Sorry, to correct you, but Norah Jones is not a sitarist. That is her half sister, Anoushak Shankar, who is Ravi's "legitimate" daughter. Norah was born as the result of an affair and has never had any real contact with her father (although if you look at a photo of her and Anoushak, they look almost identical).
This is Norah's 2nd album. She is considered a "Cross over" artist, as the album is on the Blue Note Jazz label. Take the time to listen to her sultry jazz voice and realize that she is only 23. Personally, I think it's time that someone so young and with so much talent can just get out there and sing with out showing her navel or bumping and grinding. The album "Come Away With Me" was never intended to be as big as it is, just one of those thing where good music actually got recognized. I thought she was so sweet in all of her acceptances. Obviously she truly was just blown away.
Other thoughts from me...
Simon and Garfunkle sounded great together. Could Paul Simon act happy for once though. Though Art is looking more and more like a tall Ed Koch, his voice never misses.
How nice to see James Taylor and Yo Yo Ma together. Another true classic.
What was Faith Hill thinking??? I think she was having an off night.
The Dixie Chicks...love 'em, but Natalie Maines could have used less gel in the hair!
Love Bruce and think that he got what he deserved with this particular album (that's not to say he was robbed in previous years!).
In Sync -- ok, they're not the Bee Gees (and no one ever will be), but they did a decent tribute. Once again they proved to me that the do have vocal talent.
Robin & Barry Gibb -- nice moment. Very appropriate to have Maurice's son come up on stage.
Robin Williams -- always funny. Any the comedy album award has been around for eons...at least since the 50s. Since the show was in NYC I thought it was appropriate for Harvey to wear his costume from HairSpray (remember he plays Mrs. Turnblatt, the role orginated in the film by Devine). But what was up with Rod & the dog? Was that so that they could say the word "b*tch" and not offend?
Personally, I could do without the rap stuff, but...
