Is Mineral Makeup "Addicting"?

I have bought the starter kit but I cant make myself actually rely on it to cover all day. Every morning I think I will use it but then end up using my old liquid foundation to make sure it will stay all day. Does it last all day? Anyone from Florida who has used it in our humidity?

Yes, I do. I have been using BE for almost 2 years, it works better than the liquid foundation for me. Liquid foundation felt heavy on my face and during the hot summer months, it felt like my face was melting. Another touch-up with Mineral Veil may be all that's needed to keep you looking polished and fresh.

I hate makeup. I wear it only when I have to. The last time I had makeup on was for my son's wedding in July of 2004.
I am getting some age spots on my face, not sure if they are from age or from the chemo, they showed up during my chemo treatments. I thought it was time I cover them up. So I went to my nearest Sephora store (45 minute drive) to try some BE.
The cosmetician put it on after she drowned my face in moisturizer. She said you should put the BE on when your face is still wet with the moisturizer. She used the light and when she was done it looked very strange. I could see the powder on my face, it didn't look natural.
It also didn't cover my age spots the way I saw it on TV.
She showed me how to swirl, tap then without warning she started the circular motion on my face. I didn't close my eyes and I got the powder in my eyes. This happened at 3 pm and it is now 2:30 am ((work nights). My eyes still are burning. Ouch, I wish she would have warned me she was coming at my face.
I was planning on trying it out first and going back for the starter kit but I am not as happy as I thought I would be. Maybe she didn't put it on enough on my spots but put too much on my nose and forehead. I don't know. But I hate to spend $60 for this stuff and find out I hate it. I did feel like there was nothing on my face but it was so flat. No sheen at all, but because I never wear makeup I do have a little shine to my skin.
She also covered my lips and eyebrows and I could see the powder in my eyebrows. It just sat there and looked terrible. I used a tissue to wipe the eyebrows off. She didn't offer any lipstick and the powder on my lips really washed me out. Luckily I had some with me and I applied it but even though it is a shiny lipstick it looked very matte over the BE on my lips.
Did anyone have this matte look when they first started? I am thinking she applied it too heavy but why didn't it cover the spots that are really very light to begin with? Peggie

Unfortunately, none of those three brushes is really the right one for applying foundation. If you have to use one of them, it would be the baby buki, but it's really too small for foundation.

The flawless applicaiton and kabuki brushes are made for the BE foundation. The DVD uses it and the reps in Sephora use it.

There is really no need to go out and buy another brush for foundation if you have the flawless application brush and the kabuki brush. Just follow the DVD (or instructions you can find online) and you'll be fine.

Sounds like a bad application. I do not put it on my lips or eyebrows. I do get a matte finish, but I feel it looks natural and not heavy. They probably used way to much on you.

This morning I used the flawless application brush instead of the baby buki brush to apply the stuff. Wow, that brush did horribly. Anyone notice that? Only the baby buki seems to work for me.

I bought a starter kit. I tried it and I must've been heavy handed with the stuff. It looked like I got in a tussle with a powder puff and the puff won. :scared: :crazy2:

I'll have to play with it some. I'm sure it takes some time to get it right. :)

Oh goodness, it definitely sounds like you put too much on. Start with a little and apply in layers. Leave the room in between each layer and come back in and look at yourself. You probably need less than you think to achieve the look you want!

Okay, you guys talked me into it! I ordered the starter kit from BE today. I can't wait until it comes in! I've been noticing that I'm blotchy this time of year. I hate wearing foundation so I am looking forward to trying this. I wear blush and lip gloss every day but that's it. I couldn't figure out what the catch was until it automatically signed me up for the club-duh! I'm going to wait to see how much I use before I cancel the membership. From what most of you are saying, I don't think I'll need more foundation in 2 months!

Congrats! You can call the number on the website and postpone your shipments if you want. But I agree...you don't need new foundation every 2 months! This stuff lasts forever!

Peggie, I didn't have a good experience at Sephora either. The girls at The Florida Mall store were too involved in personal discussions to be interested in helping me. If I hadn't known what I wanted to buy, I would have left the store without buying a thing. It doesn't sound like the girl was experienced in applying BE, don't let that experience discourage you though.

Another option is to buy sample sizes from eBay, it's a good and inexpensive way to try BE. I do apply moisturizer before applying BE, but I always allow it to dry/soak in completely. I have tried putting BE while my face was "semi-moist" and it wasn't a good idea, BE didn't go on smoothly, it looked blotchy and uneven. :scared: I had to wash my face and start all over again.

A BE product that gives you some shine is Clear Radiance. It's supposed to give you a dewy and moist look on your face and it works.

Isn't the bisque supposed to be what is used to help cover the spots and blemishes? I tried to use just the foundation, but it didn't work very well. Works much better for my undereye circles with the bisque.

I, too, always allow my moisturizer to soak in/dry before I apply any foundation whatsoever. I've made that mistake before when I wore Mary Kay powder foundation. Blotchy and not really pretty...washed my face and started over again! Liquid foundation, I can see not having to wait for your moisturizer to dry, but powder? Nope...doesn't work for me.

I use the flawless application brush for my foundation and my warmth everyday and have no problems with it...

I have the age spot problem too. I use Summer Bisque with a concealer brush on the spot before applying the BE foundation. It lightens up the spot but doesn't entirely conceal it. Still like BE though. I switched from MAC studio fix almost a year ago. The biggest selling point for me was the SPF 15 in BE that MAC does not have.

I was referring to the 3 brushes that came in the Today's Special Value: the Soft Focus Liner brush, the Soft Focus Shadow brush and the Baby Buki. The Baby Buki would be the only one I'd think about using, but it's really too small for applying foundation.

Peggie, I don't even know where to start! First, definitely let your moisturizer dry completely before applying minerals - any minerals! The wetness will grab at the minerals and you'll get uneven coverage. Second, you start with just a little bit of minerals and a brush designed to apply them. Swirl the brush in the lid with the minerals until you can't really see the minerals on the brush, tap the brush lightly on the side of the lid, and start to apply them by buffing lightly. If you feel like it's not enough coverage, leave the room, come back and look again in the mirror. If you still think you need more, apply another layer and leave the room again. It takes some time to figure out how much is enough for you, but it really takes very little. The more you buff, the more it melds with your skin and it shouldn't look like matte powder sitting on your face. By you saying it covered your lips and eyebrows, I definitely know she used way too much.

If you want to see how it should be applied, go to www.bareminerals.com and click on the How-To link. There are videos there that show you how to apply the minerals.

Please don't let this sales associates bad application turn you off of BE and minerals.

Oh I am so excited. UPS is saying that my package is out for delivery.

:cool1:

Going to WDW this weekend so I don't think I will play around with my B.E. until next week.

Can someone tell me how BE is with pores? I am 31 and seem to have them horribly around my nose. Sometimes when I put on liquid foundation it seems that they show worse. I was considering ordering BE but was wondering about this.
Thanks!

I'm dying to try this mineral stuff but I could use some advice. We don't get QVC up here so I'll have to pay full price at Sephora and I don't want to buy the wrong thing :). So far I plan on getting the foundation and special brush but is there anything else you experts would reccomend? Also, do you need a special concealer to work with the foundation or can I just use my regular concealer? Can I use my regular blush and eyeshadow with it too?

Thanks!!!

I forgot to tell you all how the Neutrogena worked out.

I like it! :thumbsup2 When it's gone, I think I'll go ahead and try the "real" stuff to see if it's really any better.

I wore it to school and I carpool with a friend. After we were on the road (she was driving), she said, "Do you have on makeup?" and then told me that she actually noticed it out of her peripheral vision. I was like, Is that how bad it looks??? and she said no, that I really looked good in it. :rotfl: When I caught myself off guard looking in a restroom mirror, I could tell that my face was a whole lot less blotchy looking and seemd a lot smoother.

:thumbsup2

You can still order off QVC.com even if you don't get it on the TV.

I have noticeable pores too and it does will with them, not so BIG.

I got my Fashonista today, will play tomorrow and Sunday!

Ok...how noticeable does this makeup look on a person? To me, liquid makeups look terrible, very fake, like plaster (no flames please, this is just my opinion). Does BE give you that same mask-like look? I've never seen this done in person and its quite hard to see what it really looks like when you're judging this based on a TV show (QVC).

Let's put it this way. I only wear makeup maybe once in a blue moon. Occasionally I'll put on mascara and blush, but RARELY foundation. I hate foundation and how it feels on my skin. I also hate how it looks "masky." But this stuff, I couldn't even tell I had it on, either by how it felt or how it looked. It wasn't until I really focused on the overall look of my skin tone that I could tell a difference, and I liked it. I'll probably wear it a lot more often.
