Booking Question for a Dec 2026 reservation

Hi everyone. I have a Dec UY and am potentially looking to book a room for dec 2026. What would be the "safer/less risky" option as I may have to cancel the reservation (it would be way before the 31 day so that is not a worry). I have Dec 2025 points and Dec 2026 points. Should I 1.) bank the 2025 points and use them for the reservation? 2.) Use Dec 2026 points? (can I do this on-line if I have dec 2025 points still available?) Thanks for any input!

If not on this reservation, is there something else you’d use the Dec 2025 UY points?

If you bank those points, book your Dec 2026 trip with them, end up cancelling prior to 31days out, you’d still be able to use those points through 2026 up to and including the night of Nov 30, 2026 for reservations.

I don't have any plans for the 2025 points as of yet. If I bank them and use them for dec 2026 trip and I end up canceling the trip those points are still good through Nov 30, 2027 since they are banked points?

Yes, they would become December 2026 points and would expire November 30, 2027. (As you know, they couldn’t be banked again.)

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but if you book with December 2026 UY points and then later decide to bank 2025 points, I think you could have those 2025 points substituted into the reservation as long as it is the same home resort. I don't think it will allow you to do that online because the contract will be locked, but I think if you call MS, you can switch out the points - again, as long as it is the same home resort. You can't make an 11-month home resort booking and then substitute in points from a different resort later. So, I'd book using 2026 points for now, and then if you end up banking 2025 points and keeping the December trip, call MS and have the banked points substituted for 2026 points - do that more than 31 days from the start of the reservation.

The 2025 points that get banked into 2026 can be reallocated to the existing reservation as long as they are the same home resort. You don't need to call MS to do it. You just modify the reservation online without making any changes. The system will use the banked points before using any current points. If they are from a separate contract under the same membership, then you only need to check the box next to that contract when you do the modification.
