Is Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party a must do?

We'll be visiting December 6-11th. We are celebrating DD's 3rd birthday while we're there. I was just wondering if MVMCP was worth the admission. I'm torn. I know my DD would love it, but then there isn't anything that I think she won't love. What's the consensus? I tried searching, but couldn't find any other threads on the topic.

It used to be very wonderful and special (you really felt like a VIP at the party) but now it's just a huge crowd of people fighting for hot chocolate :(.

Don't waste your money, most of the "specialness" of the Magic Kingdom will be there during the day, anyway, like the decorations, etc.

I would say that if you are on the fence about it, wait until you get there. Go to the Magic Kingdom on one of the evenings they'll have the MVMCP, and stay until they kick you out-you'll get a "preview" of sorts of what you will get in terms of crowds and fun. And if they tell you that night is sold out, then be glad-you don't want to be at a sold out party, anyway :crowded:

You sound like me. We are going the first week after Thanksgiving also and it is our first time for the Christmas decorations. I keep think that just going to Disney and seeing the Christmas decorations at all the parks and hotels should be enough but then I am afraid we will miss out on something.
I keep reading different reviews on it and it seems to be a very busy party so I just don't know.:confused3

We will be heading down Dec. 3-6 for our first Christmas visit. :santa: I have been on the fence about MVMCP, too. I think I've finally decided to just focus on all the other wonderful happenings that will be going on.

About your parade question, I'm almost positive that on non-party nights they will be having a parade (I'm not sure if it's a special Christmas one or not). I have read that they will be lighting the castle with the special icicle lights on the non-party nights. Maybe someone else can confirm what happens on non-party nights.

My newest dilemma is trying to decide if we are going to book a Candlelight Processional Package or not. ;)

If I had a small child I would probably pass unless I was able to go sometime during the week on a non-discounted night. We went 2yrs ago on a passholder special night - never again!!!! The party was sold out and the crowds were worse than anything I have ever seen :scared1:

We did this last year, same week I think. We had a group of 8 with 4 kids who just turned 4. I knew this would be our only December trip and had been drooling over Christmas at WDW since I had seen the Travel Channel shows.

As far as really feeling like Christmas all around the property, we didn't really get it. Don't get me wrong, we loved our vacation! Generally the crowds were low and the weather was temperate. But I didn't feel like humming The Twelve Days of Christmas all the time and came home feeling very rushed for the holiday. (Okay, not that I would have done the humming anywhere else, but we just weren't feeling it. JMO.)

The Very Merry Party was touted to not be crowded according to TourGuide Mike. It was, in fact, sold out. It was crazy busy. People everywhere. I can't say that enough. I was cursing Mike the whole time.

But we had soooooo much fun at the party. It was crowded. We were exhausted. And did I mention that it was crowded? But the kids LOVED the parade and the rides at night. We sent the kids back to the hotel with my parents after the parade and stayed for the fireworks then ran around riding every ride with no wait during the second parade. We shut the park down!

Then the next morning we could hardly move! But you don't care about that.

I loved the party and am very satisfied with our experience-made better because my parents were willing to take the kids back to the room when the parade and the kids were done. If this is your only December trip, then do it. If you might do it again in the future, then hold off for the kids to be older and be able to stay up late.

Really, watching Wishes with my husband at the party is one of my very specail memories from the trip.
