It's Summer Vacation! Let's Go! **Updated 8/9; Page 9; Last Day Posted!**

wvdislover: Once we went to the Magic Kingdom, Tink completely forgot about what she was too small to ride. She just loved everything- including her special time alone with Mom and Dad. :sunny: Tinks are fun to have in the family- they definitely keep you on your toes.

cjhinch: Thank you for reading and commenting. I'm glad you're enjoying it. My family LOVED AKL; I would highly recommend it.

KathyRN137: My kids are fairly picky eaters and found lots of good stuff at BOMA. I hope you enjoy it.

studentmom:I couldn't do it without my DH. He does a great job of juggling the house when I'm too busy with school. Congrats on your 3rd. My family wasn't complete until we had Tink.

SmithFamily2003: Thank you for posting. I will try to post a pic with our shirts, but I don't have any on the digital camera so I'll have to see if the kids have one. The first post in this thread has the directions for howto make them:

ilovepooh: Thanks, again, for reading. I'm really enjoying reliving my vacation with all of you!

Lunchtime was fast approaching so we needed to make a decision as to where we would eat. There were lots of nearby options, but none of those were going to do it. DH only had one place that he wanted to go, Cosmic Rays.

Cosmic Ray’s was the first place that we ate on our last Disney trip. It was a great place to get out of the heat of the June summer. It was also one of our few decent meals on that pre-DIS trip. So we made the trek all the way over to Cosmic Rays.

Of course, Cosmic Ray’s does not make it easy for a family to order together. The girls of course wanted chicken nuggets, while Goofy, DH and myself wanted burgers. So we had to split up. I got in line to get the girls’ food, while DH and Goofy went to get burgers.

The line for chicken was fairly short; there was only one family in front of me. It shouldn’t have taken long at all. Yeah, right.

Because this happened to become the longest line I had stood in so far at Disney World. Did a Brazilian tour group cut in front of me? Nope. Did the grills shut down? Nope. I just happened to be behind the most indecisive person on the planet.

Because all she wanted was a small salad. And Cosmic Rays doesn’t have just a side salad. You have to get a big salad- unless you get a kid’s meal. Then you can get a small salad. But, you have to get a drink. And she didn’t want a drink. I think that my head was getting ready to explode. My girls were looking at me with those big blue eyes. Telling me that they were hungry.

I scanned the area to see if the other lines were shorter. Nope. Not anymore. It really took about 5 minutes for this woman to decide to go ahead and get a kid’s meal salad with bottled water for later. She paid and took her kids up to get their food.

Alright, now I can order. “Hi! I’d like two chick…”

“Does that kid’s meal come with fries?” The woman came back to discuss. “Because really I want fries.”

“No, it comes with Mickey cheese crackers,” the CM tells her.

“Well, I don’t want Mickey crackers, if I can’t get fries I just don’t want it at all.”

Seriously. This woman who was just complaining about ‘only wanting a small salad’ now couldn’t eat it unless she got some fries. I’m pretty sure that my eyes rolled so far back into my head that I could see my brain.

“Excuse me! It’s my turn to order! Hello, Miss Size Two I only need a small salad but now let me get a huge order of fries!” (I didn’t really say this though, because I’m the kind of person who can only come up with a really great thing to say about 10 minutes after something happens.)

In reality, the CM just gave up. “Tell them I made a mistake and you need an order of fries too.”

“Thank you,” I and the 10 others who were now in the line told the CM. Not out loud, but I’m pretty sure that he knew.

So, I ordered, got our food and then went on the arduous task of finding a place for a family of 5 to eat. Which is not easy in a counter service restaurant. What I found was a table really meant for two with 5 chairs. So we sat and ate our lunch.

After our bellies were full and Tank had done her “happy robot dance” for the yummy chocolate cake, we made our way over towards Liberty Square.

On the way, we saw one of the few things that were on Goofy’s must do list- The Hall of Presidents. He had seen it on one of the Travel Channel shows and knew that he had to go.

Goofy is a very patriotic young man. He has a deep love for this country- more so than I did at this age. And I truly believe that this is because of 9-11. To say that it has shaped all of us is the understatement of all understatements. But I see something in Goofy, and other kids his age, that make him different than kids of my generation. The patriotism that engulfed our country afterwards stuck in Goofy’s heart and soul. His heroes have been real people doing important things- firefighters, police officers, and those in the armed forces. I would guess that Goofy is not all that different from other kids his age in how this affected him.

Goofy also spent quite a bit of 5th grade learning about Early American History and the Revolutionary War. He even did a great research paper on Benedict Arnold. So the whole family went to The Hall of Presidents for him. And we enjoyed it for the most part. Minnie was not overly enthused. And the catcalls for JFK confused her. “Mom, they know he’s not real don’t they?” she whispered to me.

But overall, we got our patriotic fill. Although the heckling of different presidents was not really necessary.

Then we went to up the adrenaline factor and let Tank ride her first “real” roller coaster- Big Thunder Mountain. Tank decided she wanted to ride with DH, and Goofy wants to ride alone, so Minnie and I ride together. Goofy and I try to convince Minnie to hold her hands up in the air, but she’s not having it. She does a great girly-laugh/scream through the whole ride. Tank is curled up in DH armpit.

We get off the ride and Tank yells, “I love that ride, but I had to hold on for DEAR LIFE!”

We all laughed a little more together- and soaked in the Disney magic.

We'll be sure to say hey to your new squirrel friend when we go down at the end of August! We'll let him know that you & your family miss him dearly! :rotfl2:

I keep thinking that he's going to pop up in our house, ala Christmas Vacation.

It's always funny when you see it happen to others... not so funny when it's you. ;)

Actually, it will be a great story for when Goofy starts bringing the girls home in a few years.

Another great installment!! I'm really enjoying the report and you have such a wonderful family. I LOVED the picture you posted as you were leaving AK and the collage picture was just fabulous!! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you loved BOMA. We're (all adults) scheduled to eat there for the first time on our next trip. It's my future DDiL's pick for her birthday and my oldest DS is not excited about the menu he saw on allearsnet. No matter, he chose WCC for his birthday (we're celebrating two birthdays in WDW on our next trip) and he'll just have to stick it out for her birthday. :rotfl:

Look forward to another installment!!

After we rode Big Thunder Mountain, we decided that it would be a good idea to go back to the hotel and rest before dinner. So we hopped on the train, again, and rode it to Main Street. We found the train to be a very effective way to move through the World when we were too lazy to walk.

We went back to the hotel and the kids finally got a chance to swim in the pool. It was crowded! But they loved every minute of it. Tink especially loved the zero entry pool because she could walk in and touch the bottom on her own. The kids splashed and weaved their way through the people and I took the time to sit in the shallow end and watch them. It was nice.

The kids probably could have spent the entire afternoon and evening in the pool, but we had places to go. So, after a short rest, we got ourselves dressed and ready to go.

We had to get to the Poly for our Spirit of Aloha dinner at 5:15. So we decided to hop a bus to either Epcot or MK and use the monorail to get over there. The Epcot bus came first, so we used it.

“Look at the big ball!” Tink said and pointed as we arrived at Epcot.

“It’s a sphere,” Minnie corrected.

“E-eeh!” Tink screamed back at her.

Minnie made a face and we moved them into separate corners for their own safety. And our sanity.

We finally made our way to the Poly. And I was impressed. We weaved our way through the Poly to get back to the Luau cove. We sat and waited for them to seat us and it kept getting more humid by the minute. The fact that there were tons of people crowded into a small little area didn’t help either. To pass the time, I snapped a couple of pictures of the kids:

luaukids.jpg

That was the most enthused look I was going to get from Goofy- no matter how hard I tried.

They finally herded us all to our seats and I was really excited. We were first table-almost center stage. It was a great view of the show. DH and I order Lapu Lapus to drink. Yum! The kids chow down on the pineapple bread and fresh pineapple. DH and I eat a bit of everything. It was all so good! The pineapple bread was delicious.

Everything was really good. They brought boxed kids meals with chicken nuggets and hotdogs for the girls. We all ate well. The kids were having a good time. Minnie was all about the show. She would only eat between the acts. It started sprinkling between the first and second acts, but the show still went on.

luautasha.jpg

Here’s a pic of Minnie enjoying the food.

luaulizzie-1.jpg

Tink was all about learning to hula.

luaualex.jpg

I snapped this one as proof that Goofy really enjoyed himself, when he thought no one was looking.
luaushow.jpg

Here’s one of the show. The guy on the left made Minnie giggle the entire time. He even made eye contact with her and mouthed, “I love your food.” That made her night.

They brought out the volcano dessert, which was just okay. It then started pouring down rain, so they delayed the 3rd act.

luaurain.jpg

The kids had a great time entertaining themselves during this time. They would run out in the rain, get wet, and run back to their seats. Another kid used someone’s coconut drink to catch the rain in. We all started to get a little restless after a half an hour. Finally, the rain let up and we were able to watch the rest of the show. Which was so good, I forgot to take any pictures. Sorry.

After the Luau was over, we went back to the Magic Kingdom to see Wishes and Spectromagic. There was a second showing of Spectromagic, so we decided to stay late and watch that.

We made our way over to Tomorrowland and decided to get in line for Stitch. This was our first real line of our trip. And no one was really happy about standing in it. “Can’t we just get a fastpass?” Goofy asked. So we stood in line and went on. I wasn’t that impressed, but Minnie loved it. Because Stitch is her favorite. When she got her tonsils taken out, we had to watch that movie in the hospital room. For the rest of the night she kept saying, “Oh, Cinderella your prince is here,” in her best Stitch voice while her brother and sister laughed.

We went to ride the teacups and the kids decided to ride together, so DH and I decided to see who could make the other the sickest in the teacup. The kids had a great time.

teacups.jpg

teacupsta.jpg

DH and I got off feeling a little sick to our stomachs. I wouldn’t recommend drinking a pineapple drink, eating lots of good food and then spinning yourself as fast as you can in a teacup. It’s not really a bright idea.

We rode It’s a Small World. Minnie and Tink loved it. Goofy was too cool to enjoy it. Minnie decided to interchange her Stitch impression with singing “It’s a Small World” because it annoyed her brother a little more.

We went over and rode Buzz. Great ride. DH got the high score. I was second. Goofy was third. I think that it hurt his pride a little that his mom got a higher score than him.

It was getting close to 10 and I wanted to get a spot to watch Wishes. It was really crowded, so we decided to watch it from Fantasyland. It was so beautiful. I just watched my kids watching the fireworks and welled up with tears. They were mesmerized.

We walked around for a little while longer afterwards and found ourselves some ice cream snacks since the kids didn’t really like the volcano dessert. We decided to find our place for Spectromagic. We sat at the corner where they turn to go into Liberty Square. It was a great spot. We got lots of waves from the characters. Ariel looked directly at Minnie and blew her a kiss.

After it was over, we made a slow walk back to the bus. We knew it would be crowded and figured that it was in our best interest not to rush out. We leisurely strolled out there and were one of the first people in the line for the bus. We waited for about 10 minutes before one showed up. We then had a quite bus ride back to AKL.

Next up: Our day at Blizzard Beach and Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (with pictures!)

I booked it at 180 days out. At that time, you could book it a year in advance.

Glad you're enjoying it.

I can sympathize with Cosmic Rays, I hate having to split up to order, find each other again and then tackle a table....

Your kids are way too cute!!!

OOOOHHHH I cannot wait for the BBB report for your 2 girls, I am taking my 2 nieces there in October and I hope they love it!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who cries watching my kids watch stuff at Disney! It's just so touching to see all your planning for the perfect trip for your kids come to fruition! :)

June 29th, Day 4

Today was our planned no-park day. We went to breakfast at Boma’s instead of eating pop tarts in the room. That was a tasty change of pace. We had great service again. Goofy ate pancakes like they were going out of style. I had frunch to drink. It was so good!

After breakfast, we got ready and made our way to Blizzard Beach. This would be my kids’ first trip to a water park. It was great. We found a chair to put all our stuff on and made our way to the ski lift so that we could ride the family raft ride. The girls loved going on the ski lift and looking at everything below them. It was a great way to see the entire park.

The kids loved the family raft ride, so we decided to ride it again. This time we took the stairs. Wow, that’s a lot of stairs! Finally we made our way to the top and made our way back down the fun way. The kids giggled and laughed the entire way down.

DH and the girls then went over to Tike’s Peak to play and Goofy and I went to seek out some more slides. We rode a few of the more mellow slides. Then the whole family decided to ride around in the Cross Country Creek. So we grabbed inner tubes and hopped in. This is unfortunately not a graceful moment for many people. I wasn’t any exception. I’ll spare you the details.

This happened to be DH favorite thing we did. Just floating through the creek, not doing much of anything. It took awhile, but was a great way to just chill out and relax. Most other people were taking it easy too, although a few we racing through.

After riding all the way around, the kids decided they wanted to go to the Ski-Patrol area. They rode the slides and splashed around in the pool some more. We got in the very crowded wave pool for a while and then decided that we should call it a day. The park was getting full and we needed to rest before going to Downtown Disney.

But before we left, we witnessed one of those “shocking moments” that you hear about on these boards, and I can’t keep it to myself, can I? popcorn:: It’s also a really good lesson on why you should wear water shoes- even if they aren’t cool. We had just gathered up our things and were heading out of the Tike’s Peak area when I noticed this teenage girl. She was sunbathing on a lounger, but she had the most disturbed look on her face :scared1: . She looked like her eyes were about ready to pop out of her head. In front of her was a little boy, maybe 3 at the oldest. He had decided that her chair was the perfect place to go to the bathroom. So he did, right there, on her chair. And she was paralyzed with this look of disgust that only a teenage girl can make. At that moment, I decided that water shoes were cool.

We went back to the hotel and ate lunch at Mara. It was good, nothing spectacular. DH grabbed zebra domes as his dessert. The kids all got Mickey rice krispie treats.

We hung out in the room for a while. Looked out on our balcony. No animals. The kids watched “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody.” We all took a little nap and then it was time for the girls to get ready to go to Downtown Disney.

Poor Goofy did not want to have to sit around while the girls went to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, so DH and him went and did guy things. The girls and I wished them well, and then hopped on the DTD bus. We were really early for our appointment, so we wandered around and looked in Christmas store and the toy store. The girls loved the spitting Stitch outside of the World of Disney store.

We made our way over towards the end that Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique was in so that I could take some “before” pictures of them.

beforebbb.jpg

I was really excited to take them here. I had made them appointments when they first opened because I knew how much they would love it. I went ahead and got the castle package and told the girls that the dress would also be their Halloween costumes. They were fine with that.

When we went into the World of Disney store we were greeted to a huge crowd of little girls and their families. We waited in line to check-in where we received our royal pager and brochures for the girls to decide how they were going to get their hair done. However, there was a little snafu. Although they had Minnie’s name for a reservation, they did not have her name printed out for a brochure. This should have been a sign.

There were tons of people peeking in the boutique. Lots of parents who wanted to get their girls in as walk ups, but they weren’t taking any. It was a zoo.

We wandered around the World of Disney store and looked for a dress for Tink’s American Girl doll so she could dress up too. Tink also found some pirate Mickey ears that she had to have and Minnie found a stuffed Stitch that she wanted. Of course, the royal pager went off before I had a chance to pay, but they told me that I could just bring it with me and pay for it when I paid for everything else.

They introduced the girls to their fairy godmothers for the afternoon and ushered them back into the dressing room. One of the fairy godmothers asked if they were both supposed to have Belle dresses. No, Tink has Belle, Minnie has Ariel. So they grab Minnie’s dress and go and find an Ariel dress for her. They told Minnie that they had forgotten some pixie dust and they would bring back her dress in a minute.

In the meantime, they opened Tink’s dress. She jumped and clapped over her dress. We went ahead and got her dressed so that her fairy godmother could start. Minnie and I sat and waited for them to return with the correct dress. Finally, they did and Minnie was delighted.

The girls had a ton of fun with their makeovers, and I took a lot of pictures so I’ll let them tell the story for me.

We paid and then made our way to the photo shoot. DH and Goofy met up with us here. The girls loved this as well. A pretty big crowd of made over princesses showed up while the girls were finishing up.

The girls were starting to get a little tired and so we decided to eat dinner at McDonalds. Don’t all princesses eat there? We ate. It was, well, as good as McDonalds can be.

Tink was really grouchy, Minnie was sleepy and Goofy wanted to go shopping. So, DH decided to take the princesses back to the hotel while Goofy and I shopped a little. We went to the Lego store so Goofy could check out the prices on the Star Wars Legos and make sure that there wasn’t anything that he was missing. He examined the box for the Death Star Legos and tried to educate me in Star Wars- which is kind of a hopeless cause.

He didn’t find anything he didn’t have (other than the Death Star- which was way too much money), so I mentioned that they had a Star Wars section at Once Upon a Toy. We made our way down there and looked at the Star Wars toys. Goofy found two sets of figures that he didn’t have and he spent a lot of time debating whether he should spend his money on it. Finally he decided to get both, after I prodded him a bit.

We walked out and he put his arm around my waist and gave me a squeeze. We smiled and talked about lots of things, including what he had been doing while the girls and I were at BBB. They had gone to Disney Quest. He said it was really cool, but they didn’t have enough time to do much.

We decided that we had better make our way back to the hotel. He spent most of the bus ride looking at his new Star Wars figures. I spent my time looking at what a neat kid I had.

Next up: Breakfast with the Princesses (and not just my own)

I love your TR!!! What a great trip!

As for your squirrel story, I recently had a similar encounter with a group of birds at the beach. I was attacked! Let's just say I was forced to surrender my sandwich, lol.

Also, your daughters a beautiful!! I love the BBB!! I wish they had one for older princesses.... princess:

After reading about how much your girls loved getting made over at the boutique, I'm really thinking I should make an appointment for the little sister to get one on our trip in August... as a surprise!

So that night when I looked out on the savannah, I did not see any giraffes or ostriches. I could hear people talking so I turned to see where the noise was coming from. One of the other guests across from us had all drapes pulled all the way open and all their lights on. She was walking around with no clothes on. Yup, you read right. I saw a naked woman from my balcony. It was not quite what I was expecting to see. :rolleyes1

At this moment, my kids started to bust out on the balcony to see some animals. I push them back in; tell them the animals are sleeping and so should we. I tell DH what I saw from the balcony and so he discretely makes his way out there. He comes back in, disappointed. “All I saw was a fat hairy guy without his shirt on,” he pouts to me.

Sorry, hun. There’s always tomorrow. ;)

I'll have to let my DH know...he would love to see the 'wildlife' off the balcony...

Nice job on the trippie! :thumbsup2

I love the princess makeover! The pictures are awesome! I'm going to tell my SIL to do that for my neice. Thanks for the great TR. :thumbsup2

I am loving your TR. Your family is very lovely. I only wish I had girls to take to the botique. I have boys 18 and 14. Enjoy your time with them. I always cry with my family too when we are experiencing the Disney magic!
