The only real question is whether or not their background check is more strigent than ours, and I don't know that it is. We don't have background checks on private party sales of used guns here (ALL new guns have been sold with a background check for nearly 2 decades), but the vast majority of private sellers would run a check on their buyers were they even allowed to. The president could sign an EO today to open the background check up to private party sales and I would support that. I do not support registration.
I'm curious - Why is registration a sticking point? Most of the gun owners I know feel the same way but I don't push the issue IRL so I don't really understand the opposition. It seems to me that registration is a fairly straightforward step that would help stem the flow of stolen and fraudulently purchased guns to the black market without infringing on the ability of law-abiding citizens to own firearms. At the very least it would enable better identification and prosecution of those individuals who purchase guns expressly to pass along to those who cannot pass a background check to buy for themselves.
