Is it just me? There seems to be a lot less points for rent!

On occasion I look at the for rent board. Not that I've taken a scientific poll or anything, but there seems to be a significant drop in the number of postings for points for rent.

Do you think this is because of the new rental rules put in place?

If you mean is it because of the rules for posting then yes. Previously many renters were not active board participants.

I think that is a good thing. Not that I rent that often, as this year was the first year I ever did. We were getting 3 cabins on the Dream and the difference in price was unbelievable. Money versus points.I was able to transfer/rent 650 pts in 3 days time. I was always so nervous to do it before.
I am also happy to see people renting for $11.00 and$12.00 a point. It has been $10.00 for so long it is about time the price went up.

The law of supply and demand will surely increase the rental price above $10. Not to be greedy, but it has been at $10 for a long, long time and I felt it was undervalued especially compared to what Disney rents regular rooms and DVC rooms for.

I'm also guessing that a lot of members were busy selling their properties (fully loaded) before the March 20th change in rules. I've never rented (either side), and doubt I ever willl as my family seems to enjoy going with us now (again).

I think most renters will (very quickly) discover that they will get better prices elsewhere. If so, this effectively ends the DIS R/T board. It's not as though those "landlords" who can no longer post here will suddenly stop renting their points. Instead, they'll just look at other outlets to do so. The market will follow them.

This is my fear, we are witnessing the demise. I really wonder if this wasn't the intent after all.

I've stopped sending people here, for exactly that reason. I now send them elsewhere. (However, I think at least one of the "elsewheres" in question is still a Dirty Word here at DISboards.)

I did not expect traffic to die off as badly as it has, and I bet that TPTB did not either. I'm guessing that the expectation was that many "landlords" would start participating in the community here. So, I don't think this was just the passive-aggressive way of killing it. But, the effect may be the same.

the dis still gets more traffic than the other site.

you just need to visit the resort board and post there about renting your points.

you would be surprised how many people who post here don't know about renting points.

There is no question it is because of the new rules. I think an activity requirement can be a good thing, I just think it was set much too high. Many people are not active posters even though they have been members of this site for many, many years. The bar was just set way too high, and it will be the end of the R/T board.

This is a big site and the world will not end because of it.

Most definitely too high a requirement. With needing 50 posts the prior 6 months--and spread evenly on top of that, it almost assures Daddio of cornering the market on these boards. I'm sure his business has soared. I have nothing at all against David, especially being a paid advertiser, but come on now--50 posts? I've been a member for 9 years, and recently discovered that I can't post on there anymore, because I don't post a lot often enough. I'm working on them, but it will be awhile yet. About the time I get up to 50, I hope they don't yank the board or raise it to 100. I'm trying for a post a day--and this is today's!

I've rented points (my own) but never thru DIS. Honestly, it was easier to just use David's service.

I haven't felt the need to use the r/t board, but if I did I don't think I have enough posts in the last 6 months, either.

A lot of times I will just read some of the more interesting topics and then just call it a day--too tired to post. :) I like your 1 post a day idea.

I agree that points should be rented for 11 or 12. I believe if you are short, Disney charges around $15 per point to rent directly from them!

2-3 post a week is not very much.

There definitely aren't as many posts. I think another side of the problem is not being able to post a Reservation Wanted thread. When I previously rented from someone on the DIS, it was easy to post a thread stating what I was looking for, and then talking to the folks that reply.

I rented our points out this past winter, and it was a pain in the neck to post how many I had, answer a zillion questions from people who hadn't looked into what they needed to do, juggle different people looking for varying amounts, and check on a bunch of different availabilities. I think it makes it harder to be the person renting out the points. I'll probably do it again if I need to get rid of extra points, but I may look at other sites to see if it's easier elsewhere. Of course, this is the only Disney place I post, so that probably won't work either :lmao:
