It's a Small World - Appreciation Society *50th Anniversary!*

During my first trip to the world 7 years ago, I caught the magic of IaSW
by accident. I was in a restroom of the Contemporary, and heard singing. I came out, and at the sink was a 4 year old princess washing up. She was singing word for word the theme song. She was unaware I was there, and her mom was washing up and turned to me and said, "Can you tell where we were today"? That was the disney magic I was looking for. :goodvibes
What a great moment. I must say one trip on the boats was too much for DH, but I enjoy it every time, and will wait in line every time. :worship:

I like IASW. It reminds me of our trip to DL in the mid sixties.

I love IASW. When I was little, I loved looking at the costumes from all of the different countries. Although, since reading Kingdom Keepers, my DS and I will probably be imagining the dolls coming to life and trying to kill us next time we ride it. :scared1::rotfl2:

Is there room for 1 more in the boat?

I absolutely love this ride! It began my whole love affair with DisneyWorld.....

It was the summer of 1987. I was 9 years old & so excited to be going to DisneyWorld for the 1st time. I was enjoying our trip and then....we rode IASW. That's pretty much when I fell head over heels in love with DisneyWorld. In fact, my dad & I loved it so much that we rode it (by ourselves) countless times that trip. And my dad used up 13 rolls of film on just that one ride!

As an adult, I still love it & have enjoyed getting to experience with my son, who also loves it. Him & I often sing the song around our house....much to the chagrin of my husband. :lmao:

Loving all the stories and experiences so far!! Just warms my heart to see the outpouring of love for this ride.

And I especially love the jewelry box! Wow. What a neat piece of disneyana!

The only IaSW stuff I have are some ornaments for my Xmas tree and a blanket I have my DD. If any of you have neat SW merch or pics on the ride etc, feel free to share!

There are many scenes throughout the ride that are favorites of mine. But, this one right at the beginning, has been my favorite since the 1st time I rode IASW. As a little girl, I always dreamed about going to Paris and, well, this is the closest I've gotten so far.........

I'm in! I was so disappointed when it was closed for refurbishment during our last visit, because I really was looking forward to riding with my son for his first time... but even though we missed it he still can sing the song and knows it's mommy's favorite ride!!!:woohoo:

Oh, how I LOVE it's a small world! DH and I just got back yesterday from an all-too-brief trip to WDW, and we rode IASW twice. I was a little sad that the "Cleopatra" doll seems to be missing from her boat in the Egyptian scene. Anyone know why? I hope she's just being cleaned or repaired!

Amandaw, that scene with the can-can dancers is one of my faves, too! But then I also love the belly dancers, the Thai dancers, the hula dancers...the list goes on! :)

I'm IN, but only because I heard there were snacks involved. If someone points me to the crab dip, I'm in for life! :woohoo:

Truth be told I like the ride. It's cute and it's totally Disney. No matter how delusional you are, when you're on that ride you just know you are at Disney. Hogwarts has no comparison, not to mention enough rides.

The cool kids tend not to like rides like IASW, instead they prefer Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Space Mountain. I'd rather hang with the nerdy kids that appreciate mini, audio animatrontic, semi functioning dolls that move as if they are suffering from some strange palsy. Nothing too complicated for me! Let's keep life simple and cute shall we? And let's not get into that song.... OK lets! It's really great for humming around annoying co-workers! Once they know that as soon as you see them coming you're going to start humming and get that song stuck in their head they stay Far FAR AWAY! Mission accomplished! :thumbsup2

I make a mean spinach dip so I'll bring that to the next chapter meeting. Should we wear outfits from our favorite countries too? With a little duct tape and some spanx I think I might be able to fit in that Dirndl we have laying around the house....

Let me know....

I know, there are so many great scenes! I could probably post a picture from every scene. Hmmm.....maybe I could do a post of a picture from every scene in order to recreate the ride here for everyone. :lmao:

Yay! I'm in!

I do not get the IASW hatred at all.

I :lovestruc Mary Blair's artistic style and there's so much to look at. In that regard, the newer rides (e.g., Pooh, Nemo) cannot compare at all. It's a classic and it's wonderful.

IASW is sentimental for me so I definitely love it. Back in the early 80s, my grandparents took a trip to WDW and my grandmother lost my grandfather for hours. When she finally found him, he said to her "you just have to see this ride, it's beautiful." Turns out that entire time he was riding it over and over and over.

Your post is abeter fit on this board :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

This is my dd13's fave too. She has been hooked on all things french for 2 years running now, so loves all the ooh la la's.

I have always loved this ride but usually end up riding without the rest of my family! :lmao:

Here's one of my favorite scenes where I rode in a practically empty boat group!

This room, and the pink elephant, are my favorite things on the ride. :goodvibes
