Is it too hot to go in the summer?

Yes it is hot, but use EMH in the morning and leave by noon or so. Swim, then head back at night time. You will be fine!

Bunch of WIMPS! :dance3:

Come to the Gulf Coast of Tejas, we will show you hot & humid!:yay:

Florida got squat for heat. That is where Texas goes to cool off in the summer time. :cloud9:

Now I am not sure about you Yankees in NY but I have to think that even frigid Florida has more 90 degree days than NY :sunny:

We went at the end of July. Basically it was like being in the seventh circle of hell.

Yeah. I believe someone else called it "surface of the sun" hot and that's pretty accurate. Different people handle heat differently but if it gets to you easily, plan very, very carefully if you end up going in July.

We still had a good time but the heat was absolutely and utterly miserable and for those of us who are sensitive to it, it did impact the trip.

I have taken many August trips and went this past June for Star Wars Weekend. I was there in the record breaking heat wave of 2009 as well. I grew up in SC where it is hot and humid and there is a thunderstorm practically every day at 3:00 pm from June until August so perhaps I reacclimate. I love my summer trips. I do try to stay in a Moderate Hotel instead of a value so that the bus stops are shaded. I have cases of water delivered to the hotel and I go early come back to hotel for heat of the day, then go back and close the parks. I always have a wonderful trip.

I go to Houston to cool off from Dallas. Orlando is (usually) easy.

It all depends on what you prefer though. I prefer the heat.

Dallas? Didn't we boot you and you football team out of Texas already? :rotfl2:

Wait till my Oilers come home, then it is gonna be on!

Speaking of Texas, that's where we are (because it's the best place to be of course) and we're just now planning our first ever WDW trip. I recently asked some friends, also from here in TX, about their trip to Disney last August. I wanted to know all about it and if they were miserable and if the heat was horrid etc etc. I am not kidding, they said it was CHILLY! I was like huh:confused3 They honestly felt like they were always cold because it was rainy and then they would stand in the ride lines with A/C and freeze to death. They loved loved Disney and are now planning their second trip in the dead of summer. Heat didn't phase them at all obviously. Not only that, but they did ZERO planning and slept in everyday and just went wherever they felt like each day. They were completely clueless about touring plans and Extra Hours, etc and had a huge blast in August! I've also grilled several other friends here in TX about their summer trips and nobody has ever complained about the heat at WDW in the summer. Maybe we're just used to being miserable:lmao:

Would you mind me asking what week in June you went? We have never been in June before always mid to late May and now we are booked 6/23/ to 6/30/2011. We find late May hot and humid and don't mind at all...how much different do you think a month will make weather wise? TIA ;)

We went June 6-12 - last year -
I think the dates this year are June 5-11 (still working out the details)

I think you will find the weather to be about the same. and if you take your time and take care of yourself - it will be okay!:thumbsup2

See! Cause we are super tough her in Tejas :woohoo: Cold in August in Florida :rotfl2:

As someone posted before, yes Chicago and NY are hot and humid in the summer. And last year was super hot for Chicago too, but I wasn't spending alot of time outside. We go from our air conditioned house to the a/c car to our a/c jobs. I just don't know if for me personally it would be enjoyable in the awful heat.:confused3

That's exactly right.

And for me it's not that we can't find some fun in the heat. There are definitely ways to make the most of it. But I don't want to settle for "making the most of it". I look forward to Disney all year and hate to "settle" for what I can. Unless you're staying on the monorail, it's a hassle to leave and come back to the park. I honestly prefer to just stay in the park all day. That's infinitely more doable in cooler weather.

My thoughts exactly. We were there from July 30-Aug 12 this past summer. OMG!!!! I was looking for the shuttle to the sun, it would have been more pleasant there. Naturally, central Florida was having record breaking heat/humidity at that time. I've been to WDW about 4 times in mid-August (around the 13th or so) for a week. I changed to late July into early August only to avoid the beginning of free dining...been there, done that and never doing it again!! Each time it was hot and humid...especially the year we arrived about 5 hours before the hurricane!!
But last year, there were actually two days that my dd, 17, and I stayed in our studio at WL simply because it was too miserable to be outside. The heat and humidity were awful. We would finally go out in early evening. And even then it didn't cool down all that much but at least the sun wasn't beating down on you!!! And it just didn't rain all that much to top it all off.
Even the CMs were saying how badly they felt for the guests. They figured it must be awful to have to pay all that money and then be so miserable out in the parks. They figured that they could at least leave their air conditioned homes, get into their cooled cars and then go to their a/c jobs (for the most part anyway). When the CMs start feeling badly for the guests due to heat, you know it's surface of the sun hot!!

New York was hot and humid all summer last summer. It was the hottest summer in NYC history.

Ummm OK. I'm sure it was, but after a bit of digging I found the Average temp for the summer in NYC last year was 77.8F according to the NYT. Average for Orlando was 83.8F according to the Sentinel.

While the high temps may be similar to other places, Central Florida just doesn't cool off at night like other places. There is so much humidity the dew point is in the high 70s and often over 80F. So the temperature at night may only drop into the high 70s, or sometimes 80-81F. That means the morning air is supersaturated with water. There's nothing quite like heading outside at 7am and having the day already be warm and muggy.

I can imagine Texas in the summer is hot as all get out but in Florida we have the humidity too which can sometimes just be suffocating. You literally feel as if you are walking around in a sauna all day.
My mom lives in Orlando too and went to Texas last summer for a trip and said it IS hot but the humidity is just not there which helps make the heat more bearable. Not that we all want to win the award for hottest and most miserable feeling state in the summertime, but just to put it in perspective for those coming in the summer to WDW. It's not just the heat to take into consideration but that wet sticky subtropical humidity too! That's why Animal Kingdom is the worst in the summers.

We were there the 3rd week of July and it was lovely. Warm with a shower in the afternoon for a few minutes. Very nice in the evening. Fast forward to Labor Day week in Sept. and it was BLASTED HOT. Whew! I know weather varies from month to month and year to year...but that was my experience. I say, July is just fine! :goodvibes

Thinking about a trip this summer - I can take the heat IF the crowds aren't too bad - how are crowd levels in early to mid June?

All I can say after reading this is, I must be weird!! ROFL!!

I just didn't think it was THAT bad when we were there in July in 2005. Maybe I've just forgotten but I didn't think it was unbereable so much that we wouldn't ever do it again.

Yes it was hot. Yes it was humid. It wasn't insanely so bad that I didn't want to go outside. Of course, my DH wore jeans the entire time because he NEVER wears shorts.

I didn't think it was any worse than some of the days we have had here.

We're going in July & I'm already growing out my hair so I can wear ponytails & baseball caps every day. :) We went in June '08 and yes, it was hot but we did what others suggested: went to the parks in the AM, swam in the afternoon, & went out at night.

Congrats on your anniversary!!

Not my team, trust me on that. ;)

Your Texans are way better in many ways than the Oilers. One has potential and the other... :confused3

As for humidity, Houston is VERY humid and so is New Orleans and other places along the Gulf. If you've been to any of them, you have a good idea of what Orlando is like in the summer.
