It's a Small World - Appreciation Society *50th Anniversary!*

I'm noticing a trend here . .. . seems most, if not all of the responders are of the female persuasion lol.

I guess I'll be the first guy to break the trend. I too love It's a Small World. It is Disney from a forgotten time, when there was a moral to everything. As others have said, no trip to the Magic Kingdom is complete without riding IASW at least .. . . .. 4 or 5 times lol (DD17 is obsessed with it)

LOVE IASW, it was a childhood favorite and still brings me back there.

The first time I took my DD on it I took a GREAT picture of her look of awe as she watched the dolls. She then leaned over to me and whispered "Mommy, this is awesome!" A memory I will never forget. :lovestruc

I will always love that ride, it's a must-do.

We love it and never miss -even the kids(teens) don't complain. Getting them on CoP is another story.

We love It's a small world on a hot summer WDW day - great place to sit and cool off - plus the song it fine with us. We also like Mary Blair, artist, of Its a small world after all !

Yes - I'd like to join the IASW Appreciation Club. Those dolls are just too cute! Actually, I was in high school band at the World's Fair during its debut. I will never forget it.

And - I'll never forget and will always love Carousel of Progress. We ride it each time we go to Disney. It's a Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow....I love that song!

Count me in!! :goodvibes

Its always the first and last ride I do on a trip as MK is always first and last day park. Plus other days in between, and yes I ride IASW as much as possible then too!!

My DD who is 3 is even getting to learn the song from the Disney CD I have in the car. She doesn't even know yet that we are coming to WDW, or really even have a concept of what a theme park is!! The song is just part of her (secret / undercover) training!!

Claire :)

I have a love for this ride that is legendary amongst those who have ever gone to WDW for me. It's a little ridiculous, has a decided lack of rationality and is unexplainable... lol.

I loved it my first visit, at 7, and it is still my favorite, at... well, a full-fledged grownup. My poor parents could go their whole life and never need to hear that song again, lol.

I have the poster, the coffee mug, and the t-shirt to prove it! ;)

Sign me up! It's a time honored tradition for me to INSIST that we go and for my (grown) kids and husband to moan, groan, complain and make fun the whole time. They wouldn't have it any other way.

I LOVE this ride, I could ride it mulitple times and it would not bother me one bit! DH always rolls his eyes at me when we get in line LOL

I'm IN, but only because I heard there were snacks involved. If someone points me to the crab dip, I'm in for life! :woohoo:
I make a mean spinach dip so I'll bring that to the next chapter meeting. Should we wear outfits from our favorite countries too? With a little duct tape and some spanx I think I might be able to fit in that Dirndl we have laying around the house....
:lmao::lmao: I'm in too:thumbsup2. It's just the classic Disney ride. Last trip, didn't ride it...... it didn't feel like a Disney trip:sad2:

Oh my gosh, if any ride screams Disney, it's Small World! It's so sweet and charming, and no matter what, always puts me in a good mood. I hate they did away with much of the singing throughout though; guess they'd heard too many complaints from the IASW party-poopers.

I'm in! IASW is MY favorite ride, probably not my kids' anymore, but they still like it and ride it with me. My 11 year old has been reading the Disney After Dark so is a LITTLE creeped out by that, which we enjoy teasing her about. I love everything about this ride, and usually ride it a couple times when we are there.

I love the song, I love the smell on the ride, I love how cool the air is as your in the boat....mostly, it just makes my heart a little happier after I get off the ride. :goodvibes And who couldn't use a bit more happiness!! ;)
^^^^This! It just makes my soul smile!

I agree whole-heartedly! I can't really explain why..... I just know that I feel better when I get out of the boat than when I got in. :goodvibes :cloud9:
Maybe, it's the whole ideal of world peace, truly a feel-good fantasy if ever there was one. :lovestruc
And I love the CM costuming.... Really cute! All the way from the hats to the socks. Best CM costuming in the park.

I love IASW! I was shocked when I came to learn people didn't like it, but when I first heard of the Disney parks when I was like 4 years old, that's the ride I was always seeing or hearing about, it quintessential Disney to me! My mom also adores that ride, so we went on it again for her. Something about seeing the different cultures and being on the boat with your family is pure magic

My whole family belongs here!!
My middle child is probably the most obsessed--I have been writing in my TR about her singing the song (several languages!) all over WDW and getting several compliments from adults! She's THREE! She also owns an array of IASW clothing and books, and she got her own CD for Christmas:thumbsup2.
My one year old is just starting to talk, but he says random syllables to the song--in tune! He also got a touch-and-feel IASW book for Christmas! I'm thinking of getting him the Toms shoes from Nordstroms, too. He is all smiles on that ride!
My oldest daughter (just turned six) likes it, but not with as much conviction as the younger two. She still loves to sing the song and requests it several times each visit. She also has a fun sticker activity book and loves to take pictures (no flash, of course!) throughout the ride.

Every time we get in the van, we have to repeat the song at least three times. Proof that I'm a fan? I LOVE it and never mind fulfilling that request!!

Yay, I posted this around lunch time and the responses at first were kinda slow (kinda like how the Dis has been the last couple days!!) But it WARMS my heart to see all the new members of the Appreciation Society!!! I knew we were out there.

While I agree I love the DL version the best, the WDW brings me smiles too. I grew up with DL, and IaSW is one of my earliest memories of being on a ride. I took my mom 2 years ago to WDW, and I cried like a baby riding with her on it. It has been so many years. She cried too. And let me tell you, come December if you hear a woman with her toddler wailing away, it will be me. I am going to be a sobby mess on that ride. hehe

A PP mentioned the CoP. I love that ride for many of the same reasons. Perhaps it needs it's own Appreciation Society too! :thumbsup2
