It's ALL About the Food (We go to WDW to eat and drink!!) ~ October 2009 TR

Ihad every intention of finishing up this report this morning. Instead, I spent the day at the vet with Kristin's best friend. Her parents are gone for the weekend, out of cell phone range. Her beloved chocolate retriever collapsed last night and she had to have him put down today. Kristin had to work and there was no one else to be with Ashley. I couldn't let her be alone. So, my report won't be finished until tomorrow. Poor pup. :(

Oh how sad, my heart goes out to them.:grouphug:

I liked the Cointreau Noir very much. If you like sipping good brandy you will like the Noir. My description of it to Bob (before I knew what it was, exactly) was it tasted more like cognac than Cointreau. And guess what... I was right!

Sounds wonderful ... I think one of us will be trying it next week. I kind of have my eye on one of the dessert wine flights so perhaps I will "pressure" Jay into ordering the Noir. ;)

Sorry to hear about Kristin's friend's dog ... that's such a hard thing to go through; she's lucky to have you there to help her while her parents are away.

I hate today.

It’s our last day. Our towncar will be here at 4:15 for the trip back to the airport. In a little over 12 hours we will be landing in Baltimore with a 90 minute drive home ahead of us. I am never ready to go home. Almost everyone that I ever travel with is ready. In fact, sometimes they are ready long before I am. I wish I had the time and the funds to go to WDW one time and just stay until I am ready to leave. I wonder how long that would be? :scratchin

Mousekeeping was knocking on our door at 8:18 this morning and she was angry that we were not leaving before 11:00. When I told her we would be gone by 11:00 she tried to get me to agree to be gone by 9:00, or possibly 10:00!! Apparently my use of the “Privacy Please” hang tag is not important to this Cast Member. Apparently my wants were not important to this Cast Member! I was awake, but Bob was not. I think most people would not be up and ready to leave at 8:00 a.m. Management will hear about this problem; I think it is a necessary complaint. By the way, we got out of the room a bout 10:30 but I was mean… I didn’t take the hang tag off.

Resort airline check-in took care of our baggage as well as handling the storage of our carry-ons and we were off to Epcot for a few hours. It was another beautifully sunny day, but very hot and humid once again. I decided to chronicle our trek today in photos. I figure most of you will know where we are! So … please enjoy.

I stopped at one of the F&W Festival gift kiosks and purchased the items I wanted to send back home as gifts. I think $19.95 is a very fair price for shipping so we use this service every year. I got cookbooks, wine charms, bottle stoppers. I debated about the red T-shirt and a set of the dessert plates, and Bob considered the cutting board. But, we decided “we” didn’t need those things. I do kind of wish I had bought the T-shirt. I saw it on someone later in the day and really liked it a lot. As I was waiting for the transaction to be completed I looked back toward the UK and snapped this photo. I also called and canceled our 1:00 reservation for Rose & Crown. We knew we wouldn’t make it back that way in time and there was still a lot we had not tried at the F&W kiosks.

We wanted to check out the new Tequila Ditch (Cava de Tequila) in the Mexican pavilion.

One of the major eye-openers for us on this trip was the care that Disney has given to provide anyone with a handicap a stunning vacation. The ease of access, the views provided even on a level most of us don’t see… We were impressed!

A new view of Mexico:

Although we didn’t want to order anything in the Cava, we did want to step in to see what it was about. It is a lovely (but small) space! And it was packed at noon on a Thursday. We are looking forward to taking our daughters back here in December!

Time to find more foods to try!
1008091249.jpg

And a stop at the bathrooms in Norway. I miss the Viking Ship! And the play area right there. How sad that this is all that is left.

Continued on next post...

As we were leaving that area Bob decided it was time for a cigarette. It was his job to find a smoking section so he found there was one back in the Chinese pavilion. As we headed that way he said he never knew all this “stuff” was back there. He had never been in the Chinese pavilion! We rectified that after his stop. This is one of the most beautiful areas in World Showcase. I have to admit that the shopping area to the left is not where I like to go; there is just not a lot back there I would want to buy. But the pavilion itself, the landscaping. Wow!

We continued around the World Showcase deciding what was left that we had not tried yet. There wasn’t a lot of room in our tummies, either! We decided to try the Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Potato Puree and Mango BBQ Sauce. I enjoyed this very much!

(I also promised to make a list of the things we tasted this trip with a rating, of sorts, of what we liked. I will get to that later today or this week.)

We were hot and tired. And full of great food and drink. We were near the boat dock in Germany, and therefore had made it back to where we had stopped the other day. As much as I didn’t want to leave my favorite park, I knew it was time. So we grabbed the next Friendship boat over to the other side of the big water! I love the views from this ride.

When we got back to the Beach Club we decided to stop at Hurricane Hanna’s for some time in the shade and something cool to drink. We also enjoyed pool gazing!

Our driver arrived right on time. But not before we got to see a wedding party arrive for their reception at Ariel’s. The guests arrived on two Disney Cruise Line busses and the bride and groom came by stretch limo. What a fun thing to see just before we left!

The trip back was without incident. We had a fine flight, little traffic on the road home. And now things are back to normal. I can’t wait to go back! Come on, December. :teeth:

1st a big  to you for helping Kristens friend! That is an awful thing to go through and I'm sure it meant the world to her that you were there for her :hug::hug:

I agree that I'm never ready to go home when it's time to leave. The only time that's been close was last December when we had the car accident on the way down and Jon was sick for most of the trip. It just wasn't the most enjoyable trip; so I didn't mind leaving as much - but I still didn't really want to leave.

Way back before kids, Jon & I took my Aunt with MS (multiple sclerosis) to Disney for a day. I still remember how wonderful everyone was and how happy she was that she was able to do & experience so much from a wheelchair. Glad to hear that it still is that way :thumbsup2

Sorry the trip is over, but at least you have 2 trips coming up to look forward to! :woohoo:

You are so right, Chelle!! I plan to do some planning this afternoon for our driving trip for Christmas. And, I forgot to say... We did say HI to Art for everyone. He was only working one day while we were there last week. I told him how much he would be missed and better yet, remembered. :goodvibes

Lovely pictures Elin ... thanks again for taking the time to share so much with us.

I hate the last day, too. I've never yet been ready to leave when it's been time to leave. :sad1:

I am never ready to leave either. On my last day I heard a guy saying they'd been there 5 days and he was ready. I was thinking I've been here twice as long and am no where NEAR ready. I wonder how long it would be until I was ready??? Wouldn't it just be delicious to find out?? Of course it would also be incredibly expensive and involve a LOT of weight gain. :rolleyes1 But I think I would be willing to make the sacrifice...

Loved your last day pictures. Nothing like a stroll around the World Showcase in my book and of course I am in love with the Beach Club.

I bet December will be here before you know it! And you must have a drink in Cava del Tequila. Yum-o! And they pack a punch!! ;)

Elin Thank You for sharing your great pic:goodvibes. We never like to leave there has been a few times that I was able to get DH:hug: to stay at least one extra day. Regarding the reislings I like Chatue St. Michele and there is one in a blue bottle. I think it is called little german or its called something else and little german is the website. I bought one the other day at Sam's Club the flavor on this one was real fruity. I also like chardonneys what is the difference really between a resiling and a chardonney? I'm sure be now alot of you fell out of your chairs anddoing this:rotfl2:. Please let me know :flower3:. Thank You:goodvibes

I just got all caught up! I love the fact that you and yourBob never went on a single ride the whole trip but still had a wonderful time!

Well.... Rieslings and Chardonnays are made from two different kinds of grapes. Many chards are oaked, but reislings aren't. There can be sweet rieslings, but not chards. And I am not laughing at you! Hoping to point out things to make you curious enough to break out of your riesling rut! ;)

Chateau Ste. Michelle makes a decent riesling and they also make a chardonnay. Why not start out trying that and see if you like the differences?

I really enjoyed your TR! Sounds like you had a great meal at FF. I can't wait to try it out in Dec.

Sorry your trip was too short. I would love to go and stay until I was ready to come home. I went for 14 nights once and still wasn't ready to leave!

Can't wait to see you 12/5!

So glad you had a safe trip home! Your dinner at Flying Fish sounded absolutely wonderful!!!

Denise

Elin you are just great. I have tried Chateau Ste. Michelle reisling and chardonnay. I like both I just didn't know they are from two different kind of grapes. Do you know why reislings are mostly from germany? I can't venture to far in the wine area no red at all it just makes my head real tight. If you have other suggestions I would love hear about them and try:flower3:.

The riesling grape grows well in Germany so they grow it and make good wines out of it. Remember... most wines, spirits and foods are native to areas because the ingredients in them are native to those areas. If things grow well in an area the people there will make stuff out of them. And the stuff they make ought to be good!

What about a pinot grigio/pinot gris? Or a sauvignon blanc? Chateau Ste. Michelle makes both of those and you know you like their reisling and their chard! Or be really adventurous and try their Gewürztraminer!!

I will vouch for the Gewurztraminer ... it's terrific! :thumbsup2
