Is there a purpose to all the water around disney world at this point?

Some seem to be missing my point and intentionally so.
When i see water , I'd like to swim in it or fish in it or water ski in it. Not just look at it. I've seen water before.
If they wanted to reopen the River Country water park, they could not as the water quality is not sufficient for that purpose. same with swimming and water sports.If they wanted to do a sub ride, water quality wouldn't allow that either. Do SOMETHING with that space is my point. If SOME of it has to be water, then put on a fountain show like they do at the bellagio in las vegas. Or put on a pirate show like they had at TI in Vegas. Or put in some gondolas like Venice.
And get the gators out. if people want to see gators, they can go to gator land or go to the everglades.
The original plans had this water designed serving many functions and that has been lost over the years.

And I think you are missing our points and honestly you don't understand.

- The water is not for YOU and your activities. What they used to have were perks.
- The water is about water management and ecosystem protection.
- The state of Florida is a different animal when it comes to these things.
- Water fountains, pirate shows .......... do nothing to help the above and are not serene scenery.
- This is not Vegas and let's hope it never is.
- Gators out ............... impossible unless Disney World is put inside a giant bubble.
- Gators out ............... kinda like trying to eliminate birds, rabbits, ducks, snakes ........
- The original plans ...................... were for water management. What came with that were perks.
- If you are interested in going somewhere with more water activities, WDW is not that place.

They could reopen River Country if they wanted to. They do water sports in that lake. People swim in lakes like that in Florida all of the time. There are gators in those lakes as well.

You know I was just thinking to myself the MK view from the Contemporary Resort just doesn't overlook quite enough vehicles. Problem solved! Who needs a useless lagoon? I mean if I can't wade in water might as well just drain the thing anyways. I wonder how much Disney will charge for these new premium parking spots.

This is not Vegas!. A child wanted to play and it came to a tragic end. That does not mean we rid WDW of water. Be serious.

What's the point of something pretty to look at if it has no recreational purpose? Is every square inch of your yard/lawn in constant use as a recreational sports arena?

Yeah just like those useless Geysers and hot springs in Wyoming. You can't swim in them it's too hot, you can't go near them the fumes would kill you, you can't walk on them it's forbidden, and they smell like rotten eggs .... Yeah right, let's tear down Yellowstone and build a giant mall with a fun spot america in the back. Oh, and make sure there's a walgreens in that mall. I'd like to be able to have my water pictures printed...

There's been plenty of threads on here explaining getting in the water in Florida is not smart,gators,snakes,and brain eating amoebas when the lakes get warm being some of the issues,I live here and I choose the waterparks when I want water activities.You even have to be careful in the beaches,did you know New Smyrna beach is the shark bite capital of the world!!As far as the gators,you can't get them out,its a natural area,you could try and remove them but in the end you will never get them all out.The lakes and waterways get plenty of use of with all the boats shuttling people between parks,resorts and Disney springs.The reason all those watersports were shown in a 1986 Disney guide is that back then the resort was a lot smaller with fewer things to do,showing people water skiing was a bigger deal then than it would be today.People back then also had fewer concerns and were more ignorant to things like the brain eating amoeba in the lake.In all honesty draining the Disney lakes and putting in a parking lot is the most wacky nu nu thing I've heard on these boards.

The water can still provide beauty and ambience without being recreational. You can't boat or swim in the water around the central hub in MK but its still a vital part of the park imho. So yes it most definitely serves a purpose.

The Seven Seas Lagoon is as much a part of MK as the Monorail or the front entrance...it's legendary.

I think you'll understand that once you realize things aren't purposeful just because they serve YOU specifically. Should we get rid of all the green space in WDW, because you can't use it to golf or sunbathe on?

What keeps them off the beaches also blocks their path to the water. So where will they end up? Perhaps outside the door to your resort? Or maybe lumbering up Main Street USA? Standing behind your car in the parking lot? Finding their way to the food carts and exposed restaurants? Again, to calm people they have knee jerked their way into building a fence around the lagoons, with no real thought about what will happen and where nature will go to feed themselves. It looks like a way to keep nature out of the populated areas, but, it equally will keep them in and hungry. Do the math!

These fences change absolutely nothing from the gators perspectives.

Two or maybe three summers ago we were on the ferry going to MK. It was kind of late morning, very hot, very humid, and very very crowded. There was a little boy next to us complaining to his Dad about the ride, asking why you can't just walk to MK from the car. The Dad said, "well we're going to the MAGIC kingdom, and you can't just walk all the way to a magical kingdom. You have to take a journey to get there, and getting there is half the fun." The kid accepted the answer and I don't know why, but his words stuck with me. Getting to MK by boat, ferry, or monorail always seems to build more anticipation for my family than taking the bus or walking over from the Contemporary (although at the end of the day, that walk is GREAT lol). I think for some people the boats and the ferries on the water do add to the whole experience, and plus can you imagine what Disney would charge for parking spots that close? I don't even want to think about it.
