Is it just throwing $$ away booking later on?

We have 2 4C rooms for July, 2016 - and, it's approx. $12,000! We are also a family of 5. I wish we could cruise for 7 nights at $6700 - that is close to what we pay for 4 nights.

I feel your pain! 2 cabins in the summer is so pricey, but all our schedules will allow for 6 of us. I'd be crying - tears of joy - if it were $6700! But it's still worth it.

Is $6700 insane to pay for a 7 night for a family of five?

Break it down into a per person per day cost and see how that feels for you. For you, you're paying about $191 per person per day to take your cruise. If you think that the value of what you're getting is worth that, compared to what you spend on other family vacations, then you have your answer.

We haven't cruised ever, lol![/QUOTE

Why not start out with a shorter less expensive cruise combined with WDW, and then if you like it you can book onboard for the following year and get a discount and OBB. If you transfer the cruise to Costco( if your a member) you will get a 8% Costco gift card. DCL is offering a new port next year(Tortola) that may be why the price went up already. The price this year on the last week of April never went up. They ended up offering a lot of discounts. The end of April is generally a good time to get a fair price. I grew up on the ocean my family had a boat, but I still get seasick when it's rough. Despite my need for Dramamine I still love being on the water, but it's not for everyone. That's a lot of money to invest in a first cruise. Just something to consider. Good luck with your decision.

We just got back from our 7th Disney trip in 6 years....we are kind of bored with it, lol! That's why we are wanting to try the cruise.

Oh, I see it's the end of April. I still think that's a pretty good deal especially if it's on the Fantasy. You might try pricing out 2 rooms. If your kids are older you could save some money booking them in a room directly across the all. Or what we did was book two connecting verandah rooms that each sleep 3 and the price difference was negligible compared to a Cat 4 (five person room).
Our kids will be 11,9 and 1 at the time of the cruise. None of us would feel comfortable with separate rooms.

We moved out thanksgiving 2015 cruise to April 2 2016 back in Jan, maybe early Feb. It was a 6b veranda for 2A 2K, 5300k taxes and all. They announced the Star Wars day at sea, the same cruise now if we waited to book is now for a cat 5 is just under 9000k.

Moral of the story is don't wait, you can always move the reservation, ours was moved 3 times.

I'm 'sort of' in the same boat as you lol I really want to book Alaska for August 2016, but my dh wants to wait until we are on board our September cruise so we can take advantage of the booking bonus they offer on board. I'm afraid the rates will continue to rise and it won't be worth it for us, I think that we should book now and then reshop our cruise in September when we are onboard. However this will be our first cruise and dh does not want to book a second one until we see how we like cruising. *sigh* So I guess we'll see if it's worth it for us in September.

but you can get your full deposit back (unless you book concierge), if it turns out you really hate cruising after all!

book it now, book it now! ;)

Haha, you're a bad influence ;-) the best kind of course!

Yeah I totally get that. We did 7 or 8 WDW trips and got bored with that. We started cruising now I'm bored with the Caribbean. We are going on a Hawaii cruise, then Alaska, then probably Europe. My kids are 11 and almost 13.

I miss WDW we have so many good memories, but you have so few years with the kids and so many things to see. My kids would rather cruise now and see new destinations. My 13 year old wants to see the world.:crazy2: Since you have a big spread between your first two and your youngest it looks like you have a chance to rinse and repeat all you vacations. LOL Lucky you!!!
If your bored with WDW, and not afraid to try something new I would definitely give a 7 day a chance. I would love to get back to WDW, but don't see it happening with all the cruises my kids want to do.

We definitely love Disney and believe that absence will make the heart grow fonder, but DH and the kids (me too) all want to try something new. Everyone is on board (forgive the pun) with the cruise. I just don't want to feel like I've overpaid...

I am planning on booking at the end of the month (as that's when we will have a nice down payment on it) but should I just give up and wait until April 2017?

OP -- I agree with these 2 posts:

You can book now at the rate you are happy with or take a gamble with potential price increases by waiting until the end of this month.

You never know what the price for spring 2017 will be, so you may be holding out for nothing.

If you have the funds now and are willing to spend it for this vacation, go ahead and book now. Prices *may* increase again before the end of the month, there's no way to predict that. It's also highly possible that opening day rates for April 2017 cruises will be the same as the current price for the 2016 cruise. So waiting -- either until month-end or for next year's itineraries -- is a gamble that could likely go against you. If you book for April 2016 now, you can pay it off in installments; if you find a better fare once 2017 itineraries are released, you will most likely be able to push the current reservation out as long as you aren't past the PIF date. If something comes up in the meantime and you need the funds, you can cancel outright prior to PIF and receive full refund.

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks! Getting closer to pulling the trigger...

Just checked the price for the cruise I have booked for May 2016. I booked on the first available date. The cost for the stateroom I booked is up by over $1000. :crazy2:

I booked the fantasy for sept 2016 in a deluxe family with veranda for 4 people in a 4 e I believe and it was around 5300. 6700 for 5 in April when you don't have to worry about hurricane season sounds pretty good.
