Is this common?

We sail Saturday and we got an email today saying that “Our Palo Brunch is overbooked and they are moving us from Monday to Sunday.”

Is this common???

I have never heard of this. I would contact the cruise line by phone to confirm this. I would also let them know what will happen if this conflicts with other activity's you may have already booked and might not want to change.

How can it be overbooked when they normally hold slots back for onboard booking on embarkation day? I wonder if some VIP group muscled their way in?

In all my years sailing DCL and being on this board, I don't think I've ever heard of this happening.

That seems really odd. It sounds like you are getting bumped for someone they consider a VIP, or for concierge, because they should know how many slots they have to fill at the time of booking. You booked that particular day for a reason, it was rude to bump you without calling and asking first.

I posted it first on the facebook group for our cruise and two other people replied they got the same message. One was moved and one was canceled.

Also - we sail this Saturday and we can't get into our "Activities" on the App or the actual website from a PC.

You need to call DCL and make it clear that you do not appreciate what they did. Request to be moved back.

When you board, make sure you speak to the Dining Manager/Palo Manager/Guest Services Manager to express your displeasure.

Best case scenario is they move you back and comp it.
Worst case scenario is they blow smoke up your caboose and do nothing.
Or anything in between.

While I would also be very annoyed at this, I probably would not try to get my original reservation back as long as the change didn't mess up some of my other critical plans. If some VIP group muscled their way in, which is what this sounds like, with no regard for whomever they displaced - would you really want to share brunch time with them? You might have a better experience on the replacement day. Just my thoughts. :-)

But I am sorry this happened to you. No one wants to start their vacation on a sour note.

Yeah this sounds not cool at all. Hope it works out, OP. I have a brunch and dinner strategically booked on specific days for Palo and I'd hate for them to be adjusted without my prior consent.

I've never heard of this.. does the new day and time even work for you?

What castaway level are you?
We are Platinum. In all of the cruises we have been on I have never heard of this happening. This would not happen to be a Western Caribbean with a stop at Cozumel on Monday? They usually only do brunch on sea days.

ACTUALLY I WANTED THE CHANGED TO DAY/TIME TO START WITH! Hope it stays true.

Yes - It is Western - Monday Cozumel. That's why I wanted Sunday and it filled up fast.

So my next question would be when did they start doing brunch on a port day? We have done eleven seven day cruises and have never seen brunch offered on a port day in the past. Is this something new they may be doing due to the fact brunch does fill up fast?

Don't have it on our cruise coming up. Sounds like they bumped all the "peons" to put some big time VIPs or media in the brunch like someone else said.

I'm glad the change actually works out better for you. I think they should give everyone some small pixie dust though, I imagine for some people it may not work. Glad it works for you.
