It's a Small World - Appreciation Society *50th Anniversary!*

Yes, I am a lover of Small World. When I was a little girl visiting Disneyland, IASW was one of the very few rides that I wasn't afraid of, ha. My grandma also adored it so we would often ride it together over and over again. So from that alone, the ride holds a special place in my heart. But now that I'm older, I appreciate it on a higher level because I have a profound respect for Mary Blair and her artwork. I also don't find the song annoying.

Honestly, it's not nearly as horrifying as people like to pretend it is. I think, for the most part, people overdramatize the hate because they think it's fun. Pop culture references have taught us for so many years that we are "supposed" to hate it, and so that idea is already implanted in the brain before many even get on the ride.

I think we need some kind of Small World Appreciation Society graphic for signatures. :)

I hate they did away with much of the singing throughout though;

They did? NOOOOOO!!!!!!

Haven't been back to the MK in nearly 15 years (going back in 2013). And IASW is one of my favorite rides. Corny? Yes. But fun. And beautiful.

Can't wait to take my DGD on it.

I made a siggie if you wish to show off with pride your love for It's a Small World! Check out my OP.

:yay:

Love, love , love it. All time favorite. Saw it at the Worlds Fair in NY when I was 5. Holds a very dear place in my heart.

Count me in! I'll bring my caramelized baked brie to the next meeting!! I happen to love that ride, always have, and I too saw it when I was 7 at the NY Worlds Fair. It will always have a special place in my heart. My kids, however, HATE the "singing Chuckie dolls" and roll their eyes and scream in pain when I drag them on by the roots of their hair.

I love this ride, I could literally work an 8 hour shift here no problem! If there is ever a competition to see who can go the most times through consecutively, I'll join! :goodvibes

IASW was my favorite ride at WDW when I was a kid. I still like the ride now and have to go to it at least once each trip. There is so much to look at see and even after riding it 50+ times, I sometimes find see something new.

I'm in! We have always loved this ride. It's so happy. I have to admit, though, that I do like the one in Disneyland a bit better. They are both great, though.

I'm noticing a trend here . .. . seems most, if not all of the responders are of the female persuasion lol.

I guess I'll be the first guy to break the trend.
You missed by at least 3 posts!

My first wdw trip was in 2003 when my oldest dd was 5. We had a 9 month old also , Ella. I hated iasw. Our next trip wasnt til this past September when Ella was 3.

I knew our luck would be she would love it. And she did and immediately we knew we were riding it all week. We did. She asked to use it in every park.

After the second ride I fell in love with it. Sheer joy passed across her face as she rode that ride . She danced and sang and gasped at so many things. Her already huge blue eyes seemed to get even wider in amazement on iasw. Watching Ella thoroughly enjoy iasw changed my mind and I love it too. It was the last thing we rode that trip - 3 times in a row. By the last day the baby who had turned one that week (and also loved the ride dancing along with the dolls ) knew the routine and started to wave back to the ride operator above us.

These memories are what make me go back to wdw!

I'm in! IASW is MY favorite ride, probably not my kids' anymore, but they still like it and ride it with me. My 11 year old has been reading the Disney After Dark so is a LITTLE creeped out by that, which we enjoy teasing her about. I love everything about this ride, and usually ride it a couple times when we are there.

Having read the first book of the series with the oldest did make iasw more fun this time! I think we had her convince on a couple of rides on it. I even pinched her ankle to make her think a doll was biting her . It's the simple joys....;)

Love, love , love it. All time favorite. Saw it at the Worlds Fair in NY when I was 5. Holds a very dear place in my heart.

I didn't know that it was at the Worlds Fair!! That's very interesting!

I'd like to be a member too! I love this attraction and it's a must do every trip! My adult daughter grumbles when I drag her on more than once, but I know she enjoys it even though it's "not cool"! :)

I absolutely LOVE the IASW Appreciation Society logo. How do I get it in my signature? I NEED it - please - tell me - how do I do it?
