is The Cape May Clam Bake Any Good?

We were there in June. I am not a seafood eater but DH is. Both of us thought it was average food. It probably didn't help that we had a poor server.

There weren't any last week when we dined there.

I think the crab legs are only served when they have the higher "holiday pricing". We were there the first week of June and they had them, but it was $4/extra per person.

1) Crab legs at Cape May was ONLY a trial.
2) They wanted to see if they could still make money with them on the buffet.
3) The month-long trial was cut short by two weeks.
4) People just pigged-out on them.
5) So goes the profit margin.
6) There has been not decision whether to bring them back, again.
7) We need to wait and see.
8) Talk about people killing the golden goose by greed.
9) To paraphrase the comic strip hero, POGO, "We have met the DDP enemy and it is us."

NOTE: Fortunately, ther Garden Grove buffet at the Swan still has crab legs on the buffet during their Fisherman's Wharf nights.

Not all of us are DPPers. ;)
My belief only, not all DPPers are "pigging out."
Looked up your fav-Garden Grove. Seafood is only two nights out of the entire week. The night we'd be dining they're offering Bar-B-Que. Yee ha...:rotfl: We'll stick with Cape May.
Here's the link for Garden Grove, though, in case someone wants to know the details/days on their rotating themes for their buffets:

We have eaten at Cape May Buffet many times. Can honestly say we have never had a bad meal there. Over the years, they have adjusted some of the non-seafood items, they used to have the most wonderful beef tips, and prime rib but those items haven't been there for a while.
You will find from reading many of the threads dealing with Cape May Buffet that most New Englanders or people from coastal regions don't think it is very good for the clams and mussels, etc...... and that is fine. ;) I'm sure they have ample access to great seafood at home. Being "landlocked" we find the seafood offerings to be pretty good. I prefer the small clams that they serve at Cape May, if they were any bigger, I couldn't eat them.
You will find that there is a decent variety of food and everyone in your party should find something to their likeing.
We'll be dining there next Thursday, and I can't wait.:goodvibes

We ate there in April over spring break. I really enjoyed it ... we got there right when they opened and everything was really hot and fresh. If I ever stay in the Epcot area again, this will definately be on my list.

We love it! We have an ADR there in a couple of weeks and we are dining with some friends who will be first timers! I can't wait!:)

Is the Garden Grove on the DDP? If so, has anyone eaten there on their seafood night? We LOVE crab legs and would def. consider it if it's a good buffet...seafood night only, cause we'd only be going for the legs:)

No, the Garden Grove is at the Swan (non-Disney owned/operated resort) so it is not on the DDP. We've only eaten there once and did not enjoy the food so we haven't been back. It was several years ago and was not Fisherman's Wharf night so things may have changed since then.

Over the past six years, I have been to the Clam Bake four times, the last visit being the end of May this year. The crab legs were available and was told by the waitress that it was a test. I was not on the Dining Plan. The crab legs were delicious and I probably "pigged out" on them; however, it was a buffet and aren't I supposed to be able to eat as much as I want, regardless? In any case, I have always enjoyed the food at the Clam Bake, whether or not it's a real New England style Clam Bake. Oh, by the way, many years ago, I was at the Swan for their Fisherman's Wharf Friday buffet - IMO, the buffet there was far inferior to that at Cape May; however, things could have changed over the years.

Don't want to be a downer, but in all honesty... we ate there one week ago tonight for dinner and weren't impressed at all. The steamers were really littleneck clams and they were very tough. Same for the mussels. The clam chowder was very good, and the rest of the buffet was standard WDW buffet food.. not great, but not horrible, either. We are glad we tried it because we were staying at the BC and had never eated there before, but we won't be going back any time soon.[/QUO

I agree but coming from New England and spending summer vacation in Maine may taint my opinion.

Cape May is our Favorite. We ate dinner there 3 times during our last visit

Not all of us are DPPers. My belief only, not all DPPers are "pigging out."

Let me explain:
1) Folks on DDP *typically* go for the most expensive items.
2) This has been born out by many WDW studies.
3) As for DDP hurting the crab legs at Cape May, the reason is simple.
4) DDP reimburses a set amount for any/all TS meals.
5) This is also why so many non-Disney eateries do not honor DDP.
6) This is not enough to make the desired profit margin if many folks eat crag legs.
7) If people paid OOP, then the crab legs option could create a good profit margin.
8) So, although not all DDP'ers pig-out, enough do to hurt profits.

NOTE: The set reimbursement fee is also the reason why many eateries have eliminated some specialty dishes and/or "standardized" other menu items. The restaurant manager is responsible for the eatery's profit, DDP or no DDP, and just can't serve everything under the DDP prices.
