Is Hulk Coaster too extreme?

Reading up on the Mummy, I'm pretty confident I'll have no problem handling it. Now, looking at the Hulk, I thought a comparison to link it to at WDW would be Rock N' Roller Coaster which I can handle just fine. A buddy of mine told me today it's nowhere near as intense as the Hulk. Is he right?

Hulk is pretty intense.

Comparing it to RnR:

(From the Universal Orlando website)

The Hulk launches riders upward 150 ft. and reaches top speeds of 67 mph.

The ride has a total of seven inversions and two subterranean trenches during the 2-minute 15-second ride.

Feel The Rage! Something has gone wrong with Dr. Bruce Banner's gamma-ray accelerator. Suddenly you're launched from zero to 40 mph in two seconds flat! All you can do is hold on as an angry Hulk roar fills your ears and you smash through the sky on a high-speed roller coaster rampage.

Plus, it's outside, while RnR is inside. Take a look at the ride on YouTube, or check it out before you go on. It's definately a great ride, though!

Hulk is just soooooo much smoother than RnR that even though it is way more intense, it is a very enjoyable ride.

B & M at it's best! Just don't look at it too long or you'll chicken out.

I'd like to add that it is very smooth, as all B&M coasters are, and IMO, smoother than RnRc which is made by Vekoma (who are notorious for less than smooth coasters)

If you have been to Seaworld, it is comparable to Kraken. It really isn't anything like RnR except they are both coasters.

Kraken is much smoother than Hulk, IMO. Hulk's still an excellent coaster and that first launch is always exciting.

Oh I agree, Kraken is smoother but Kraken is more similar to Hulk than RnR is.

True, Kraken is smoother, like almost fall asleep smooth! Seriously,I prefer the hulk because Kraken is too relaxing to me (or I've just been on too many big, rough coasters)

Have to agree with this tactic! Don't linger about underneath...just go and get on. The times that i have stood and watched i haven't ventured on it but the times when i have charged onto it with my 12 year old have been great! It is just the "take off" which gets your heart racing:thumbsup2

I disagree with smooth.....I think Hulk is one of the roughest metal coasters I have ever been on. My head was hit sideways a few times to where my ears hurt. If you wear earrings I suggest removing them. Rock n Roller coaster is very smooth and I could ride it all day.

The visual with Hulk is what is so scary, particulary the height at the beginning. I found I always was reminding myself to breathe. My family likes to ride over and over, but after one or two, I am done getting beat up.

Now, on Dragons I felt it was pretty smooth, a ride like no other and would ride that over and over.

I completely agree with you. My head gets knocked side to side. I've bent my glasses and hurt my ears. My DW is only 5ft, and her head is swallowed up by the harness. She has to hold her head to keep from knocking it around.

RnR is so smooth, and the harness fits better.

Maybe I'm getting older, but a few years ago I'd ride Hulk over and over. Now I have to take a break after a ride or two and let my head settle down. I don't feel that way after RnR or Dragons.

Well Rock N Roller Coaster's harnesses are different than Hulk's and Dragons. RnRC's harness can come all the way down, and the harness will stop at your shoulders. Meaning that if you're an adult height, you can move your head from side to side and not hit it on the harness.

Hulk and Dragons, the harnesses are much higher. I also agree on Hulk being rough. It's probably one of the roughest B&M coasters I've been on. Occasionally you'll get a good train that just came back from its annual, so everything on it is brand new, then that one will be smooth. But get an older train, and you can definetly feel it vibrate.

Also, Rock N is extremely rough in the back seat.

love Kraken, hulk, dragons etc....but will not do R&R. I think the launch is just a bit too much . So for me Hulk is less intense.

I actually got stuck on RnR once...the restraint wouldn't open and no one seemed too concerned about getting me out. Finally...one of the CMs came over and it unlocked. I wouldn't have minded riding twice in a row! :thumbsup2

Ok, after actually being at IOA today and riding Hulk in the back row...I'm going to DISAGREE with MYSELF!

FWIW, today's ride did feel a lot rougher than it has in the past, however I believe the back rows are always going to feel rougher than the front as well, so that's a consideration.

I think after a busy season, the rides get rough from excessive use - and they probably haven't had major maintenance yet?

If you go just before a busy season starts (like May) the coasters seem so much smoother than they do just after a busy season (September or January)

That's just what I've noticed

There are certain coasters that tend to get rough over time,in my opinion Hulk tops the list, the launch is still the same from when it opened in 1999,but the rest of the ride has become pretty rough. Now rides like Kraken and Kumba which is like 7 years older than hulk over at Busch Gardens have not become too rough over time and they're all B&M's so I don't know why that is?I would say Kraken is probably the smoothest coaster anywhere and in my opinion Hulk is more intense than RnRC,but I think anybody who handles RnRC can do Hulk with no problem.
