I had a GV at OKW reserved next week for a five day weekend. 248 points, had to cancel it today, holding account, for the first time ever.

These points are going to expire in Sept, the only time between xmas and Sept that I would go to WDW is Jan or maybe Feb. All these points, no time to use them, fresh off my AKL concierge stay, I figure a weeknd in Jan will burn some of these points, get me back and we will even just make it me and the wife.

I call for any availability in any monorail hotel concierge, first choice GF, Cont, second....the only Fri and Sa nights available in Jan is 10,11 Poly, 24,25 poly.....AKL also had 24,25, Dolphin had all dates.

Is the Poly the worst of all concierge areas?

I thought this was interesting, all hotels had all other classes of rooms available. I was shocked to find out that the concierge sells out first like this....and people wonder why it is so expensive, well its their own darn fault, if they didn't book concierge so much, it wouldn't be so expensive!!!!

Why is the Poly the only concierge available? Is it the least desirable?

We have only stayed at the BC Concierge and the Poly Concierge. Both were excellent. I couldn't say one negative thing about the service or food at either one of them. We preferred the Poly only because the sodas and bottles of water were out for the taking and you didn't have to ask. Also, there was an empty refrigerator in your room at the Poly and a stocked (for a price) refrigerator at the BC.

We didn't like the BC because of the room size for five (2 adults and 3 teens). It was a closet compared to the spacious room and wonderful view at the Poly. Also, our water view room at the BC was entirely blocked by trees. We couldn't see one drop of water.

We loved the Poly Con this summer. We took our amazing desserts & coffee out to the beach in the evening and watched the EWP and the FW from MK. They do have bottled water and soda for the taking all day. I can't compare to anything else though. Go to Tikiman's site for all the info on the Poly - http://tikiman2001.homestead.com/

Happy planning!

Rich, we stayed at the Poly Concierge this past august before our OKW stay and LOVED it!! Absolutely would stay there again in a hearbeat. The CMS were wonderful and really everything about it was near perfect. The only thing I can think of as to why there is availabilty is that the rooms are starting to show some "wear", they are starting a major rehab on the Hawaii building (concierge) next summer so maybe some people are hesitant to stay there thinking that rehab will start soon, they don't realize it isn't starting until next summer. I know what you mean, we have never had to cancell a trip using points since 1991 either, but I'm sure you will have a great time no matter where you stay.

Good Luck and Have a Wonderful Trip!!!

We have stayed at the Poly concierge and AKL concierge. I liked the AKL a little better. Part of the reason was the atmosphere of the resort. Even as a BWV owner, I must say AKL is my favorite resort as far as theming. OK, well maybe it's tied with BWV! I liked the food selection better at AKL than I did at the Poly, and found the staff to be friendlier. The biggest plus at the Poly was the view. IMO, there is no greater view in all of WDW. We watched the MK fireworks and water parade from our balcony, and had the view of the castle changing colors all night long. For that reason alone, I would stay at the Poly again! I also like the way they had the pop cans out and that you did not have to ask a CM for a soft drink. And of course, you have the convenience of the monorail.

We thought the Poly was fine and I don't think you would be disappointed there. We just happen to like AKL better. Good luck and sorry you had to cancel your GV!!

One thing I want to note Rich, is that the Poly has BY FAR the most concierge rooms on the monorail. The GF Concierge rooms offered by DVC are in the main building, and they are only the regular ones, I believe there are only 30 - 40 regular concierge rooms in the main building. At the Contemporary, there I believe the concierge rooms offered by DVC are on the 14th floor, again limited number of rooms, similiar in number to the GF. The Poly has Approx 50 - 55 LV concierge rooms, the rooms that DVC books, there are also the same number of GF concierge rooms at the Poly, and those usually go first, since they are less expensive. I've stayed at both the Poly and the GF RPC, and I prefer the Poly. It's more relaxing and more informal, both plusses in my book. I hope you have a good time and enjoy the Poly, it is a wonderful hotel!!!

We love the Poly concierge. Friendly and helpful staff, good food, beautiful presentation, large rooms, beautiful view, convenient to MK and Epcot, and sooo relaxing. I hope you enjoy it.

My biggest worry is getting there. Gotta dump the kid with someone, get the wife to leave work and then drive almost four hours. I am hoping to make dinner at 8:00 that Friday.

I am not really concerned about it not being as good as AKL concierge, nothing really could be. I just thought it was interesting that my research before my AKL concierge stay kind of pointed to BWI concierge being worst with the Poly a close second, and then I go to make reservations on short notice and the only availibility was really at the Poly.

Kind of makes me think the Poly is not that desirable.

I know we will have a great time. We have never stayed there before, only actually were on Poly property once for the Luou, it was real beautiful, I am sure the resort and monorail will make up for any shortcoming compared to the AKL.

Maybe the reason GF & Contemp are full at the concierge level has more to do with those hotels being convention hotels with space to accommodate large numbers. Just a thought. . .

As to Polynesian being the least desirable of the services. . .I think not. . .and we've made the rounds.

I read somewhere that Poly concierge was rated the number one concierge in DW!! All I've read about it seemd very positive.
I hope to try it someday as it was my families favorite resort. I was out voted by my husband and son and grandson over AKL which I liked. It is also more expensive though. Maybe the cost of concierge is what makes people reserve it less.

I've stayed at the Poly, GF, AKL, BWI and YC concierge floors, and the Poly is number 2 in my book, the only one better is the AKL. We spent three nights at the Poly precruise this summer, and found the concirege folks to be absolutely WONDERFUL, the rooms are large and spacious, and brighter than I ahd expected. In fact the only complaint we had was the noise in teh hallsways from unescorted kids--but that seems to be an ongoing problem at many WDW resorts. And it was still quieter than the AllS tars.

We really did love the AKL concierge. We were just there three weeks ago. I wanted to try something different and staying at the Poly has always been something I wanted to try. Never stayed in a monorail resort before.

I know I am going to come back having thoroughly enjoyed everything about it, but I get this feeling that I am right and it is going to be a noticable step down from the AKL.....just hope its not too big of a step.

We have a dear friend who only stays Poly Conscierge. We have had the pleasure of visiting her there and seeing first hand what she loves about it. I would never hesitate to stay there. Everything we saw was first rate.:D

We've tried GF and AKL, but we always return to the Poly Concierge. Gorgeous view, great staff, excellent rooms, EASE of getting to the parks via boat, monorail, or bus. We've stayed at Poly Concierge 6 times (always view of the castle) - couldn't ask for a better place!!
