How cool is that, Laura? Go DVC! I found a different dining # posted elsewhere on the site and was able to get someone so quickly she cut off the WELCOME MESSAGE. Seriously amazing. My Mom had been trying to get one for the last three and a half hours but I was able to swoop in and get her one in 10 minutes. I think she is so happy she hasn't processed how unfair this is and I doubt she will ever do this again, she will always make me... :lmao: Its not the day they want and it is very early but she is stoked. :)

That was cool, and yes you will be stuck doing that from now on!

I've never been a Delta fan, but they just might win me over!

That 4 hour flight delay when I was returning from St. Louis......... Delta certainly couldn't control the violent weather and their staff was fabulous in keeping calm and order. :thumbsup2

Delta sent me an email apologizing for my inconvenience August 16th and crediting 2,500 bonus miles to my Skymiles account. I'm impressed and I accept their apology (although they really didn't owe me one!) :flower3:

Nice Customer Service! :goodvibes

Good morning Js & Ks! :goodvibes

Elin, enjoy your time off! I'm off this entire week too -- resting up for WDW!! :woohoo:

I just got reservations for Christmas Eve at Be Our Guest restaurant (5:10pm) for my family!!!! :yay:

I LOVE my DVC!!! Called promptly at 9 and got right through! :cloud9:

:banana: How fantastic!!! Can't wait to see those photos.

My news is our entire WDW trip is paid off and my surprises for DH are all in place and paid for. I still don't know what he has planned or where we are going on October 5th. However I noticed he added passports to our list of things to take. With him that may be a fake out he is doing or we could be really leaving the country. :dance3:

Ann

Good news re paying off your WDW trip. Are you willing to share the surprises you have planned for Tim?

I can't imagine what Tim has planned with passports! Is there a way to check if there are any Disney cruises leaving on Oct. 5?

I knew it was a tough day for you, just didn't know how bad! Your traffic jam was most likely caused by the home games for both the Braves and the Falcons!!

We never got the bad weather. Until we got home. The drive was just fine until we got within 15 minutes of home and there was a horrific accident on 95 that had us sitting there in traffic in the rain for over an hour. We finally got home at 2:00 a.m. After having been up for over 23 hours and doing all that traveling I slept for 8 straight hours (those of you who know me understand what a big deal that is!).

But, I am home and ready to have 2 weeks of teaching-free time! :yay:

Hope you enjoy your teaching-free time! :goodvibes

Thanks Ann! All the events of the last month really took it out of me. I don't see things slowing down much, but I hope there will be much less of an emotional component. NOW if we have to cancel yet another WDW trip, THAT will be heartbreaking!

And lady, with a menu like that you need to come over to the What's for Dinner thread! There's a lot of really nice ladies on there who share menus and recipes. Brandi and PIO share lots of great food porn and even Kim has been known to share some, but don't tell her DH! I want that crab stuffed mushrooms recipe!

Sorry Alison, somehow I missed this post last night when I was catching up. Thank you for the invite, I will find the thread and join in, it sounds like fun.
I cook a lot and enjoy trying new things. I will see you get my stuffed mushroom recipe.
Hope to hear soon how Fran's doctors appointment went today. Been thinking about you two and saying some extra prayers.

Speaking of trying new things:

Brandi & Wendy you both talked awhile back about fixing shrimp and grits or was it rice. I would love to have your recipes. You can PM them if you don't mind sharing. Thank you

Ann

That would be awesome

Ann, passports on the list open up so many possibilities! Very exciting :)

It sure does, but my DH is a practical joker at time. So this may be just to throw me off. No matter what it is we will have a great time and the fact he has planned and schedule this it is awesome

....:scratchin hey, is my brother and his family at WDW? :confused3 I gotta txt him to find out.....

Have you heard anything or are you going to keep us waiting and wondering?????????

Good news re paying off your WDW trip. Are you willing to share the surprises you have planned for Tim?

I have booked him on the Epcot DiveQuest at the Living Seas. He has no idea so it will be a complete surprise. I think he will go completly bonkers! After he is done we are going to La Cava for drinks and tapas. Or at least that is the plan.

I just check on the Disney cruises and interesting. The Magic leaves October 6th from Galveston on a western Carbbean 7 day. The Dream leaves October 7 on a 4 night Bahamas cruise.

OK................................................................ that is just too much information for me. My hands are shaking typing this. Could he have booked a Disney cruise?

Ann,

Here's a link to the first page, but don't feel like you have to read all 31 pages...you could be there all day. People just post their recipes with or without pictures. We also talk about what we're going to make that night/week, holidays etc. And a whole bunch of other stuff, just like here. Fun bunch!

As far as the Doctor, it was sort of good news. He gave her something to help the Arthritis, but if you think of pain killers, this would be like giving tylenol with coedine to someone who usually takes morphine for their pain. It's a very old Arthritis drug and is effective for moderate arthritis, but not severe like she has. It is better than nothing though.

She definitely can't have her normal drug until all the wounds have healed up. The doctor's think that the set backs she had in healing were because she took the drug in June. On the good side, she was told that she can now take showers without having to wrap her leg in Saran Wrap. Just take the dressing off, shower and then I redress the wound after the shower. THIS IS A BIG DEAL!

Who cares? You're off the pole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:woohoo::yay::woohoo: Kimmar must be out celebrating!!!!! :dance3:

Kimmar - keep the peace with the Tag Fairy, wouldja?!! :rolleyes1

That does make a bad situation a little bit nicer!

Funny thing is, I was not in the least upset -- just rolled with it. I'd rather be on the ground in a building then in a plane on the tarmac or up in the air during violent storms! :scared:

ATL is my home airport, but most of the passengers on that flight had connections in Atlanta and it really messed up their schedules. The ground crew was amazing in getting everyone rebooked and into hotels for the night, if needed. :worship: The email apology was very nice, but the bonus Skymiles went above and beyond and really earned Delta brownie points with me!! :thumbsup2

Wow! Unusual for them :rotfl: usually Delta has not so great customer service.
One time I flew into Ft Lauderdale, and our luggage somehow got on the next flight. We landed close to midnight, and they shut down their luggage delivery at 1am. So they told me my luggage would be delivered first thing In the morning -rush, we were only at hotel over night due to lateness of flight before we continued on. Our luggage didn't arrive till 5pm :scared1: hardly what I call a rush delivery for first thing in the morning. We had nothing, not even pjs to sleep in. And we had to wait at hotel till 5pm for luggage, and pay for late check out. Delta did nothing for us. And basically didn't care

Ann thanks! We got a couple of beach days in, got mom settled, moved, etc. tomorrow is our last day here, early Wednesday we hit the road at 6:00 am for WDW :goodvibes. ETA 9:00 check in  at AKL. Planning on a TL day.

On the bright side,
We're used to east coast time now!! Arriving directly in WDW. It always takes a few days to adjust so glad we are now! Those first few mornings are tough!

First of all, how nice to have the vacation paid off (your portion, at least!). And secondly... it is sounding more and more like a cruise to me too. You must be so excited to have your husband go to such lengths to plan the perfect anniversary trip for you.

Good morning, Js & Ks! :sunny:

sheesh... I take one day off the boards and Kim gets off the pole!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

Ann

Ingredients
• 2 cups water
• 1 (14-ounce) can chicken broth
• 3/4 cup half-and-half
• 3/4 teaspoon salt
• 1 cup regular grits
• 3/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
• 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce
• 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
• 3 bacon slices
• 1 pound medium-size shrimp, peeled and deveined
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/8 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup sliced mushrooms
• 1/2 cup chopped green onions
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1/2 cup low-sodium, fat-free chicken broth
• 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
• 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
• Lemon wedges
Preparation
1. Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil in a medium saucepan; gradually whisk in grits. Reduce heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, 10 minutes or until thickened. Add Cheddar cheese and next 4 ingredients. Keep warm.
2. Cook bacon in a large skillet until crisp; remove bacon, and drain on paper towels, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings in skillet. Crumble bacon, and set aside.
3. Sprinkle shrimp with pepper and salt; dredge in flour.
4. Sauté mushrooms in hot drippings in skillet 5 minutes or until tender. Add green onions, and sauté 2 minutes. Add shrimp and garlic, and sauté 2 minutes or until shrimp are lightly brown. Stir in chicken broth, lemon juice, and hot sauce, and cook 2 more minutes, stirring to loosen particles from bottom of skillet.
5. Serve shrimp mixture over hot cheese grits. Top with crumbled bacon; serve with lemon wedges.
