Is it normal to get so annoyed....

This drives me nuts too.

I tell people (ones who know that I am a big Disney fan and have heard me talk about it many times before) that I am going on a trip to Disney World this fall and they say "The one in California or Florida?"

<sigh>

If I said Disney WORLD then OF COURSE I mean the one in Florida!! Have you not been listening?? Ever?? And I even hold back information as to not overwhelm you so there isn't much to remember! You should have picked up by now that LAND is in California and WORLD is in Florida!!!! :furious:

Except I don't say that. I just smile slightly and tell them that I am going to Florida. Meanwhile I am losing my mind quietly inside my head. I think what bugs me most is not the people who I have never met who ask me this question, it's the people I have talked to about something I am really passionate about and they haven't taken the two seconds to remember the differences between the two. I listen to their things - all day long! (As you can maybe tell, it's my coworkers who are the greatest offenders.)

Wow. I guess I had some pent up irritation over this subject. Thanks for opening this thread and letting me vent!

This thread just reminded me of an argument I overheard while leaving Soarin' a few trips back. The husband and wife were talking about how great the ride was when the husband commented something about Disney World at the end. The wife corrected him stating that it is Disneyland at the end. The husband disagreed and insisted it was definitely Disney World. His main reason for KNOWING it was Disney World was where the Matterhorn was. You see, at Disneyland, it's not as close to the castle. The wife, getting quite a bit annoyed at this point, exclaims, "There's not even a Matterhorn IN Disney World." This, of course, leads to an argument about where there is an is not a Matterhorn. At this point, most people are listening to their conversation and getting amused. The wife wants to head over to Magic Kingdom to show him that there is no Matterhorn over there. Husband agrees and off they went. I wanted to follow them to see how it all turned out.

I think what really bothers me even more is the occasional follow-up after I've corrected them - "Is there even a difference?" - then I really unload into them. I then also make a note in my mind to remind me I can't be friends with them at that current state.

That is my biggest pet peeve, even more than messing up the name! I can't believe how many people think they are exact replicas of each other.

I had a friend a few years ago get quite frustrated when I tried to tell her that the restaurant she ate at in DL was not at WDW. She was sure I just hadn't found it.

And it just so happens that a lot of our friends have taken first- time trips to WDW this year, another friend (mutual friend to the others) is planning a trip to DL this summer. She doesn't understand why everyone is going to WDW when DL is so much closer (we live in Colorado). I casually mentioned that there were a lot of things at WDW that they didn't have in DL, but I don't think she believed me. She said it was "probably just arranged differently".

And then there's my SIL (who lives in FL)... Last year she made 3 seperate FB check-ins at "Disney World", with a picture that was clearly at Universal. I thought maybe she was just being sloppy with the location until later when she was asking me about ticket prices. She really didn't know there was a difference. Sigh.

My Dad refers to the whole schmeer as "Disney" by which he really means Orlando in general. Now THAT is annoying.

That is hilarious! I would have loved to see his face as he walked around the castle looking for the Matterhorn. :)

Confession is good for the soul, so here goes:

Sometimes, I purposely say Disneyland when referring to WDW in order to flesh out people who know the difference. If someone corrects me, there's a good chance I can open up and talk in detail about Disney with that person without being branded a "Disney geek." :rotfl2:

Hahahaha! That's awesome!!!

So maybe, I've been looking at the glass as half empty instead of half full!! Here I was thinking that certain people who repeatedly mix up the names (don't understand what Animal Kingdom is...etc.) are intentionally annoying me or (to give the benefit of the doubt) just don't know any better.

When in actuality, they may be really tipping their tootsies in Bay Lake to see if just *maybe* they could be talking to a fellow-kindred-Disney-peep?!

I like it!!! :thumbsup2

Something I noticed is that people on the east coast tend to say they are going to "Disney". Having grown up on the west coast, I got a picture of Disneyland in my head and then got confused when what followed didn't make sense. That was when I realized they meant Disney World. I've noticed no one on the west coast says Disney when they mean Disneyland.
Of course, we all say we are going to Disneyland when we really mean Disneyland Resort (DL AND DCA).

I've told people I'm going to WDW and they think I mean Disneyland.

I just had to chime in with a funny story from a few days ago...I was talking about my upcoming trip with a coworker, who shared she took her children and grandson to WDW last year. She then asked what in the world my 5 y/o son was going to do, as there were very few rides her 8 y/o grandson could go on since he wasn't tall enough. She said that there were a few baby rides, but mostly a bunch of adult thrill rides. After I stood there looking confused for a moment, I finally asked if she perhaps was thinking of Universal Studios, I've never been there, but I really felt like she wasn't thinking of anywhere in WDW. Her reply? "Well, yes, of course, we visited ALL of the Disney parks." I just said that hopefully DS would find something that he would like there and that I was just glad to be going on vacation and walked away...smh. Wonder if they used their park hoppers to get in over there??? Lol

It's still "Disney" and "MGM". But I also call the ride "terror of tower"* so I must drive you people nuts!

* my daughter and I were at DCA many years ago and heard a little boy say, "mommy, can we ride terror of tower again?" And it just stuck! The whole family calls it that now.

:rotfl2: What we really need here is a smiley banging his head against a wall because that's what I would have been doing!

I still call it MGM. Will always be MGM - and without the hat. Just like it will always be the Sears Tower, Cominskey Park and Marshall Fields.

I get that all the time that people call WDW "Disneyland". I always correct them, but very gently. For the sake of simplicity, I always call DHS
"The Studios".

My Dad's way of referring to the Disney Parks:

Magic Kingdom-Disney World
Epcot-Epcot Center
Animal Kingdom-The Wild Animal Park
Hollywood Studios-What the heck is Hollywood Studios?

Disneyland-The other Disney park

I usually say we are "doing Disney" since we've done both Land and World. People who know will ask which one.

I still say EPCOT Center. I was there in 1986. I have a hat that says EPCOT Center.

My husband took issue the other day that I had The Studios hours listed as HS on our spreadsheet (yes, I'm one of those people.) Well, what should it be? DS? DHS? Whatever. I changed it and for some reason it made him happy.

Haha I love this topic! I like to look up the Disney World hashtags on Instagram to see pictures of the parks between trips. Some days I feel like all I see are rides at Disneyland or Universal. It annoys me probably more than it should.

It also annoys me that my husband (born and raised in CA) constantly tells me that Disneyland is better than Disney World, but has yet to take me there to prove his point. But I guess that's a whole other topic. :)

We are lazy around here and most people just Disney instead of saying Walt Disney World.
