It's kind of fun to do the impossible - Disney with a 1 month old *new 2/13/15*

"The great dancing disaster of 1973 which is why you no longer see Danny the Dancing Dog roaming the parks anymore"

:lmao:

Thank you for that laugh!

Dole whips are a perfectly reasonable dinner when you have a Dessert party later! Hot cocoa, unlimited desserts, and Tinkerbell flying over your head? Yeah, it sounds worth the money!

So jealous you guys got to see Tink fly during your dessert party! The last time I saw her fly was when I went to Disneyland and that was several years ago. Glad you guys enjoyed it though-looked like a pretty fulfilling Magic Kingdom day!

Looks like the rest and A/C was good for you guys

I agree a dole whip does count as a healthy meal :thumbsup2

The break was good and needed since we had been going since before the park opened. This was actually the only day we did the traditional park-break-park but we tried to go a bit easy each day whether they were 1/2 days or whatever.

I mean, compared to fried food or something a Dole Whip really isn't that bad, right? ;)

Jungle Cruise is so fun, it must of been nice to have a new skipper.

Just reading this report and knowing you had a baby with you makes me tired :faint: but you guys seemed to handle it awesome.

I was a little unsure at first - I mean, what if she was really just learning and it didn't flow well and took away from the cruise, but it worked our really well and I like watching the other skippers in the boat react (or not) to the different jokes

Having the 3 kids was tiring but Emma on her own wasn't really that bad - we did have to plan a bit just as to when we could take the carrier on things when we had to get her out, stuff like that. But overall not too bad ... and really, just about any trip to Disney is tiring :rotfl:

I know what you mean about the carpets, this past weekend we went to a park called Santa's Village and they had a sleigh ride that my kids were referring to as "The Dumbo ride" :lmao: It did the same thing as Dumbo but instead you were flying in sleighs.

I did the dessert party last year and thought it was nice to (this was when you had to book 60 days out let me tell you Dis boards came in handy then)

Seeing Tinkerbell so close is awesome, and then watching Wishes while you have dessert, c'mon can't get better than that. :goodvibes

Yeah, guess Dumbo is the most well known, but you have the carpets, and the Astro Orbiter, and the Triceratops Spins in AK ... definitely get some use out of that type of attraction

I had read mixed things about the dessert party but figured even if the dessert part wasn't great, just having a reserved area would be worth it for us this trip - but we were pretty happy overall with the whole thing - other than wishing our table was a little bigger

Yeah, I kinda knew we would get to see Tink pretty well but turned out even better than we thought. :thumbsup2 and yeah, muching on some sweets and watching Wishes with an unobstructed view with your kids is pretty darn nice!

Dole Whips for dinner is perfectly acceptable!

I'm glad you all enjoyed the dessert party and that it was worth it! Love the gif of Tinkerbell flying :)

Gotta love vacation where you can have a Dole Whip for dinner followed by a dessert party! :goodvibes

We definitely thought it was worth it - especially with our situation with the baby, but even beyond it we really enjoyed it and thought it was something fun and different to do that didn't break the bank

Awwww Olivia seems pretty darn proud of her wings.

Wow, I can't even remember the last time I boarded the WDW railroad. I'd almost think that I'd do it, if for no other reason, to avoid walking.

Peter enjoyed getting his wings too - but every picture I tried to take of him Olivia was photobombing with her wings :lmao:

We love doing the railroad at least once as it is such a classic and gives a good view of the entire park - including some scenes you can only see from the railroad

Oooh that's pretty cool getting an "In Training" Skipper. A little scary because, you know, new driver and all, but cool nonetheless.

I kept trying to see if that was Skipper Jen next to Olivia. Hard to tell from the angle though. I'll just wait for your other video to come back since I'm sure you set up multiple cameras for this shoot. popcorn::

That's true - fortunately she seemed to keep us on course and her shouts of "I've got a gun! I've got a gun!" seemed to scare off some of the more dangerous animals.

oh, definitely - it was like when Jerry was doing his bootleg filming and had mutliple cameras set up to fully capture the moment ... I think it is on my other SD card though, so will be a slight delay ;)

I do like being on that side for Tink's flight. It's pretty cool to see that close.

I actually watched Hallowishes from that location, and I am always interested in a different view of Wishes, so I may well try this some time. As long as it doesn't get too expensive.

I could see that being a good spot for Hallowishes as parts of that really have a wide range for where the fireworks go off from.

I think you would enjoy the dessert party - lots of people attending seemed rather friendly so I am sure you would make new friends and while not cheap it isn't as expensive as some other "extras" there are at Disney and is definitely something different and fun to try at least once :goodvibes

I aim to please my readers ... glad you got a laugh out of it

The dessert party was pretty darn fun and gave a unique view to wishes and the kids got to go on a sugar high (and then sugar crash) and got a pretty decent view of the fireworks, etc. - so it was a definite :thumbsup2 from us

It was funny though as after the actual Tink flew Peter though ever bright light (i.e., all the fireworks) that were near the castle were also Tink so he kept shouting "There's Tinkah Bell!" I was glad we got a good view of it and I captured it at least semi-decently via camera/video

While not a fan of the dole whip, it does have ice cream. And while on vacation, ice cream can serve as breakfast, lunch or dessert.

Aladdin is much like the one at AK with the dinosaurs...a rip off of Dumbo. But you need something for the little ones. And it is always funny to see a parent get spit on by the camel. :lmao::lmao::lmao: Sorry Phil.

That was nice of the people on POTC to take a family picture. :goodvibes

Like you, I've read pros and cons of the Dessert Party. Unfortunatley, I've never been able to get an ADR for it. :( But after reading your review and seeing your pictures, I will continue to try.

Great report so far.
We're getting ready to take our grandkids (ages 3 and 4) to DL for Halloween and I've enjoyed reading how your kids react to things.

I'd already pretty much ruled out PoTC and Haunted Mansion Holiday plus IASW is closed for refurb (which are big losses for that park). but seeing Peter's reaction to Pirates just re-confirmed that decision for me.

quick question: did Peter and Olivia boycott the stoller for the most part at the MK? I'm trying to decide on renting just 1 single at the park. (which is all they have in DL - no doubles)

I'm still catching up on your beginning installments - but did any of the kids ride Test Track? Reason I'm asking: I want to take them on Radiator Springs - my grandson loves McQueen and is exactly 40" but after watching a few youtube videos of parents recording their 3 yr olds, I'm not so sure!!:lmao:

I fully support your "Ice cream serving as a meal" concept. By the way, I think Wednesday was national "eat ice cream for dinner day" so I hope you participated ;)

The really funny part was Olivia did not believe me that I got "spit" on so for half the ride time I was trying to convince her that it really happened :rotfl:

Very nice to get the family picture - though I wish Olivia had her eyes open more

I think you would really like the dessert party. Many of the other families that were there were very friendly and it just had a good vibe to it (at least the night we went). It is an extra cost so not sure how often we will do it but I think it is definitely worth it to try it at least once :goodvibes

:welcome: thanks for joining! And hope you have a great trip! We haven't fully done halloween at Disney yet as the kids don't seem into scary things yet and don't like the villians at all so I don't think we would fully get everything out of it - hopefully in the future though :thumbsup2

Haven't gotten to that day yet but we did ride the Haunted Mansion our 2nd MK day and it was their second time and Olivia did much better. Peter was a little scared though. We tried to make it more that it was just silly and not scary and that seemed to help. In some ways I can see Pirates being scarier with the noise and gun shots and fire and stuff.

quick question: did Peter and Olivia boycott the stoller for the most part at the MK? I'm trying to decide on renting just 1 single at the park. (which is all they have in DL - no doubles)

So at times they did boycot the stroller but then at other times they really wanted in. So there were times that Judi was wearing Emma and both kids were walking so we had not kids in the stroller and then other times we had all three

Peter, more than Olivia, protested more and really wanted me to carry him on my shoulders so we probably looked silly at times with me carrying him on my shoulders and pushing a stroller than could fit 3 but had no kids actually in it :lmao:

I would suggest getting some sort of stroller as I bet there will be times at least one of them wants to rest and even if they don't want to go in it you can put your "stuff" in and carry them

I'm still catching up on your beginning installments - but did any of the kids ride Test Track? So, I am probably a bad DISer in that none of us have ever been on Test Track. I know. We just never have been able to get a fast pass for it as Soarin' was always a priority - so in the old days we would get the FP- for that and by the time it was up they were out of them for TT and then last time, with the tiering we could only get Soarin or TT (though, now they have gotten rid of the tiering).

From reading other TR's where they went on Radiator Springs I know that kids a little older than yours enjoyed it but that it does get pretty fast so probably depends on your kids and how they do with it. Sorry to not be more help with that one :(

I forgot all about the train going through Splash!!! We have got to make time for the train next time, as my boys love trains.

Dole whips for dinner? YOLO! Why not?

Pirates is one of my favorites!!!! And the boys' fav!

Dessert party??!! How yum! Wish we could fit that in one trip.

Great shot of Tink flying over! I know the kids enjoyed that!

Dole whips - yum!! Your "dinner" reminds me of our former Friday night dinners. There was an ice cream place near us that had a smorgasbord of toppings. So you would get your ice cream in the bowl and then help yourself to about 25 different toppings. We used to go there on Friday nights, but we'd skip dinner so we had enough room for our ice cream sundaes. And it was my mom's idea.:rotfl2:

We love the train as it is just classic Disney to us - I am sure your boys would love it ... and it goes all around the park and you get to see things from different angles which I think is cool

Dole Whips for dinner might be the best use of YOLO ever ... also would have been perfect for Treat Yo Self day

I love pirates - another Disney classic ... and to think the original plan was to never even have it at Disney World! Dessert party was fun and the kids enjoyed it ... I mean, basically we were forcing a sugar high on them and then having them watch fireworks. Not to bad for a kid I'd say ;)

Thanks! yeah, the kids loved Tink - though I think I made such a big deal out of it that Peter started to think and flash of light near the castle was Tink :rotfl:

That sounds like a great dinner! I mean, gotta get your money's worth! :lmao::goodvibes

See, I have never ridden the railroad. We always say we need to do it and then don't. Need to get it done.

I promise to watch the video later. Unfortunately right now I can't get the flash player to download properly and blah blah blah. New computer problems.

Dole whips for dinner sounds like something Marie would be down with ;) Though I'd just get ice cream.

I'm still down for desserts and someday Marie and I will do the party. Sitting down and eating desserts while watching Wishes seems like it's worth it to me.

Great pictures and video, like usual.

But also, what a great day overall. You guys with your accomplishing things and eating desserts and having a good time.

My husband shares your MK tastes in attractions. His favorites are HM and Jungle Cruise, as well.
I have had so-so experiences with CMs earning their ears on attractions that had scripts, but it sounds like the one working your Jungle Cruise experience was very good.

Dole Whips for dinner...that is awesome. I love how that's totally acceptable in Disney. And, in your defense, you all had eaten two bigger meals previously in the day.

The dessert party has always sounded like something good to do if you want to skip the Main St madness. Which, with 3 kids...in August, I could definitely see you wanting to do.:rotfl2:

Overall, your MK day seemed great. You got a good deal accomplished, and staying at CR looked like it really helped with taking a break and getting to/from your room quickly.
I especially enjoyed your description if walking into Adventureland. You nailed it. The drums and plants changing really do set up the land perfectly and make you excited about going into that area.:thumbsup2

The Railroad is a great thing if you want something that you can take it easy on and just take in the scene that is Magic Kingdom a bit ... plus you can take it only part of the way around to get to other lands as well

Best of luck with the new Computer - I think I had seen you got Windows 8 - my latest had that I find I spend most of the time in "classic" mode as it is really designed for portable devices

I think you both would love the Dessert Party - great place to chill and get some desserts and watch some Wishes, you know, no big deal ;)

Thanks! With having the extra day added to the trip - which we knew we would do at MK - definitely helped us not feel like we had to cram everything in to this day. We would get on a number of other attractions on Friday.

Your husband sounds like a great guy! ;)

yeah, i must admit I was a bit nervous when I realized it was a skipper-in-training and at times you could tell she wasn't as smooth/comfortable, but overall she was quite good and at least as good as some experienced skippers I have had

Actually, and not that it totally justified it, but I think part of the reason we weren't up for a regular "dinner" was due to the 2 big meals we had and when we settled on just getting a snack, and realized we hadn't had Dole Whips yet, the solution became quite obvious

That's exactly why I booked the dessert party. Figured it would be something new for us this trip and even if we hated the desserts, etc. at least we would have somewhere we could see the fireworks that wasn't super crazy. The fact we liked the desserts and stuff was an added bonus :goodvibes

Thanks! We knew since this was a day we had stuff from beginnig to end we had to take a break so it worked out great and we got a lot done between breakfast and lunch and the mine train and Anna and Elsa and some of the Adventureland stuff - we were pretty happy.

I don't see a problem with Dole Whips for dinner! Especially when you're trying to save room for the Dessert Party.

That was an awesome video of Tinkerbell! One of the best I've ever seen! The Dessert Party seems to be a great location for Wishes photos.

Just saw in your comments - none of you have ever been on Test Track?! :confused3 Not sure how that happened, but clearly you need to go back and fix that omission! ::yes::

Nice skipper-in-training on your Jungle Cruise. :duck: And, the nice thing is that if she were to forget a joke, you were right there to help her out. :rotfl2: She even thanked you! :worship:

Anyway, totally in favor of Dole Whips for dinner. :thumbsup2 Of course, I come from a family where everyone can justify any sort of food as healthy. Naturally, the snacks I eat at work are healthy, due to the dark chocolate, full of antioxidants and such. ;) My brother used to point out the health benefits of Mountain Dew - first ingredient of orange juice. My favorite is my uncle's "food groups": square, round, and triangle - which makes pizza the perfect food that fits all groups. :lmao: And, naturally, when you follow that Dole Whip with a dessert party spread, it only adds to the health benefits. :thumbsup2

Good idea to do the dessert party so that you didn't have to camp out on Main Street to see Wishes. We did the party once back in 2010 (when Wishes had special glasses for "Summer Nightastic") - cool way to enjoy the evening MK festivities. pixiedust:

Sounds like you guys had a great MK day! :goodvibes

Absolutely! :thumbsup2

Thank you! That was one thing I was really eager to capture and overall I am glad with how it came out - definitely a view of it unique to that location!

I think because Judi really don't seem super keen on doing it (I mean, she would do it but just not a priority for her) and, at least in our mind/our experience, it has always come down to that or Soarin' as in the days of FP- we would get Soarin' FP first and then by the time we did that TT would be out of FP- and we have never seen a line less than 50 mins for it. Then this last trip, with tiering we could only get FP+ for one or the other, and, again, Soarin' won out. Now that they got rid of tiering I am hopeful we can make it next trip, but we shall see.

Plus we generally go during F&WF so we spend more of our time in World Showcase anyway :rotfl:

Nice skipper-in-training on your Jungle Cruise. :duck: And, the nice thing is that if she were to forget a joke, you were right there to help her out. :rotfl2: She even thanked you! :worship:

Well, I hope she saw it as "helping" at least :lmao:

At the very least she didn't really get flustered by me stealing her thunder so if anything I was helping to train her and deal with hecklers ;)

I like the "shape" method of the food groups, makes it much easier and does qualify pizza as the perfect food ... which my kids would love as they could eat that every day

The whole thing reminded me of the Bill Cosby bit about feeding his kids chocolate cake in the morning and justifying it because it has milk and eggs in it which are nutritious ... until, of course, the kids are singing "Dad is great ... he gives us chocolate cake!" and his wife comes down none too pleased :rotfl:

That is exactly why I ultimately decided to do the dessert party - plus I did want to try it at least once and figured this was a good excuse to do it! That's cool that you got the special glasses, etc. :thumbsup2

We did have a great day ... quantity-wise we didn't get to a ton of things but I think quality-wise (two castles, A&E, Mine Train, Dessert Party, etc.) we ticked a bunch of boxes and still had another MK day :goodvibes

The Great Dancing Disaster of 1973.... awesome! :rotfl: I can't wait until she tells her friends that story! LOLOL. And I may have to start telling people that's why *I* don't dance. Ha.

Great pic on Pirates, even if Olivia was in the process of blinking! I love when people offer to take pics.

What a fantastic video of Tink!! I don't think I've ever seen anyone capture a good image of that. Nicely done!!

I love the idea of the dessert party... glad you enjoyed it! I've read some less-than-stellar reviews, but even mediocre desserts get my seal of approval. Says the girl eating Fudge Stripe cookies for breakfast ;) Glad your experience was better than what I've read!

Catching up again :cool1:

I love the commentary on the It's a Small World characters. Red hair and a black beard. LOL. We find it interesting that more than a good handful of the characters in there look a lot like Michael Jackson. :stir:

I love the zoomed in shots of the various landmarks from you balcony. That's just too cool!

Dole Whips for dinner sounds awesome! And free ice cream makes it even better!!!! Healthy or not, who cares!!! It's vacation :cool1:

We've never done the Dessert Party before. The treats look delicious! A perfect complement to your dinner. :hippie:

You sure packed a LOT of fun stuff in Day 3. Awesome!!!! :worship:

Well, you wouldn't want to suffer the same fate as Danny the Dancing Dog, now would you? :rotfl:

Thank you - I thought it was a rather good picture - just wish Olivia wasn't mid blink. Oh well

Thank you! That was one I was really trying to spot and make sure I got. I did capture her from the beginning of the flight but came out a bit out of focus to start - so glad that it came within focus towards the end.

I definitely had read mixed reviews - but overall we were pretty happy with the desserts (again, not amazing, but certainly acceptable and felt they kept the area pretty well stocked) and the location was great ... definitely a "recommend" to do at least once :thumbsup2

Thanks! It was fun to "see what I could see" - did that a bit as well to the other monorail resorts

Exactly! Ice Cream for dinner totally works at Disney. Plus, instead of calories, all Disney food contains wishes and pixie dust anyway ;)

I think we got a lot done this day of the "must dos" and new stuff (Mine Train, eating in CRT, A&E meet, etc.). Definitely felt accomplished without feeling like we pushed ourselves too much
