"It's Coming and it's BLUE" - A July 2010 TR - COMPLETED!!

Wow, I got so behind on your TR! I think the last time I commented was when you booked your trip that's coming up! And now you're on the last day!

SM four times, I don't think I've ever done that, but it sounds like the perfect start to your last visit to MK!

I never understood the futuristic Chip and Dale...do they have some movie or cartoon where they go to space or something? They're cute, but I agree, the costumes are strange!

I love the Mickey utensils. And the mugs. I have this one Disney mug that I got on my November trip (which, btw, you would know about IF you ever read my November TR...:rolleyes1 :sad1:) and every single time I use it, it makes me happy and reminds me of being in Disney. :upsidedow
Wait, I didn't read your TR? I thought I read your most-recent TR. The one where you saw Snooki? For a while, I got so behind on everyone's TRs that I stopped leaving comments, but I definitely read it. :)

Riding Space Mountain 4 times in a row is something everybody should do at least once. It was so much fun. We would've kept going, but repeatedly walking through that whole queue is exhausting. :rotfl:

JULY 28TH PART TWO: THAT'S ALL, FOLKS
When I last left off, we said goodbye to the Magic Kingdom and, one last time, took the boat back to the Polynesian to get our car.

Here are a few pictures I snapped as we walked to the Great Ceremonial House:
1079-1.jpg

I absolutely love this leaning palm tree.
1080-1.jpg

1082.jpg

One last shot of Fiji, our home away from home for the previous 5 days. So many memories...

Before leaving, we decided to take one last look around Boutiki.
1084.jpg

1083.jpg

I love that little tiki guy.
1085.jpg

1088.jpg

I strongly considered buying a couple of these glasses, but, ultimately, decided not to. I kind of regret it. They’d be great for juice in the morning. Or alcohol. What? I’m almost 21. ;)

I think Dad wound up buying a Polynesian t-shirt or something, so after he was finished making his purchase, we headed out.
1090.jpg

Siiiiigh. Oh, Polynesian, I miss you so much! I can’t wait to see you next Tuesday for some delicious grilled meats and my first Lapu Lapu.

When we got to our car, it was INSANELY hot inside, so we stood around like idiots for a few minutes waiting for it to cool down. See, this is why we take the buses everywhere while in the World. July heat + cars sitting out in it = stifling warmth and scorching hot seatbelts.
1091.jpg

Once it was finally cool enough to enter without feeling as if you were about to burn to a crisp, we hopped in and drove over to Downtown Disney. Grabbing lunch at the Earl of Sandwich and browsing through the shops is a bit of a last day tradition for us.

1093.jpg

1094.jpg

The Characters in Flight balloon was up. I’m sure the views from up there are incredible.

Because we were all a bit on the hungry side, we headed straight for our good friend, The Earl.
1099.jpg

Here’s Katie posing with The Earl.
1100.jpg

Katie and I found a table outside and chilled while Mom and Dad dealt with the hordes inside and got our food. The wait ended up being not nearly as long as we feared.

I don’t remember what everyone else ordered, but I got my usual, the Earl’s Club.
1102.jpg

It was delicious. Earl of Sandwich sandwiches are the best.

~Continued in next post~

After lunch, we headed over to the 25 Days of Christmas shop to pick out a few new Christmas ornaments. We buy a new ornament (or two) every trip. Actually, we have ornaments from just about everywhere any of us have ever traveled. My parents started that tradition before Katie and I were born. It’s always fun to look at all of the ornaments each Christmas and reminisce about all of the trips we’ve taken over the years. It’s also fun to reminisce about the awful macaroni-covered ornaments Katie and I made as kids, but I digress…
1104.jpg

1105.jpg

Ugh, there’s a horrible glare in this shot, but I love the window displays outside of the store. They’re so perfectly Christmas!

Entering this shop never fails to make me smile. The ginormous Christmas décor is amazing.
I mean, GIANT CHRISTMAS TREE BRANCHES!
1110.jpg

GIANT ORNAMENTS!
1117.jpg

1118.jpg

PRESENTS!
1111.jpg

It’s all so perfect!

Mom and I spent a while scouring the store for the perfect ornament. I got a bit distracted by a Thanksgiving display, though. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. There’s nothing better than stuffing yourself with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, and most importantly, pumpkin pie.

Anyway, I found these salt and pepper shakers and fell in love.
1112.jpg

Let’s just hope that they still sell them when I’m grown up and hosting my own Thanksgiving dinner. Because I will totally be the one to host Thanksgiving dinner. My entire extended family has been made well aware of this. Someone else hosting it is not even up for discussion. It will be hosted by me. And my future husband/kids. Ok, probably just me and my future dogs. But, whatever, Thanksgiving is MINE.

While I was distracted by Thanksgiving, Mom found this ornament set. We both loved it, so we bought it. Blown Glass Spaceship Earth is my favorite. It’s so very sparkly.
1114.jpg

After Christmasing it up, we headed over to World of Disney to over-stimulate ourselves with Disney merchandise. But first, we stopped to take a picture with Mr. Potatohead outside of the toy store.
330.jpg

My sucky, beat up camera decided to pose with me. It was his final hurrah.

Once we got to World of Disney, the rest of the family headed in, but I made a mad dash for Basin. I wanted to see if they sold Mickey Mouse soaps that didn’t smell like cotton candy (unlike the one at the Grand Floridian).
1126.jpg

I found these which didn’t smell like cotton candy, but I still wasn’t too thrilled with the scent. I can’t remember what it is now, but it was a bit weird. But the colors were really cute, so if I couldn’t find anything else, I was going to buy a bar.
1127.jpg

I also really liked this bar o’ palm tree soap.
1128.jpg

It smelled wonderfully tropical. I figured since we stayed at the Polynesian that it would make for a good representation of our trip, so I gave up on the colorful Mickey heads and settled for this one.

But then, at the last possible second, I FINALLY found the perfect bar of soap.
1129.jpg

The red ones smelled like Dr. Pepper (eh) but the yellow ones smelled like vanilla! SCORE! I like the scent of vanilla and it wasn’t ridiculously overpowering. Plus, what’s better than the classic Mickey colors?

I quickly made my purchase and headed over to World of Disney to share my triumph with the rest of the fam. Only that was quite difficult because WoD is so freakin’ huge. I cannot handle it in there. It’s too overwhelming. Plus, it was like 1:00 and there were a million people in there and ugh. Just ugh. I finally found the fam in the princess room looking at god knows what. One exasperated look at each other and we knew it was time to head out. So, we bought a couple bottles of water, headed out to our car, and settled in for the 2 hour drive to my grandmother’s house. I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but after each of our Disney trips, we go spend a few days at my grandma’s in Clearwater. It’s always sad to leave Disney, but I do look forward to spending some time with my grandma since we only get to see her once or twice a year (if she comes up to visit us). Plus, her house is like a second home to me. I mean, I’ve been visiting every year since I was born. I have so many wonderful memories there. So, while I felt like crying because we were leaving WDW, I put on a happy face and smiled as we drove past this sign because, as you all know, with Disney, it’s never “Goodbye,” it’s "See you real soon!”

UP NEXT: A One Post PTR. Starting an actual PTR seems like a waste, but I'm excited and I want to share some of our plans with my DISfriends. For instance, ONE WEEK FROM RIGHT NOW, WE WILL BE DINING WITH POOH & CO. AT THE CRYSTAL PALACE!!!!! WOOOOO!!!! :woohoo: :cool1: :yay:

Sad this TR is over, but I'm excited for your next trip!

I had to laugh at the salt & pepper shakers. Ever since I moved out on my own I've developed a bit of a collection. I blame my brother, he started buying them for me as gifts and the next thing I knew I had 5 different ones, so now it's become the family joke and I have about 10 (I've only been on my own for 4 years!)

And since you'll be 21, here's my not to miss 21+ experiences at WDW: sharing a drink with your Mom while sitting around the World Showcase watching people. Her words were "I never knew this side of Disney existed!" Try the Grey Goose Slushie or Pomegranate Kir in France and a margarita at Cava del Tequila in Mexico. Try Dad's Electric Lemonade or Grandma's Picnic Punch at 50s Prime Time. And definitely check out Jellyrolls.

Sad but great update, Kara! :thumbsup2 I loved that you said "Christmasing it up" because I create sentences like that depending on what I'm doing - for example, went to a Kentucky Derby party a while back and all day said "we're derbying it up!" So I appreciated seeing you say it too! :goodvibes

Sooo excited for you guys and your quickly approaching trip!!! That sure makes this TR ending SO much less sad! Have an amazing time and I sure am looking forward to your next TR!!!

I really like that Mickey Mouse Soap! I want it :)
And I need to go to Earl of Sandwich! It looks so good. I haven't been there in a long time!
And since I'm going at Christmastime next year I feel like I'm really going to appreciate that Christmas store :wizard:
I'm sad you're leaving :( But I am VERY happy there is another trip report on the way :woohoo: and of course, your actual vacation haha

Less than a week Kara, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so very jealous of you but SO EXCITED at the same time!!! I can't wait to hear about your birthday adventures. Also want to know more about that Lapu Lapu.

I like the pink pillows you guys have in the car. My family only brought blankets on our trips. Pillows would've been a great idea.

Your last day sounds really nice! I want to start a last day tradition too.

I love that Christmas store. I can't wait until I have my own place and my own plastic tree stored somewhere so I can bring it out and decorate it for Christmas. All the ornaments there are so cute/pretty/nice/pretty.

Awww, I think it's wonderful that you guys visit your grandma like that. The trip isn't over just yet!

Can't wait to hear about your plans.

OMG 4 DAYS!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

You must be FUH-REA-KING out!!! :jumping1:

Goodbye, Polynesian. :( So sad, but you'll be back soon for food!!! :woohoo:

Cars + July in Florida = death traps. The air-out should be required by the Florida Health Commissioner or something.

Earl of Sandwich is always a tradition for us too. On either our first or our last day. We love it there. The BLT is my fave. :cloud9:

25 Days of Christmas is beautiful! My family always buys an ornament there every trip.

You go girl! Take charge of Thanksgiving! :yay:

I love the 4 parks ornaments! Those are definitely on my list of things to buy this summer! Theyr'e so cute!

All of those soaps are so cute! I would never want to use them though, they're too cute!

I love the "See you real soon" sign, it just makes me feel so much better about leaving. Like it reminds me that I'll be back. :goodvibes

:rotfl:

Oh did you read it? I had no idea! I have TR's that I read but never leave comments, but then I will leave one random one, like I have been all along, then I feel SO stupid because I haven't been and I never comment again...:rotfl:

I have to admit, I feel like I did pretty good starting off with that TR, then it got a little boring at the end. :guilty: I'm gonna have to brush up on my writing skills before my next one, I feel like I'm so "here we are, here's what we did" and that's it! :confused3

Anyway! I can't believe it's the end of your trip!! :sad1: I LOVE those glasses you saw at the Poly, I might have to stop in Boutiki and pick one up, they are so strange! I love random Disney stuff that isn't obviously Disney.

I love the Earl of Sandwich...the fact that I have no idea when we will end up eating at EoS on our trip this October is so annoying to me, I think it's going to be totally spontaneous, which is ok, but...I better get there at least once!

That Christmas store is my favorite Disney store ever. I love that sparkly Spaceship Earth! :)

Can't wait to read your one post PTR! Is the lapu lapu going to be your first alcoholic drink as a legal adult? That's just too perfect! :woohoo:

YAYYYYYY!!! Less than a week to go. I already have your Mariethecat account on twitter on text alert. Is that creepy? I need to live vicariously through you! I regret nothing tbh.

The Poly is just too. beautiful!!!!! I CAN'T STAND IT. See you in EXACTLY 4 months, Poly.

I love that that guy is just walking around Boutiki topless. And I love those glasses!

Characters in Flight seems fun but it's odd that you just go up and... sit there. I mean, if they are going to have a hot air balloon that just hovers, can't they have one that actually flies over WDW? Now THAT would be amazing!

I've never been to Earl of Sandwich! Well, that isn't true. I've been inside but never gotten anything. My love of sandwiches pretty much begins and ends with Grilled Cheese.

I've never been in the Christmas store! I guess I'm just never in the Christmas mood at Disney. But I looove those ornaments you got so maybe I will have to stop in next trip!

Sooo obsessed with Basin but you know that already! LOVE the soaps you picked!

I can't handle World of Disney either! Everyone else is like ~must do WoD on every trip~ and I'm like LOL I haven't been in there in 5 years. Maybe if I was a billionaire I would spend 8 hours looking at everything and selecting whatever I wanted, but until then... it's just like there are TOO many rooms and I want TOO MANY things!

Well it was a fabulous trip report, obviously. I can't wait for your next one. I'm SO excited for you! :wizard:

Hello DISfriends! One week from RIGHT NOW, we'll probably be chilling in France waiting for our 5:30 ADR at Les Chefs. I cannot wait. :woohoo:
Sad this TR is over, but I'm excited for your next trip!

I had to laugh at the salt & pepper shakers. Ever since I moved out on my own I've developed a bit of a collection. I love kitschy salt & pepper shakers. I could definitely see myself with quite a collection. I mean, I've never been one to collect stuff, but some of them are just so adorable.

Ok, so, due to some, um, unfortunate planning circumstances, we're only spending 1 day at Epcot and it's the DAY BEFORE I turn 21. It sucks. A lot. :sad2: But, at least I'll have something to look forward to on our next trip. We do have dinner ADRs at Cape May one night, so maybe after we'll have to go check out Jellyrolls. :thumbsup2

Haha I say stuff like that ALL THE TIME. I'm notorious for making up my own words.

Thanks so much! :goodvibes

I am so jealous of your Christmas trip. You have no idea. Christmas + Walt Disney World = Pure bliss. :rotfl:

I'm kinda sad this thing is over too. I mean, it's my first TR. It will always hold a special place in my heart. Of course, the excitement of our upcoming trip is making me forget all about the sadness, but it's there if I wanted to feel it. Ok, that made absolutely no sense. Clearly, I am going crazy with excitement.
Less than a week Kara, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait to share the birthday adventures that have yet to happen. LOL. I have a feeling that it's going to be quite the trip. My entire family has been in a really silly mood lately and (hopefully) that will carry over to WDW.

I will more than likely dedicate an entire post to the magicalness of my first Lapu Lapu. Then I will dedicate a post to the men grilling my meat. And then the bread pudding...'Ohana is the best.

I couldn't sit in a car for that long without my pillow. I set it up against the window and then bury my head in it. It's not the most comfortable position ever, but it's better than nothing. :rotfl:

I will probably go broke someday after spending all of my money on Christmas decorations. I really need to marry someone rich. Or Santa.

OMG 4 DAYS!!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

You must be FUH-REA-KING out!!! :jumping1:

I am totally freaking out. I've reached that 'OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO BE AT DISNEY SO FREAKIN' SOON' state where all I can do is read the DISboards and listen to Disney music. :cool1:

Mmmmmm I love BLTs. I'm sure that Earl of Sandwich makes a mean BLT.

Yeah, it took MONTHS before I finally gave in and used the soap. I almost cried the first time I got it wet. I'm such a weirdo. :rotfl:

EXACTLY. That sign always makes me feel better. I mean, Disney's in my blood. I know I'll be back again someday. And let's hope that "someday" is sooner rather than later. :thumbsup2
Oh did you read it? I had no idea! I have TR's that I read but never leave comments, but then I will leave one random one, like I have been all along, then I feel SO stupid because I haven't been and I never comment again...:rotfl:

Yeah, I really like those glasses. I think I might buy a couple the night we eat at 'Ohana. I don't remember how much they cost. Let's hope it's not too outlandish.

It might be my first drink as a legal adult. I haven't decided if I'm going to drink at AK during the day or not. I've heard good things about some of the drinks at the Dawa Bar, so I might stop there and get one. But, at the same time, a Lapu Lapu as my first drink would be quite fitting. :upsidedow

That is not creepy at all. It's not like you're going to be stalking me from the bushes...wait, you were totally going to do that right? I bet you've even started gluing foliage all over your 'stake out' clothes so you'll blend in. I should probably warn my family not to freak out if they see something moving in the bushes. "Don't worry, Mom. It's not an alligator or a snake. It's just Lia."

Anyway, I will make sure to tweet lots and lots to keep you guys updated. :thumbsup2

HAHAHA I thought about commenting on the random shirtless guy, but then I thought I'd just leave it as is. I mean, it adds to the ambiance, right?

I LOVE GRILLED CHEESE. There's a restaurant near me that only makes grilled cheese. You can get anything from a super simple 'cheese and bread' sandwich to more elaborate gourmet sandwiches with tons of funky toppings like pierogis, lasagna, bacon&eggs...It's so fattening and yet so delicious.

Yeah, I'd be more inclined to spend time in there if I couldn't find all of that merch in the parks. Like, I've never seen anything special merchandise there. The only thing 'exclusive' to WoD is a headache.

And I would totally cry when the soap got wet too...which is probably why I would never actually use it.

:rotfl2:

That would be hilarious. You must document it.
Y'know, it's really too bad that I can't hire a camera crew to follow me around the parks and turn my vacation into a reality show. It would be thoroughly entertaining. I've never actually seen it for myself, of course, but I've been told that I give a darn good 'reaction face.' It's probably from all of those years I spent watching Laguna Beach/The Hills.
Hahaha I feel like I'm in that state right now too, even though I still have 27 days LOL. :yay:

Aw, your trip is gonna be here so soon! That's so exciting! And, frankly, majorly upsetting for me because that means I'll be back from my own trip soon. :sad2: Do you think your family would mind adopting me for the week?

I am in the bushes at Coronado Springs right now waiting for your arrival. I know I'm early but I want to be prepared so as soon as you arrive I can begin stalking your every move very precisely.

Random shirtless guys make everything better. Especially if it's someone from the cast of the Vampire Diaries. Unfortunately this occurs very rarely in my real life. Not that I'm very familiar with "real life" anyway.

THAT SOUNDS LIKE HEAVEN, OMG. I looove buying all kinds of fancy cheeses and making fancy grilled cheese. I'm dying to try the grilled cheese at Captain Cook's that everyone says is so amazing. That's yet another thing I need to do next trip.

A ONE POST PTR!!!

I haven't really spoken (errr written) in great detail about my upcoming trip yet, but I really wanted to let you guys in on some of our plans before we left, and thus, the One Post PTR was born.

Travel:
As usual, we're driving down to Florida. Mom, Dad, and I are leaving on Friday afternoon, spending the night in Charlotte, and finishing the rest of the drive on Saturday. Assuming traffic isn't absolutely horrendous, we should arrive in Orlando late-afternoon-ish. We're staying off-site for that first night before moving over to Disney the next morning. We're planning on spending our arrival evening at Downtown Disney. I've never actually been to DTD at night, so that will be a new experience. Plus, I've just recently learned that you can make your own Mickey Rice Crispy Treat at Goofy's Candy Co. so that is a must-do. :thumbsup2

Katie and her boyfriend, Wade (who will be thoroughly introduced in the TR), are flying down on Sunday morning. Their flight gets in around 9:45 AM, so they won't be missing much.

Where We're Staying:
We're spending 5 nights at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. We have two rooms booked (obviously) which means I get my own bed! SCORE! This will be our first time staying at a Moderate (yeah, we're total Deluxe snobs) but I've heard it said that CSR is the most "deluxe" of the Moderates, so I hope we'll like it.

Where We're Eating:

Because we received a pin for Free Dining, this will be our first trip on the Disney Dining Plan. We've looked into the Dining Plan before, but never really thought it was a great deal for our family. We often share meals or just snack our way through the parks with a couple sit-down meals sprinkled in there. But because it was FREE, or, well, discounted (because we're at a Mod, we only received QS Dining and had to pay $12 a person per day to upgrade) why the heck not try and see how we like it?

Our ADRs (all Dinners)
  • T-Rex
  • Crystal Palace
  • Les Chefs de France
  • 'Ohana
  • Cape May Cafe
  • Whispering Canyon Cafe

Other Noteworthy Items:

MY BIRTHDAY! I turn 21 on July 5th. I'm so excited that I'll be drinking my "first" alcoholic beverage at Disney. :upsidedow Despite the fact that we tend to vacation in July, this will be my first time being in WDW on my actual birthday. I've never been a big fan of birthdays - I used to cry when my family sang Happy Birthday to me - nor have I ever asked for big parties or anything, so letting myself celebrate a bit should be fun.

THE FOURTH OF JULY! Even though it will be crowded, I'm quite excited to be spending the 4th in the parks. We're gonna watch the special Magic Kingdom fireworks on the 3rd when it's less crowded, and then, spend the 4th at Epcot. I really want to go see one of the special Voices of Liberty concerts and meet Mickey in his colonial garb. I'm a total American History nerd and patriotic music tends to turn me into a sobbing mess, so that should be a lot of fun.

A SPACE SHUTTLE LAUNCH! On the morning of July 8th, the final space shuttle mission is scheduled for liftoff. We're hoping that everything goes as schedules and we'll be able to see it from WDW. I'm really excited about this. I mean, how cool would it be to say that I saw the last ever space shuttle launch?

TWITTER! Here's a link to my Disney Twitter account: MarieTheCat24
I'll be tweeting from the parks, so feel free to follow along!

KAYAKING! Mom really wants to rent a kayak one afternoon. If the weather cooperates, we'll probably do it. It could get very, very interesting. I've been kayaking before, but Mom and I in a kayak together is a recipe for disaster. We're totally going to be attacked by a wild animal or something. At the very least, there will be people pointing and laughing at us. Probably the rest of our family. :rotfl:

So, that's our trip in a nutshell.

Now, I've gotta go attempt to start organizing my clothes. We leave in less than 48 hours and I haven't started packing at all! Thankfully, I have a general idea of what I want to wear for certain occasions, so packing shouldn't be too hard. The hardest part is getting me to start.

Sooo late, but joining in anyway! I've always wanted to stay at the Polynesian resort. I can't wait to read your TR and see the pics. I've got a lot of catching up to get started on.

I am going through some serious TVD withdrawls. I mean, that show frustrates me to no end sometimes, but everyday I'm like, "WHEN IS IT COMING BACK? I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE!!!" On last night's Pretty Little Liars (which was a little bit better than the first 2..."A" did something awesome), Toby was shirtless and doing some construction work. He's pretty ripped, so I should've been happy. Instead, I almost started crying because it just wasn't the same. Siiiiiiigh.

OMG. The Captain Cook's grilled cheese is fab. Definitely make the trip over and get some. You won't regret it. Well, you might regret the food, but you won't regret going to the Polynesian.

:welcome:

Thanks for joining us! The Polynesian is quite fabulous. I really hope you get to stay there someday. :)

Kara! The upcoming trip sounds amazing! From the 4th of July to the first official (legal) alcoholic beverage...it should be an amazing time! May I recommend Epcot on the 4th? We were there last year and the fireworks were AMAZING! Plus, there was PM EMH and we just strolled around WS while they were playing all this patriotic music...it was incredible! And very cool about the shuttle launch! Our trip once almost coincided with a launch but it kept getting pushed back.
