My Mom and I LOVE clam bakes. We normally have one every year here in Colorado but this year we were unable to do it.

I told my mom about Cape May and were are really excited. But is it any good???? We are going with a larger group and many don't eat seafood - so it the regular part good too?

Let me know what you think :)

Hi,

We ate at the Cape May Clambake last May and it was by far the best buffet of our trip. We are not seafood eaters so I can't comment about that but there was tons of other stuff to eat as well. The ribs were to die for! It is definitely a good choice!

Oh I am glad to see someone else is asking this question as well. We have ADR at Cape May for Thanksgiving dinner and we are also wondering about the clam bake. DH and DD are big mussel and peel and eat shrimp fans and from what limited info we have found online it looks like they have a good selection of non-seafood as well. We are hoping the seafood is of a better quality then you tend to find at your standard run of the mill Asian buffet.

I am REALLY looking forward to it. I was just on the phone with my mom and telling her what last years menu says.

Thanks for the help.

I would love to hear even more.

Nicole - I hope you enjoy your trip in November :) That is one of my favorite times to go too. We are trying January this time. No holiday lights but hopefully mild weather anyway :)

Don't want to be a downer, but in all honesty... we ate there one week ago tonight for dinner and weren't impressed at all. The steamers were really littleneck clams and they were very tough. Same for the mussels. The clam chowder was very good, and the rest of the buffet was standard WDW buffet food.. not great, but not horrible, either. We are glad we tried it because we were staying at the BC and had never eated there before, but we won't be going back any time soon.

My DH is from Connecticut, so he knows his seafood. Cape May is his absolute favorite Disney restaurant. He can eat his weight in clams and mussels. We got at least once, if not twice, every trip.

Agreed. It was really poor quality. We are from NY and by now mean seafood experts but we knew that the clam bake here at Cape May was substandard.. Avoid this one!

We just ate there last week.... It was WONNNEDERFUL!!!

Probably my most favourite meal of our trip... and we had lots of excellent meals! The melted tomato butter that they serve with the clams is to die for, and there were these small round chocolatey lookink desserts that were the best! There is an Oreo suprise inside! Oh, and the roast beef was the best I have ever tasted!!

I would reccomend the Cape May Clam Bake for sure! Enjoy!

even though it is the small clams...I can eat about 6 buckets worth and then some.:thumbsup2

My family makes a point to eat there every time we go to Disney. And my DH who is non-seafood eater also enjoys it, since there is plenty of other type of food.

DH and I love that buffet - and DH is quite fussy about buffets. They have plenty of non-seafood items on it. Enjoy!

We are from New Orleans, so the seafood was not good at all, the clams were sooooo tough and not flavorful at all.

The regular food was regular food - nothing special, but ok.

Not worth the wait or money if you want good food.

Sorry!

We love Cape May for dinner. We have reservations there for our upcoming trip. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere is relaxing and happy. :goodvibes

Another thumbs up here :thumbsup2

We have been there twice before and will be going again during our October trip.

We have eaten there a few times and I agree it is one of the better buffets. My dh is actually from Cape May, so he likes going just for the name ;)

This was the first place I ever tried clams and mussels and LOVED them. They have plenty of non-seafood type items to keep the other members of your party happy and I absolutley loved their desserts!!

I will say that just like any buffet, the lines can get really crazy and it can be hit or miss, just like any place else. We have only been once when it was just not very good.

We like to park @ the BW and take the friendship boats over, then walk back and enjoy the night!!

We liked the food, but the buffet was always empty! They would finally bring out some clams or mussels or something, you would wait on the line AGAIN to get them, and it would be empty again. Wasn't worth it for me. I didn't like having to wait on the buffet line multiple times. If they would have kept it well stocked, we would have enjoyed it more. We are not going there this trip, but mostly because we have so many other places to try, and not enough days to try them all!

I had read that earlier in the summer they had crab legs on the buffet as a tester. Can anyone confirm if they are still there or not?

Those are called Oreo Bonbons and they are the reason I go to the Cape May clambake. The rest of the buffet is, IMO, great as well, but it is the Oreo bonbons that get me in the door.

If you'd like to make them at home you can find the recipe here...

1) The Cape May buffet ranges from poor to good.
2) The quality varies greatly.
3) I would recommend the Garden Grove Buffet at the Swan.
4) Their Fisherman's Wharf nights even have crab legs on the buffet.
