I booked the fantasy for sept 2016 in a deluxe family with veranda for 4 people in a 4 e I believe and it was around 5300. 6700 for 5 in April when you don't have to worry about hurricane season sounds pretty good.

Lots of offseason cruises have discounts after the PIF date. GT, Military and Florida res rates have been plentiful. Trust me it is the only way I would have cruised 9 times in the last four years. Our cruise in Feb dropped 1700 over opening day prices. The cruise the last week of April also dropped considerably. All that being said every year is different. I would never pay 6700 for a Caribbean cruise when I know I can go for half that by being flexible, but we are a family of four. Since you are a family of five you may not have a choice. They never discount staterooms for five. You would need to book two rooms to get a discount.

We are a family of 5 and FLR and as you said they never discount for families of 5. Last minute is a challenge if all 5 are going because it's often hard to get connecting cabins or even a cabin number. So depending on your kids ages it may be out for you unless someone wants to sleep in adifferent cabin then their husband. I can't see doing this.....then again some people might like it. LOL

Is $6700 insane to pay for a 7 night for a family of five?

That sounds inline with a 5 person cabin outside of high peak times (when the kids are out of school). The biggest advantage to booking early for a family of 5 that needs to keep costs as low as possible is you have a chance to get a porthole cabin that sleeps 5 and costs less. We are ok doing this on shorter cruises but on 7 nights we generally like to have a balcony.

We are sailing the week before you next April and it was roughly $5400 for 4 in a cat 5B. So adding a 5th person and moveing up to a cat 4C and $6,700 sound about right to me.

Just saw that this thread had been bumped. We actually ended up booking an amazing deal in the Dominican Republic for April.

We will try for a cruise in 2017 instead.

Would you mind telling me what resort or place you found in the Dominican Republic for a family of 5? We are also a family of 5 and it's frustrating because most resorts are only built for 4 to a room. Thanks.

We are staying at Barcelo Punta Cana. It was a crazy good deal and we have a "family suite" on club level for a week at a price I could not pass up!!!
