Issues upgrading tickets to AP

We purchased 2 8 day non hopper tickets from UT for $394.26. We entered MK on 7/2 did some attractions and went to Guest Relations in City Hall to upgrade. Gate price is $404.70. So the CM says she will only give me $325 credit for each ticket. I said no that is wrong. Then she said $365 because we bought them from UT and that is what they paid. I again said no that is wrong that we paid more than that and that after the tickets were used the price would be bridged to the current gate price. She said no. I asked if we could talk to someone else and she said no, she knows all about bridging and that is how it works and the price can't be changed. So I told her no thanks we will go elsewhere then she says to hold on and she will ask in the back. 10 minutes goes bye and I guess her supervisor comes out and says that they will make an "exception" and give me the gate price and that they will just absorb the cost. So obviously they can make the price whatever they want it to say. It almost seems like they are trying to crack down on people doing what I did. I guess it is up to the CM to decided whether or not they want to bridge the price and that there is no hard set rule. My guess is if we would have bought them directly from Disney before the price increase they wouldn't have wanted to honor the current pricing either. Thanks to everyone on here with the info I knew what "should" be done and in the end we did get our AP. Shame it had to come down to the back and forth and threaten to leave sisuation before they upgraded us. It's like buying a car. lol.

You encountered some power tripping CMs making up their own rules that don't jive with official policy. If you got their names, you should write an email and complain about them. The ticketing documentation clearly states that net rate and discounted tickets should be bridged to gate price prior to upgrading. (And it doesn't say a word about using them first, just to put that on the record again.)

PS: Tickets bought directly from Disney don't get bridged after a price increase, so if that HAD been the situation, they would have been right. (But it wasn't and they weren't.)

I thought (and do correct me if I'm wrong) that tickets bought as part of a package (from Disney obviously) would be bridged....

This is what I fear because this would annoy me. Not like we can say "well, I read on the Disboards..." Ugh.

When I upgraded my park tickets to AP (I had tickets from a Disney Package), I had to go to two or three different people until the price was the correct price. It was frustrating but I did eventually get it for the price I had expected to pay.

Package tickets can be bridged, yes. But standalone tickets directly from Disney can't. I think of package tickets as coming from WDTC because that's how I always see them. Sorry for not being clear in that part of my previous comment.

WOW.

Since I had the exact same thing happen a few years ago without the exception statement I am not sure you power trip is correct

I won't bother to do this again. The CMs I had also were not able to do this right.

And "my friend who works in ticketing"? Hmmm..... I would not go there. They might want a name

In my experience in a lot of these situations it's a power tripping supervisor/leader that's making the CM's enforce things incorrectly. Occasionally it's the CM. But most of the time it's the leaders pushing things they way they want them done.

So I haven't bought tickets from Disney in a while, usually buy them from UT or the like. So, would stand alone tickets from Disney be if I just bought my 8 day tickets only from Disney, not part of a package, since I'm renting DVC points? Then I wouldn't be able to upgrade those tickets/add on days? Or am I confused now, lol?

If you bought them directly from Disney you could upgrade them but they would not price bridge for you... But I'd just buy them from UT or ParkSavers.

Has anyone upgraded recently without issue? It seems at least on these boards that more people have issues than not. I'm not sure it's worth the aggravation if I have to battle with CMs on my vacation.

It's an Internet message board, people are far more likely to post when something goes wrong than when everything goes according to plan. I've upgraded several UT tickets to annual passes in the past few years. Only once did it take going to another GR location.

Probably a stupid question but how do I know what my ticket price is if I want to upgrade to AP.
Do I have to go into MDE and try to break it down from my package price? We are going later this year and want to upgrade our tickets to APs

I have upgraded every trip - either to add days and/or hoppers or upgrade to an AP. One trip there was 7 of us with different levels of ticket media (random days, some hoppers etc.) and I needed all 7 got be 10 day hoppers.

Of all my upgrades I only had problems with the AP, once. The expiry date was entered incorrectly, twice. The first time it had expired by the time we went from EPCOT to the MK. Then it was fixed to expire one year from the date I purchased the ticket- 6 months earlier. Finally it was changed to the first date I used the pass initially.

Just arm yourself with knowledge of what you should be paying, tell the CM you know what the difference is to upgrade and you hope they come up with the same number (factor in taxes). If they don't charge you the proper upgrade amount, move on to another Guest Relations outlet. I've had the best luck at AK and DHS.

I have the exact same situation. We are upgrading Disney free dining package tickets to an AP. I was under the impression we would only get the "discounted" price of the tix. Sounds like we should get bridged though which is good news! (On a side note , Mousesavers.com lists out the full ticket prices)

You only have to go to the Disney website and look at the current ticket prices. For example, if you currently have a five day park hopper and you want to upgrade to an annual pass, then you look at the current price for each of them. The amount of money you would pay to upgrade will be the difference between the current price of the first ticket and the current price of the second one.
