It's kind of fun to do the impossible - Disney with a 1 month old *new 2/13/15*

Okay, I have to mention how random it is that I just got a notification that you commented on my TR as I am commenting on yours!! :lmao:

I was so behind, I had only read through your beach day, but now I'm all caught up and hopefully can stay caught up and have something productive to contribute to the conversation next time. lol But I have to say I am so impressed with how much y'all did on arrival day. :thumbsup2 And the Contemporary rooms look much larger than I would have imagined, although I'm sure with 5 people occupying it, it felt small.

Really enjoying everything so far! It seems like y'all were having a great time. And how nice that your first DIS meet was with Lauren - I have been hoping to meet up with her for years now. She is always there, yet our trips have never overlapped! :rotfl: Very nice that y'all were able to enjoy the lounge and fireworks together.

First I want to thank you for the recipe. I am soooooo looking forward to trying it. There goes my diet LOL!!!!

Honestly I think you could have saved a fortune and just rode the monorail :rotfl2:

OH my the Poly!!!! So sad!!! I am so glad we got the chance to see it when we did. Ohana's food looke YUMMY!!! We went to the Luau and if the noddles are the same they were assume!!! I love the drinks! How cool to drink out of a pineapple!

Your DIS meet look fun! I bet Aria had a lot of fun with Peter and Olivia. I bet she was all over Emma. Little girls just seem to have a mother instinct early on and love babies.

I can not wait to see how Olivia enjoys her next day!

Hehe that gif of Peter on the monorail is so cute. The monorail is a pretty awesome thing, you have to admit!
Dinner at 'Ohana sounds pretty good, too bad about all the construction in the Poly though. But yes, can't wait to see it when it's done.
How awesome that you got to have a Dismeet and a great fireworks spot! Sounds like a great ending to the day!

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

I love Ohana, but I will also miss the salad and chicken.

It's always good to have a back-up plan! Who knows?! Coconut races could become a new olympic sport!

You always remember your first.....dismeet! Glad you had a good one.

Yeah - we still enjoyed 'Ohana, and the meats were the best we have ever had - but definitely missed some of the old menu

That's true! We could see Olivia on a box of Wheaties someday :rotfl:

And if I ever do forget my first .... DISmeet - I'll have this trip report to remind me.

Geez Phil, don't you know that the monorail is not a ride but simply a mode of transportation? Yeah, I can't say that with a straight face.

Yeah, that's one of the pitfalls of visiting in the "off season"... All the walls. So not pretty.

I think Peter could have lived with only riding the Monorail and the railroad ... especially since he was too small for the rides he really wanted like Expedition Everest and the Mine Train

Well, those walls at Poly are going to be there through the "off season" and the "on season" and probably the next "off season" ... though that is true that in the off season more things are down for maintenance and stuff. Usually it seems like Disney tries to dress up the construction walls some but that Grand Ceremonial house just feels like a strip mall doctors office or something now as you come in and are faced right with the walls.

Drinking directly from a fruit should be on everybody's must do list.

Good on Olivia's future career as I'm pretty sure I would absolutely suck at coconut racing. That does not look easy.

YAY for your first DISmeet. Haha, yeah I can see that request being a little awkward, but it's DISboards so it's all good.

We'll we drunken from fruit before, but that was back in college and involved a watermelon and a bottle of vodka ... this was much more civilized :goodvibes

She definitely took the coconut races seriously ... and an added bonus was that she made friends with one of her competitors and they had to say goodbye to each other at the end of the night, was very cute.

It was definitely all good ... and we did have the DISmeet in Hershey to get Judi a bit prepared for things, but this was the first time actually in Disney World and you just never know how things will go the first time you meet anyone - but this worked out great!

Mmm desserts to start things out. That's the way to do things. I don't even care if they're not Disney, they both look great.

I'm sure that competition is great for diners ;)

The sad thing is the creme brulee French Toast wasn't even dessert - that was part of the main meal :rotfl2:

Sounds like Sanaa was a good meal, but for Marie and I a bit too adventerous. I'd eat Olivia's pizza :p

Okay the story of Peter on the monorail is adorable.

And pool time is always a good idea, even if the pool doesn't look to be all that special.

There are definitely things less adventurous - I mean the bread service is just different types of bread and dip - but the menu is more focussed on those flavors and types of food than other options that might have some more balance to them so I can see Sanaa not appealing to everyone.

Peter just loves trains and stuff so it was a lot of fun for him. That time gave Judi a bit of a break too which was good. And the pool was definitely still fun ... compared to an average hotels it would score really well, just think Disney had better options elsewhere

Olivia can just be a coconut racer on the side of the ballerina-mom-veterinarian plan.

Poor Judi not liking steak or pork. Especially cause that pork is delicious.

Yay for awesome Dismeets and even more awesome fireworks views!

That's true - she would need something to do on the weekends. Yeah, Judi not eating beef or pork does add challenges to meal planning at home, but the fact she does lamb and other game meats helps some. The pork was really good - that and the steak definitely tasted better to me than past trips which I was glad about

Definitely was a good start - good company and then drinks and fireworks which I think made it a little lower key which was good.

Awww, monorail loop! That's so cute that he loved it that much.

We have fond memories of the BLT pool. My nephew insisted on going down the slide, and didn't want to listen. So he goes up to the top (he was 3 1/2) with my brother, sat straight up instead of laid down, ended up turning backwards on the slide, and skipped across the water on his life vest like a skipping stone. Then the child was mad at me for not catching him! :lmao:

Peter and trains are a very close relationship - he would have been happy stying on even longer!

I could totally see something similar happening with Peter if he went on the slide - just no way I could be at top with him and then at the bottom to catch him. Unfortunately we never got back to the pool the rest of the trip :(

It's always great to drink out of a pineapple. I mean, why else do you get a lapu lapu, right?

Interesting that they didn't give you the bread. Your "cousin" that brings you to your seat is supposed to grab it on the way. I'm going to agree that it was an oversight too.

Yeah, I was gonna say you had a big food day! I don't know how you did it.

That bread pudding is the entire reason to go there.

Hahaha, first time DISmeets are a bit awkward! They get easier from that moment out.

Well, I enjoyed the drink in the pineapple as well - but yeah, I am sure they sell 90% of them because they are in the pineapple

It was just kinda funny that we were literally the table next to where they pick up the bread and they didn't do it right away - actually, that might be why they forgot vs. having to go past the pickup area to get to the table

yeah - the bread pudding is a big draw ... though knowing we can get it at Kona as well makes me think we will alternate the two for upcoming trips

I am glad we had done a bunch of planning for this first DISmeet which made it a bit easier ... I am sure one does get a bit more comfortable with them as they go along.

Great update, Phil.

I love the little clip of Peter riding the monorail...he is having so much fun.

I agree that the Contemporary pool is not the best of the resorts, but glad the little ones got some pool time.

Thanks Kathy! Excited you have started your latest TR and that it includes Food & Wine Festival :goodvibes

Peter had a blast on the monorail - funny to see the peoples faces that would come and go into our car as we juts stayed on

They definitely had fun in the pool, especially Olivia - was hard to get her out of the pool

I am going to drink out of a pineapple one of these days...I keep forgetting to order that when we go to Kona.

Mark would only go back to Ohana if he could just order the dessert. Unfortunately, we had a really bad meal there last year and he doesn't want to go back. I'm with you...the potstickers are the best part of the meal. Peter with the noodles is hysterical.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: for your first DIS meet. I am sure it is only the beginning of many in the future. And how nice of Lauren to invite you over to see the fireworks from the lounge at BLT.

Definitely give the Lapu Lapu a try - the contents are pretty good too so it isn't like you are *just* paying for the pineapple

Remember to get the bread pudding at Kona then if that is all Mark really wants/needs. We enjoyed 'Ohana but definitely not something we need to do every trip anymore I think.

It was super nice of Lauren to arrange for everything so we could go up there. Definitely hope it is just the first of many :goodvibes

Glad that Peter had fun on his monorail joyride!

Impressive to do the pool with two kids! I have a hard enough time keeping up with one. Totally understand the slide thing – I’ve been there.

Aw, sad Poly! :sad2:

Yes, ‘Ohana bread is nice, but Kona is even better! I love the potstickers too!

Glad things went well with the DIS-meet and you were able to enjoy the lounge and fireworks together! :goodvibes

Peter had a blast and could ride the monorail all day! Good thing this was just the first of many for the rest of our trip - though, this was definitely the longest.

I did ok with both kids - though Peter is a bit nervous around the pool so was challenging at times to keep up with both of them as Olivia wanted to swim out while I was still working on getting Peter into the pool

Poly is definitely a bit sad right now - still hopeful for the future but just doesn't have the same feel now.

In another TR someone posted a recipe for the Kona bread and butter that we definitely want to try ... that is probably our favorite bread we have had at Disney (well, non V&A category at least)

Definitely worked out well - though you know that Lauren is pretty easy to get along with :goodvibes

That's pretty funny Kristy - guess your ears, er, eyes were burning a bit ... your TR is great so far, so many amazing pictures!

Good job catching up! You certainly had a good excuse for being behind a bit ;) We got in a bit earlier than I thought we might on arrival day and with the room not being ready yet we headed over to MGM earlier than planned, so that helped a bit (and helped offset the long dinner). Even with 5 of us, for being just a hotel room we definitely felt like the Contemporary room felt big ... definitely a plus of staying there in that 5 people can fit pretty well!

I am sure one of your trips will overlap with one of Laurens - it was great to get together and fun to hang out with her daughter as well ... after getting over a bit of shyness all the kids seemed to get along well!

First I want to thank you for the recipe. I am soooooo looking forward to trying it. There goes my diet LOL!!!!

Absolutely! Enjoy - though definitely not something one can have every day ... great for when you have family/friends over though

Honestly I think you could have saved a fortune and just rode the monorail :rotfl2:

I think if we were ever to move to the area we would think of a lot of "free things" like riding the monorail. I've heard some people time it right where they take the leg down to EPCOT during Illuminations and get a free fireworks show in as well

You definitely got to the Poly at a good time and got those great family pictures! The food at 'Ohana's was definitely still yummy - though at the beginning I was focussed more on what wasn't there but then when the steak and prok was soooo good it made up for some things for me.

Your DIS meet look fun! I bet Aria had a lot of fun with Peter and Olivia. I bet she was all over Emma. Little girls just seem to have a mother instinct early on and love babies.

I can not wait to see how Olivia enjoys her next day!

Aria definitely got along with Peter and Olivia after they got used to each other a bit - especially at lunch the next day they had fun together. Didn't notice Aria paying too much mind to Emma - might just have been so much other stuff going on to interest her though ;)

Next update will be the start of Olivia's Princesspolooza!

Oh, the monorail is awesome and something so unique to Disney ... just wish they had more of them and that they didn't break down so much :rotfl:

I think I will always miss the big waterfall that used to be in the lobby of the Poly, but am optimistic of what the entire finished product will be.

Definitely was a great end to a fun day - with tons of good food, a great safari, Olivia riding EE for the first time, a new restaurant for us in Sanaa, pool time, Lapu Laus and coconut races, and then a first DISMeet and watching Wishes ... writing all that out is making me tired a bit :lmao:

Glad the monorail was such a success for Peter!

Loved seeing all your Ohana pictures, makes me excited for my reservation there!

Sounds like a lovely Dismeet!

I am glad to see the pics of the Contemporary. I have never seen a picture of it before. I love the little splash area. Landen would love that.

OHAHA! I want to eat your pictures... LOL. I am SOOO excited to try this in February- We will be dining here on our first night- Do you know if they offer something else for children? My boys are not adventureous at all but Steve and I are so excited about trying this. He is a huge meat eater so he will be in heaven!!

LOL at the reference of the " girl you met on the internet". I want to do some DIS meets in February and I know my DH and my friends will think I am crazy but oh well. They don't get the power of the DIS. <3

Ohana looks so good - I definitely need to try it sometime for dinner. I think when we were little and used to stay at the Polynesian that maybe we ate breakfast there? :confused3 I can't really remember where it was, but I remember the Mickey pancakes and it wasn't Kona.

I love watching Wishes from the top of BLT! I am glad you and Lauren were able to meet and watch them together - so cool!

Oh yeah, Peter could have ridden the monorail all day - he loved watching them come into the contemporary too!

Hope you enjoy it! It is a lot of fun and if you can get a table by / near the window there are some really good views ... well, depending on where they are with the construction.

Easy to eat yourself sick there though :rotfl:

It was a very nice DISmeet - hopefully the first of many :thumbsup2

The splash area was really good and about the right speed/level for Olivia and Peter ... I know some can get a little crazy with the amount of water and older kids can take it over, but this one was pretty cool. The pool was definitely fun and I like how it kinda overlooked Bay Lake - very nice setting

I think you will all love 'Ohana! It is a really good experience and fun! Other than the different dessert they don't have a separate kids menu - though I am sure if you ask they will have something for them ... though there are so many options and none of the food is really crazy (nothing spice or anything, even the wings) that I am sure they will find something they will like!

Hope you get to fit in some DISmeets - just fun to meet and instantly have things to talk about. Especially cool when both sides do trip reports/pre-trip reports so you know kinda where they are coming from, etc.

We had done 'Ohana for breakfast in the past and it is quite good - I like that it is served family style rather than a buffet. They do characters for Breakfast only as well. I think they have Mickey Waffles there - not sure about pancakes

Definitely cool to meet up and go almost right to watching Wishes with a great view. Just love that show and love that you can get so many different angles to watch it. I mean, Main St. is so different compared to watching it from Newish Fantasy Land behind the castle vs. watching it from Bay Lake Tower/Contemporary vs. watching from the Poly Beach

The ADR Trifecta! It is quite a challenge that I too have participated in before. By the third meal though, I am already kind of full. I could never do the Deluxe Dining Plan!

Princess Palooza you say! I'm in! princess:

Man oh man, Ohana's is mighty tasty. I have to agree with you on the dishes, too. I could go and get the potstickers and bread pudding and be good to go.:rotfl2:

That was a pretty cool meet and greet destination. Laid back, relaxing, setting, with a good view of Wishes. I'm glad your first DISmeet went so well. I think everyone remembers their first meet vividly. :thumbsup2

I know! I could never do the Deluxe Dining Plan ... it was one thing to have 3 big meals for one day but to eat like that for a week I would explode!

It was a big day for Olivia ... one that I had been planning for quite a while

Darn tootin' with those potstickers and dessert - though this time the beef and pork was really good too!

yeah - definitely was a good way to ease into DISmeets. Even if we hadn't liked each other there was still Wishes to watch ;)

I LOVE riding the monorail. I could go around for hours honestly, it's so relaxing!

I've been craving Disney potstickers lately…for some reason Disney is the one place where I eat them :confused3 but I agree that is my favorite 'Ohana course!

I was very disappointed they got rid of the chicken. I don't eat seafood and the pork there has always been a bit iffy for me. I'm glad it was good for you, though!

BREAD PUDDING. I'd go back just for that. So good.

Well, if we are ever in the World together you and Peter can ride together on the highway in the sky for hours :rotfl:

The potstickers are really good there at 'Ohana - I like them a lot more than the ones at Kona - but I like the wings better at Kona. If I could put a meal together combining those two restaurants I would be in heaven :cloud9:

The pork was definitely the best I have had this trip and have heard others say similar things recently, so maybe they improved it

The bread pudding is 1/2 the reason to go to 'Ohana - though, since you can get it at Kona, make that more attractive too ;)

Aww, yay for such a fun monorail ride!! It's the little things, right?

Dinner at Ohana looks great, and I would love a lapu lapu right now (even if it is only 8:50am! ;))

And, that spot in BLT looks like a great, relaxing place to watch the fireworks!

It definitely is a lot of the little things that separate a Disney vacation

And given that a Lapu Lapu is in a fruit, I think it is totally breakfast friendly :thumbsup2

It was a good spot - nice to just relax a bit before hand and chat and then go out and watch Wishes!

Part 18 - Main St. Photo Session
Wednesday, August 27th

The next morning dawned early and brightly - and we had to get a move on as we had some princesses to meet!

Now, at this point Olivia is not aware of Bibbity Bobbity Boutique - and, much like the existence of American Girl dolls, I am aiming to keep her in the dark as long as possible ;) So instead we give her our own princess makeover using store bought dresses, glitter hairspray, and some lip gloss ... or as I have affectionately become to call it: The Bibbity Bobbity Bodega

After getting her into her Cinderella dress, it was out on to the balcony to hose her down with glitter.

But first, a picture of the princess in front of her Castle:

2jvc_ada_udpu1.jpg

and then zooming in a bit:

413x_47d_udpu1.jpg

After, a close up of the finished product:

50q1_72a_udpu1.jpg

During our stay, the Monorail was operating under somewhat limited service as they were installing the automation equipment - which meant that the monorail was not starting to run in time for us to take it to The Magic Kingdom. So instead we decided to walk - and it is crazy how close it is as even dealing with the kids and pushing the stroller it took us maybe 10 minutes. The kids enjoyed the walk - especially getting to walk under the monorail tracks. We then got all our bags searched and walked over to the area where they let people in early for pre-park opening ADRs and tours.

And the we were presented with the nearly deserted Magic Kingdom and Main St. with the unobstructed view of the Castle

tumblr_mtkqfuT0xc1sixr64o1_250.gif

We had gotten there a bit on the early side so that we could visit a Photopass Photographer and get pictures on the empty Main St.

As we were walking I recognized one of the photographers from some other trip reports I had read and was very excited as I recalled how fun he was. Let me take this time to stress that if you get a chance to use this Photographer - his name is Alex - absolutely do so! He was great and did a bunch of different poses and also was good about taking candid shots as well.

So I should preface that there are a bunch of Main St. pictures coming. #SorryNotSorry

First, we had the three kids alone - and Alex was good about having them take poses. First, as this gif illustrated, he showed Olivia how to pose like a sweet princess:

h3lk_71e_udpu1.gif

She took direction pretty well - Peter was a bit more of a challenge. The idea was to get him to pose showing off his muscles and we eventually got there. I must say, he gave Emma much less direction ;)

Anyway, here is the result of all that effort:

5lw0_608_udpu1.jpg

And here is a more candid one that I think illustrates why it is hard for us to stay mad at Peter some times:

6tj1_1c8_udpu1.jpg

and a close-up of Emma:

90t2_6b3_udpu1.jpg

He also did some solo pictures with Olivia, including a Magic Shot:

c21s_78c_udpu1.jpg

I think this one is great just because of the look on the other Photpass Photographers face:

et1l_324_udpu1.jpg

And we did actually get a family picture as well (don't mind Peter showing off his stomach):

dych_3d4_udpu1.jpg

Overall we had a really great experience and be on the look out for Alex!

After our photosession we were off to breakfast ... though we still hadn't told Olivia yet where this would take place :rolleyes1

(continued next post)

Part 19 - Wait, they have food in there?
Wednesday, August 27th

After our photo session we continued to walk down Main St. towards the Castle and eventually we ask Olivia if she would like to eat in the Castle. She answers: "They have food in there? We can eat in there?!?!?!? I can't believe we get to eat in Cinderella's Castle!!!!!!"

So yeah, meeting the princesses and getting to go in the Castle is cool and all - but the real excitement is that they have food!

It was our first time and it took us a minute to figure out exactly where to go, but we eventually found the check in spot and we were given a receipt to hand in when they call our name. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes and then we were led into the first room where you meet Cinderella.

I have to say that this is one of the things I never thought we would do - just due to cost and challenge to get in we have always done the princess meals at Akershus - but with having TIW and Peter and Emma being under 3, we figured if we were ever going to do it, now was the time. So that was a long way of saying that I was kinda geeking out about actually being inside Cinderella's Castle.

We had to wait for just the family in front of us to finish and then we got to meet Cinderella herself. First Olivia went up alone ...

... get the Signature first (very serious business):

1nnn_450_udpu1.jpg

Then, the two princesses together:

1v6v_44b_udpu1.jpg

Followed by a nice hug:

25u0_05e_udpu1.jpg

Then a family picture:

1whh_148_udpu1.jpg

And before we left, Peter even gave Cinderella a hug:

25mr_9be_udpu1.jpg

Cinderella was really good with Olivia and we definitely didn't feel rushed or anything, which I was glad to see. We got two official pictures presented to us as well - the family shot and the one of Cinderella and Olivia - and they came out great!.

We were then led upstairs and I was really taken aback by how amazing the space is! While not huge it does feel grand and really does feel like you are in a Castle.

We were led to our table - and while I do kinda wish we were more in the middle/near a window, it did give us a good view of the space:

1tpa_e03_udpu1.jpg

Shortly after being seated we were met by a rather perkey (at least for that early in the morning/before enough coffee) Snow White:

25i6_61e_udpu1.jpg

Snow White is one of our favorites and she did a good job trying to engage both kids (I think Peter was still trying to get settled/take it all in though):

2gb8_175_udpu1.jpg

They then brought out are sharing plate of pastries (they were all quite good especially the one that had strawberry or raspberry in it)

1ok8_f0e_udpu1.jpg

and presented with our menus:

1g28_8eb_udpu1.jpg

Then Aurora came by:

392k_72b_udpu1.jpg

Olivia got to enjoy some chocolate milk (and you can see her wishing star as well):

61ri_68a_udpu1.jpg

Then Ariel paid a visit - she is another character that we tend to have great experiences with. I think, generally, she gets to show a little more personality and be a little bit more "silly" with the kids - so our kids love that:

3agv_89c_udpu1.jpg

386k_2cd_udpu1.jpg

Lastly, we saw Jasmine. This was one of the best Jasmine's we have met and she had a great line after seeing Peter's shirt (which stated "I only look charming") that she needed to get that shirt for Abu.

3k5t_878_udpu1.jpg

Now, for the food .... I had read in a Trip Report that someone asked for the traditional breakfast but wanted something instead of the breakfast meats and they said they could have anything they wanted instead - including the Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast. So, after telling Judi this, she was hoping for the same arrangement.

Our waiter said that was fine and shortly after he brought out a separate plate with the Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast - but it had bacon on the plate as well and said that he would have another one made up with no meat. He left this one there though - so the kids and split that one. He then brought out another Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast (this one solo) - described as: Decadent French Toast stuffed with sweet Cream Cheese, baked with Caramel Apples, and drizzled with a Calvados Caramel Sauce. It tasted as good as it looked!

3pth_2c5_udpu1.jpg

And then brought out the rest of her food - which they had also added French Toast Sticks too:

302y_d53_udpu1.jpg

So to recap, Judi got service French Toast sticks, Eggs, Potatoes, and 2 giant Caramel Apple Stuffed French Toast ... I think she had enough to eat :rotfl2:

I wound up ordering the Beef Tenderloin and Egg which was the steak served atop a Potatoes and Cheese Frittata with Broccolini and Blood Orange Gastrique. I was plesantly surprised how good this was! While not the best cut of meet it was well prepared (and to my requested done-ness level) and the Frittata with the broccolini and tomato on it was really excellent.

38ag_6b7_udpu1.jpg

Peter and Olivia were each brought a plate with French Toast Sticks, Eggs, and Bacon. Between that, some of my steak, and the Stuffed French Toast, I think they got their fill ... though Olivia may have been slightly distracted ;)

As Judi had her birthday button on she was presented with a poster with the signature of all the princesses on it (which was nice to get as something different vs. the card a lot of places):

As well as a cupcake - since, you know, she hadn't gotten much to eat yet:lmao:

I had definitely read mixed reviews of the food (and also some shockingly bad recounts of service) but I can honestly say I was more than satisfied on both counts. There was plenty of food and it was all good to great, our server (if a bit hurried at times) was plesant and explained everything. And I never felt too rushed by the Characters - certainly not any more so than at other meals. I also was prettyhappy with the quality of the wishing stars and the wands/sword that the kids got (including Emma which was nice) ... though, not sure if Peter really needs a sword. While having TIW and two kids under 3 definitely helped, I definitely think we got our value out of this meal.

On the way out, we stopped so Judi could use the rest room and I got this cute picture of Olivia and Peter playing with Emma's feet:

The morning was off to a great start - but the fun (and princesses) were just starting!
