Is there such a thing as *TOO MUCH* planning?

Thank you all so much for the responses!!!!! It's showing that I'm *NOT* overplanning at all!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm just trying to decide what's best for us. It's not like I'm saying, "We're going to ride this 1st and then this and then this." I'm just figuring what park for what day and where to eat that my kids will eat at on the DDP. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!

Chill--Loved your response!!!!

DW considers Disney two vacations - the planning and the actual trip.

Wow ! I thought I was the only one who had that view!

We're not going until next October and I've already started my Excel Spreadsheet! :surfweb:

Dh just asked tonight "Is it really necessary to drool over menus for a trip that is a year away?"

I give him the look of 'Are you kidding me?'

Then he asks: "You haven't made dining reservations yet, have you?"

Me: "no silly, those have to be made 180 days out."

DD pipes up: "But she does know which parks we will be in each day!"

Shhhh! LOL
:wizard:

My philosophy on planning is: I provide the framework within which dh is free to go with whatever he wants to do when he wants to do it.
We go to the park I plan, have dining res made, know when the shows, parades, and fireworks are, and in between we do whatever we feel like doing at the time.

All of my planning paid off when we got to be the family who opened MGM due to getting up early, being there before opening and wearing our spiffy matching t-shirts. :cool1:
I asked dh "How much do you love me now?" He was pretty pleased. LOL

we really dont plan much, we dont do alot of ahead reservations for dinner, i could not plan that far. we just go easy, of course my youngest is getting older so its easier. but def. dont overplan, relax and enjoy everything.

Hey, my trip isn't until June 2008 and I am ALWAYS reading up on things. So my answer is no. Cuz if I say yes, I'm in trouble...lol! Yeah, I'm already working on what parks to go on what days!

My Excel spreadsheet and I feel totally vindicated. As I yell that to the next room to the DW.

This is the most gratifying thread. Every time I take a look, total relief.

Where is the "Share your Spreadsheet" thread???

I've been reading up on posts here and also have the Unofficial Guide book. Dh said to me last night, "You know you're going to be let down b/c you're reading too much on this." Did anyone ever feel this way? I just want to be prepared, although I will completely follow my kids' cues on what to do and where to go. We will be there for such a small amt of time, I want to make the most of it. So, is there such a thing as too much planning when going to WDW?? :confused3

I think there is such a thing as too much planning, but I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

I've had times when I've spent so much time reading the UG and posts here, that I've worked myself up into an excited frenzy and have crashed. I've had to take "Dis breaks" where I avoided the Dis for a couple of days so that I don't spend every waking moment thinking about my upcoming trip.

However, regardless of how much planning you do, I don't think you'll be let down with your trip. That is, as long as you keep realistic about it. WDW is wonderful, but it's not a utopia and things may go wrong. A ride may break down, you may not be able to get to the parks at the time you want, etc.

All in all, you should have a great time! Have fun!

I read the unofficial guide front to back, frequented these boards all the time and scoured the internet for info. I was surprised when I got there how much I didn't know or had forgotten, but what I did know in no way "let me down". In fact, I would say I got more enjoyment from knowing those special little tips and tricks.

Planning is SOOO important; I spend ages planning to avoid crowds and have the best time; my family think I'm obsessed! The thing is that they haven't had to endure an unplanned visit (as I did the first time I went) and experience how awful that can be............. ;)
