Is it okay to put family first? (Response to royal family stuff)

MM wanted to be center of attention. Sometimes one needs to be careful what they wish for...

"Not long after she became engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan hosted a get-together at Sandringham for her fiance's friends, reports say. The duchess wanted embroidered red blankets for each guest, and told her PA Melissa Touabti (pictured left) to get them, a source said. They added: 'When they arrived, they weren't the right shade of red for Meghan and she went mental at Melissa [Touabti]."

Oh Harry, what were you thinking?

"An executive at the US TV network which will broadcast Harry and Meghan's interview was executive producer of a controversial programme that screened images of Princess Diana as she lay dying.

Susan Zirinsky worked on CBS's 48 Hours Investigates in 2004 when it screened two images of an unconscious Diana slumped in the back of a car after the crash in Paris in 1997. The 69-year-old is now head of CBS News, one of the network's most powerful jobs.

The decision to broadcast the pictures, which had never been shown before out of respect to Diana's family, provoked outrage."

I wonder who's Meghan's main beef is with?
William as he tried to warn Harry to slow down a bit?
The Queen as she didn't bend to Meghan's will easily?
Kate as she was seen as the favourite young royal who could do no wrong? (Was there animosity left over from the reported bridesmaid dress incident?)
Charles because he couldn't persuade his mother round to Meghan's way of thinking?
Prince Phillip because he couldn't persuade his wife round to Megan's way of thinking? (And I think he probably doesn't have the patience for her hissy fits, if they are true)

I can't think of what issues she may have had with Camilla lol!

Will all of the above get a roasting in the interview I wonder!

Not holding my breath.

Here are my guesses on what is going to happen..

1. Oprah states many times how special/exclusive/unique this interview is. The first of its kind. She has known and loved Harry for years and is so happy to GIVE him this chance to show the world who he and "the woman will won his heart" is.
2. At some point Harry will glance lovingly over to Meghan, a quick look to the belly, maybe a quick rub... The baby is love and rebirth to a new life.
3. Oprah will start off with " who are you Meghan" . Try and dig for some Royal vs normal life scoop.
She will probably ask some stupid questions like " can you just call up the Queen and ask for baking tips"
4. Meghan will go on about how even before becoming Royal she felt she was " the people's princess". Not excately those words but something like that the extent that like Diana, she has a calling to SERVE people. and she doesnt need a crown. It hurts to lose her royal charities, but she is FIERCE and will now do bigger and better things.
5. Oprah will get into how Royal protocol restricted Meghan in doing what she wanted. Meghan will most likely use words like BOLD, STRONG, DRIVEN, " hit the ground running" type words to show how she wanted to this and that but she was too BOLD, different and went against Royal norms.. Maybe we learn she wanted to do this specific charity but was told no.
6. Oprah might bring up the political environment of the US vs. UK. Maybe we learn that Meghan felt restricted, SILENCED, by the Royals as a royal cannot express any polilitical things.
7. Oprah will bring up and try to push press double standards and try and dig dirt on the other Royals... Big shock would be if they brought up the Andrew stuff..
8. Meghan will state the Royal Officials never backed her up. We all read the teaser on how they spread false information... Oprah will push to set some stories straight.
9. Harry will talk about his mental health. Bring up Diana. Maybe he says that he's always wanted an out.
10. They still love their family and there is a split between personal and offical royal.
11. Of course they will talk about how hard this all was with Covid ( as the interview takes place from a mulitmillion dollar estate).
12. Oprah might bring up Prince Phillip to lead into when they both plan to return to the UK.

all I can think of right now.... I am just wondering if there will be some big bomb shells or not.. If they come across entitled, clueless or not.

Spot on. You may have a future in tabloid type interviews.

Funny but I don’t think this interview was even a thing back when this thread began in early January. I didn’t have an inkling about the Oprah interview back then but maybe I was out of the loop. Can’t say I follow Oprah lol
That's January of 2020 it started!

Been reading along for laughs. I feel bad for anyone - Diana, Sarah, Kate, Meghan, marrying into that ridiculous archaic institution that insists on controlling the lives of everyone in the family.

Andrew invited someone with an active warrant for sex crimes into Windsor Castle. He opened up the throne room so Ghislane Maxwell could be photographed chilling on the throne. And, one of the “alleged incidents” took place while he was on official duty. These aren’t things the palace would be interested in looking into? They certainly fall under the palace’s jurisdiction.

The striking difference I see, as someone on the outside, between how these two “scandals” are being handled is in the amount of “insider information” that’s being leaked, rumors from within, etc. For two years now, stories have been trickled to the press about Meghan’s behind-the-scenes behavior and now, days ahead of an Oprah interview, staff are wanting to speak out and an internal investigation has been launched (which has been conveniently made known to the world instead of remaining internal.) Has the same been true on the Andrew side of things? It seems like those on the inside have done a much better job of keeping mum about his behind-the-scenes behavior.

At which point, she reportedly blew him off for months refusing to address the issue. I’m just saying, the Queen/palace handled this poorly from the beginning and had a hand in creating this mess. If they had addressed it head on when Harry first brought it up, the Sussexes wouldn’t have felt the need to take matters into their own hands. Even if the answer was “you’re all in or you’re all out,” it could have been resolved quickly and completely behind-the-scenes.
This is typical tear everyone else down to lift the H&M.

FTR...MM was given the chance to opt out of royal duties in the beginning but declined. So why is she still whining? And while some may call it control perhaps it's protecting the in-laws from themselves?

This idea that the problem all along was just the Queen being awkward over the "break up"! :sad2:

Or was it that H&M didn't just get everything exactly the way they wanted and foot-stamping didn't work with the Queen!

Or, most likely, something in between.

The Queen understands that some of the less comfortable factors of being a "senior royal" are there for a reason and H & M would have been told that. She wouldn't just have shut them down; I believe she wanted to work WITH them to find a solution that worked for everyone. Whereas, they have didn't want to be tied to working with anyone and seem to feel entitled to that privilege, regardless of who gets hurt along the way? ...Hence, this interview., which I guess we're supposed to see as "the truth finally coming out", when it can only be one very biased version.

The Queen wouldn't just transform the whole monarchy for Harry and his wife (who hadn't grown up understanding anything of the monarchy and had only dipped her toes in briefly.) Why should she? It's bigger than her, let alone H & M.

I bet there were times it was really frustrating for them. Any adult in the UK would be able to tell you that the price for royal luxury and privilege is not for the faint-hearted. I can imagine the rules, traditions and red tape could be maddening. Still, we're not talking about foraging for food, or not being able to pay the electricity bill or losing your job - maybe, they need to learn how to bend.

P.S. They'd have more of us still on their side, if they hadn't (separately form everyone else) shown such double standards through their own words and actions.

It's really sad - they seemed to have such potential and they definitely had early popularity.

Now, though it's like they're being driven more by resentment and entitlement. Either that or they're getting questionable PR advice!

...that ridiculous archaic institution that insists on controlling the lives of everyone in the family.

That's not the most accurate picture of the Monarchy! :D

I'm not particularly for or against the royals, but I can see that whatever the country thinks of the details, there are ways in which they support the fabric of the country that would only be realised when they were gone. That doesn't mean change isn't appropriate, but I wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater!

I've not seen that Sarah Ferguson interview with Oprah before. Maybe because I was younger when it was released, or maybe because it just did not have much impact here in the UK.
It all seems very jovial and friendly though. And Sarah doesn't come across as woe is me in the clip I saw. I think that will be a big difference with the Meghan interview. Oprah seems to reference back to Sarah's book (almost as if its the starting point of the interview) which she won't have had with the Meghan interview.
I wonder if (well actually I'm sure she will be) asked "why didn't you just toe the line, wear the tiara and be happy" in much the same vein Oprah asked Sarah.

Why do you say that?

No, it’s pointing out hypocrisy and double standards within the institution.

Andrew is out of sight with his mouth shut. If H&M truly wanted privacy they should follow suit. But they can't help themselves and continue to put themselves front and center.

Now he is... but that drop out of sight was after his own prime time interview

Harry comes across as a spoiled brat and Megs...a DIVA. Both have an overdeveloped sense of self importance. Harry has sold his soul and lost much of the goodwill graced upon him because of his mother.
