If they are poly points you may get the extra booking time once they open.
I believe this is what happened to those that owned VGF when Big Pine Key opened.

If that is the case hopefully you should be able to get in. That extra bathroom for 4 adults and 2 littles will be a game changer in the tower 1 bedroom.
They are Poly points. Bought right before the resales shot up lol.

My curiosity was those that might have experience from the VGF expansion but I also feel that this will be more popular then that was.

NEED HELP!

We currently have Poly Lakeview for Jan 25- Feb 2. This will be first time staying with our DVC points. We only get down once a year and have some more points. We are thinking of coming a day sooner and getting a SSR 1BR for a night and enjoy the springs. (never stayed at SSR)
BUT my other hope is when the tower opens for point bookings we would be able to switch our poly room to the tower for a 1BR the last 2-3 nights (depending on point chart)
Full Disclosure: I am traveling with my wife, sons 4 and 1, and mother in law and father in law. Studio I feel like is going to be TIGHT.
Just gotta throw this out there - that's a LOT of people to fit comfortably in what is essentially a hotel room if you've not done it before. And Disney is magical, but everyone is usually also maxed out tired. We do another theory when too full of a room - put two adults (in your case in-laws) up a the cheapest nearby hotel but add them to the Disney room in name only (for pool and room access during the day and free car parking). They arrived every morning refreshed and happy to start again. No, their room was not as "nice" but it was all theirs. If they hate the cheap hotel, you can usually cancel the next day and move them in with you ;)

I was thinking the exact same thing. Staying in 1 bedrooms has completely spoiled me for life.

I lived with them for 9 months while my house was being built so I think I can survive a week at the most magical place on earth. We do want to check out the new tower and wouldn't mind a night or two there so was just trying to gauge the likelihood. Also if my reservation can be knocked back to 5 nights instead of 8.

So my question for you DVC veterans...
What are the chances of actually getting a room at the tower for the end of January with points? If not likely the extra day at SSR is a no brainer to me.
Additionally, if I call, will they modify my 8 nights stay at OG Poly to 5 nights and then 3 nights at the tower?

Not so patiently waiting for this chart....
Just wanted to add a couple details that others haven't mentioned.

Only 10 2BR lockoffs were declared. Depending how Disney decides to allow booking for them will have an impact on supply. It could be 5 2BR lockoffs, 5 1BR, and 5 Studios. For comparison sake, there are 360 longhouse studios.

While we don't know the tower point charts for certain, there are some good educated guesses earlier in the thread. We know the cash prices for a longhouse standard view studio (288 of these) is the exact same as the cash price for a tower standard view studio. Cash price for a longhouse lagoon view studio (72 of these) is the exact same as the cash price for a tower preferred view studio. Tower lagoon view studios have higher cash prices. Mentioning this because the view needed for the change could be a higher jump than your points may go. Only you know the answer.

Another potential option to throw out there. Depending on what points and availability. If you find no 1BRs available, you might be able to keep the longhouse studio and book a duo studio. Depending on point charts, tower duo studio + studio may not be much higher than a 1BR? Again, only you will know if you have the points and whether it's something your family would be comfortable with.

Those are some good points. I am thinking the studios in the tower will be same points at longhouses like they did with VGF and would think 1BR points will be comparable to VGF or RIV but who knows. Duos I think will go very fast.

This comment really piqued my interest. I have always thought that all lockoffs were bookable as either a lockoff or a studio + 1BR… but that once either a studio or 1BR was booked, then one 2BR lockoff disappeared from inventory. Has Disney previously separated lockoffs so only some are available to be booked as 2BRs and some only as separate 1BRs/studios? Or is this a current/common practice that I’ve somehow missed until now?

Yes you are correct. I think the PP was meaning that 5 2 bed lockoffs were booked there would only be 5 of each studio and 1 bedrooms to book.

Wish I had your luck!! The only upgrade for us was for a tower studio to a normal studio.
It was a blessing and a curse! It's hard to go back to smaller rooms, shared public hot tubs, and no personal electric boat parade. You will notice a CCV banner in my signature...it wasn't there before we got bumped! 🤣🤪

It will be like winning the lottery to get through on the phone lines when booking opens, lots of busy signals and call failures and you will have to just keep redialing over and over until you get through. That's how it was when VDH booking opened. Book something now that you are ok with as your backup plan. Then try to call in on Day One and hopefully you'll get through early enough to get the 1BR. Member Services will happily shorten your existing stay to free up the points and book the tower for you. May the force be with you!

I saw they were doing 4 1-bedrooms and 14 studios on top of the 10 lock-offs so would this be the potential for 14 1-bedrooms and 24 studios?

Oh gosh, I somehow didn't realize that existing members are going to have to call in to book for that initial period...that is gonna be a stressful morning.😖

I have a question about waitlists. Let's say I try to book a room type that exists, but the only "free" ones are not yet declared by the time I get through to book. If I waitlist (let's assume I'm #1 on that waitlist), and that room type is part of a subsequent declaration, once it becomes available, it should be automatically assigned as part of waitlist fulfilment, right? Like, there isn't anything special about newly declared waves, is there? Assuming, of course, it isn't already booked for a cash stay.

I think you’re approach on the front part of the vacation is correct. Saratoga Springs is an awesome resort especially if you’re gonna go to a waterpark (for free starting in January!) on your arrival day and/or maybe go out to dinner at Disney Springs. We own at PVB, but stayed at SSR once and absolutely loved it since it as a non-park trip for us.

As far as getting a 1 bedroom at PVB is concerned….your best bet is to be flexible on your dates. There are no guarantees you'll have the fastest hand at 8am EST when booking opens. Being flexible on your dates may help to open up options for you. In addition, and I know this has been brought up already, but I would personally consider a 1 bedroom or a 2 bedroom for the rest of your trip even if it means booking at another resort (depending on how many points you have of course). Personally, I'd rather stay for 5-6 nights in a 1 or 2 bedroom at the less point heavy resorts (SSR, OKW, AKL, or BWV) than stay for 8 nights in a Poly studio with 4 adults and 2 young kids. And this is coming from someone who loves the Poly studios as I feel they are plenty spacious for you, your wife, and 2 kids....but adding the in-laws to the mix could definitely make that feel pretty cramped over the course of 7-8 nights. Just my 2 cents.
