Another idea, if you have the courage to do this, is to ask a guest if they would let you see their room….maybe ask someone on the bus ride over to the resort. Or another possibility would be to just walk the grounds of the AB section and if you stumble upon a maintenance person or housekeeper that is in a room, you can just ask them if you could peak into a room (hopefully they don’t let you into an occupied room, but rather show you a room that is vacant at the time.) Good luck and enjoy your trip.

I really doubt anyone will let you see their room. But I've heard many people report that someone with guest services will let you see an empty room. That's if they have an empty room and have the time.

100acrewood, if you really need to get into your room that early, you can always book the room for one more night and tell them you'll be arriving early in the am. They have to let you in then.

What about the rooms in building 18? Is this a smoking building? Is this close to the food/bus stops/pools? Well I know there is a quite pool behind this building. I want a ground floor room but would i want a pool view? Any info or pictures of this building would be appreciated.

18 is not to far away. We were in 16 and the walk was only a couple of minutes. We had a pool view and were happy with it. The pool is fairlyt quiet, we never heard anything in the room.

I wanted to put my two cents in on Port Orleans Riverside. My self, 43, my dh 44, ds 12 and dd 10 all loved it. It was definitely at capacity (being New Jersey week when all of NJ has the week off...darn them!!!! ;) ;) yet at night as we floated in our "quiet pool", we felt as if we owned the place...our own private mansions. We enjoyed Boatwrights (get the stuffed french toast!!!!) and the food court. Though crowded, we always got a seat and the lines moved quickly getting our meals. The bike surreys are just too much fun! The gift shop is quite good as well. We stayed in Parterre Place and found it a lovely walk to the main building. I wouldn't stay in AB section, though. When we rode or walked through there I noticed a very musty, swampy smell. The Sassagoula becomes more of a bog at that end and it was unpleasant. I've noticed some saying the Disney busses weren't great, but we had no trouble at all. In fact, we waited very little either at the parks or at the resort for the bus we wanted...even with the resort being quite full. Go to POR and enjoy it. It's a slice of Disney heaven.

We will be leaving in 10 days and I am wondering what the bugs are like at POR. We need to know as my son is sensitive to bug bits.

I don't even recall seeing one bug, but I do recall seeing a CM walking around with a sprayer of some sort. We did see rabbits and one lizard. Again, though, we stayed in the mansions section. The AB section is more boggy, and possibly has bugs of the biting variety.

So glad to hear you had a nice stay. We feel the same way about the place, especially the mansion area.

I guess that people aren't as nice as I am then...or maybe I am just naive. :teeth:

Hey all you riverside junkies... Annette and I are staying there in January for a quick trip and were wondering about your experiences renting the kayaks. Fun??

Anyway, we are really looking forward to it. I am requesting Magnolia Terrace. Thoughts?

My son, DSIS & I are going to be at POR early December. (Still won't be a WL Vet :( ) We're hoping for Magnolia Terrace. Did you see the photos of the walkway leading to the gazebo? Looks like they decorate the gazebo with poinsettias at Christmas time. Can't wait!!! I'm so glad you made out O.K. through Katrina! You had many DIS-ers worried about you. Congrats too on your expectations! :goodvibes How exciting for you and your husband!

Jessica

I am so sorry to do this... but where were the pictures?? We are thinking about staying here next Dec. and I was wondering how it is decorated.

Thanks :earboy2:

I have a few pictures from our last Christmas trip. Just click the link.

Hello all! I was hoping that someone had more pictures of POR, especially of the mansions. My DH and I have decided that we really like the idea of a small intimate resort, but we haven't seen too many pictures of POR. Thanks for your help! :flower:

Which buildings in AB allow smoking? I know I read it somewhere but can't find it now. Also I see on the map 3 bus depots; is there one at the main building also?

Yes there is one at the main building, we were really closer to the east depot, but it was just as easy getting off at the main building, and when ever Bob the Piano man was there we would stop for a few minutes before going to our room.

Forgive me if this has been asked before (I am sure it has though :bitelip: ), but is Oak Manor all smoking rooms? Or is there non-smoking rooms available there too?
TIA!!! :goodvibes
