Is there a brig and morgue on board?

Being picky, perhaps, but most formal dictionary level definitions of "brig" refer to them being areas of confinement or detention aboard military vessels. There really is no other consistently used term that applies to a similar area on a civilian vessel.

As example, about two thirds of the way through the movie "Titanic," when Rose is desperately searching for Jack (after he has been falsely arrested), she asks Thomas Andrews (the builder of the ship) "where would a prisoner being held on the ship be taken?" He responds "the Master at Arms Office." The latter was in essence a somewhat archiac 18th century term for the senior security officer on board, and the term for the ship's "jail" was his office (there was no "brig.")

Bottom line: cruise lines want to avoid anything that positions them as being frightening/intimidating, so in all likelihood, the "detention" areas on board the Magic and Wonder are (a) buried where no one other than a handful of approved staff has access to them and (b) labeled something other than "the brig." Maybe it's called "The Castaway Cooler"....or "Pegleg Pete's Pen"..... or "Horace Horsecollar's Hoosegow".....or "Bambi's Big House" or.... :teeth:

On a related subject...sort of...I worked on an island in Lake Erie, Put-In-Bay, one summer. The only way to get on or off was by plane or ferry. I guess someone had a heart attack and died in the middle of the night, and life flight wouldn't pick up someone if they were deceased and the ferries weren't running, so they put his body in the cooler w/ the kegs overnight. Pretty creepy. I think about that everytime I go to that bar now!

Hmm, who do you think has the best brig and morgue? :confused3

HAL's Morgue should be bigger since, as heaven's waiting room at sea, there are more potential customers likely to fill it. :cloud9:
Carnival's Brig should be bigger because after all, its the FUN Ship. :crazy2:

BUT only on a Disney ship could one potentially get thrown in the Brig with Goofy and have their final resting place be a casket lined with hidden mickey's. :woohoo:

Can anyone on this board please post their positive experiences with the DCL brig? :stir:

(Even I'm not bad/sarcastic enough to ask for positive experiences with the Morgue)

My m-i-l is always nervous when we go on a cruise and says she wouldn't go because she is afraid of the water or terrorists. Every time, I tell her, if I'm going to die, that's the best way to do it...while having fun! :confused3

That's scary. Stop reading my mind! :earseek:

Speaking of security, I thought I read somewhere about stateroom arrest for teen drinking. How the heck do they enforce that? Anybody know?

Or perhaps "Dewey's Dungeon"? "Hades' Hopper"? "Tink's Tank"?

The morgue may well be known as "Mortimer's Mortuary"

A CM emailed me and said there is indeed a morgue on board. In fact it is so nice, that people are just dying to get in!!!

I used to work for Delta Queen Steamboat co. and most of our patients....oops...passengers were elderly.

One time this lady died walking to her cabin for the first time. She just sat down at a table near the hall and died peacefully. I always felt bad that she never even got to see her room or enjoy the first night's meal. At least we hadn't left the dock yet, but ...

We always were so close to shore that the captain or pilot could call the local ambulance company and dock the boat and they would come get the body and their traveling companion. One of the purser's alway went along to sort things out and be supportive. Some of these "kids" had never seen death before...it was tough for them.

Further more.... If the deceased was unfortunate to have passed while in shorts, would you be required to redress them in a suit or gown for formal night?

Can you apply travel insurance for the part of the cruise after you expire?

Is the deceased still responsible for gratuities?

Can you just use the deceased to save you a deck chair?

Does the horn's whistle play something else when someone passes?

If you ever get seasick, you will wish you were in the morgue..

Two stages of sea sickness: 1) You think your going to die 2). You wish you were dead..

Oh gosh ya seasickness and motion sickness - eeeekkk :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:
I had motionsickness very bad when flying to the midwest last summer - and I got seasick on my last day of the Disney cruise in 2003. EEEEEkkk

Actually three stages Dr. Cravin, Number three...You would have to get better to die!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
