Is the Magic in trouble??

I only see Disney listed once (for Salmonella) in all of those years on that CDC site, which is odd. I was on the Dream last week and there was a stomach virus going around. My son got it, and it definitely seemed like norovirus.

We are on The DREAM right now and we have NOT moved for 3 hours. We are justing sitting here in the ocean. We have no idea what is going on NO word from the bridge. What's up with that?? HUM......

If I'm not mistaken this the "Day at Sea" on the Dream. On Nov 16th we only moved 1 knot basically doing a circle because the seas were VERY clam that day. So it might be normal.

We have NOT moved an inch in 3+ hours - not engine power at all. I have been on 30+ cruises and have never been just sitting in the middle of the ocean with NO forward motion at all knots listed on the bridge report is 0

Your right! The ship is getting OLD ! Some cruise lines sell them .....
More things happen as these ships age, just normal !

I noticed this on my last few cruises....whereas at one time the captains would at least slightly move the boats on sea days....now it seems like they just park. certainly burns less fuel that way.

The poster was refferring to the Dream. Shes just over a year old. A baby in ship years.

That's how they did it on our sea day on the Dream last month. It struck me as strange, but we moved just fine when we had somewhere to go!

Marine Traffic is showing the magic sailing at 21 knots last updated 13 minutes ago.

If the seas are good...on sea days...not using forward motion saves $$$$$$$
Not uncommon....I've seen that on the Dream and the magic over the years.

A server on the Magic posted that the ship was really rocking on Sunday night.

I was on the Magic last year in the Mediterranean on the Aug 28th sailing and the entire boat lost power I think on the 2nd night (going to Tunisia). It happened around 3am and the only reason I woke up is because we were on the deck 2 close to the engine room and when all the power went out, you could really notice. I dont recall any emergency lights going on in the cabin but the captain came on the speaker and explained that we had lost power but the engineers were working on it.......yes, at 3am.

I dont know how common of an occurrence this is nowadays but I felt uneasy about being stuck in the middle of the Med without power. Hopefully this gets remedied soon! :worship:

Us to....on the Dream 11/12/11 cruise we stood still in the water all night and most of the sea day. We started moving when we were heading back to PC. Just sat in the water all day. It did not bother me but I did notice this was different than all our other cruise where we did have some forward motion.

Here is a pic I took at night of the lights that come out from the ship underwater.....normally when the ship is moving you can't distinguish the pattern of the lights but here you can plainly see them as we are not moving at all.

These are views looking straight down from our verandah to the water....

The view looking aft down to the water......

I think they do it to save on fuel....can't think of any other reason.

As Truck 1 noted the Dream is a Baby.

The magic is just bearly reaching middle aged..............A cruise ship easily go 30 + years.

I am sorry, I am not sure if I missed something. Isn't a sea day not being tied up to a Peir and in the ocean? So I am confused as why it makes a difference if the ship is moving or not?
