Is Dustin Hoffman stoned??? (Grammy critique & possible spoilers)

At the risk of being tossed off this thread... :p

I always giggle when I hear The Rising, 'cause Bruce mumbles so much I thought it sounded like he was doing a commercial for the phone company!

"Come on up to Verizon...." :teeth:

LOL!! To each their own. . . I really don't mind anyone not getting into Bruce. . . :) :) :)

I think that song by Norah Jones that won everything sounds like the background to a laxative commercial. . but then I'm probably just bitter that Springsteen wa shut out once again. . ;)

:teeth: :p

I CANNOT believe he didn't win, when they showed him right before, you could tell he knew he wouldn't win, I felt bad for him.

Maggie thought he was singing about that movie "The Shining" at first. . ROTF!!! ;) :teeth:

I felt bad for him too Bridget. . :(

but then again Milli Vanilli has more Grammy's then Springsteen, The Beatles, and The Sones combined, so I don't put a lot of stock in them anyway. . LOL!! ;)

Is that true?

Mskanga,
You said...
"oh so wait a minute...you tell jokes, record them on a CD and then you win a grammy...I get it now! Boy times have certainly changed!! LOL"

If I'm not mistaken they have had that category for a long time. I could be wrong...anyone know for sure?
Diane AKA Whitegloves =0)

Thanks for the list Bridget!! :) :) :)

I'm glad he won those!! I heard Robin Williams introduce him as "3-time Grammy winner Bruce Sprinsteen" and I told Maggie that wasn't right because he had never won one before.. . if they announced those I missed it, and it's too bad they couldn't have shown the presentations.. . .

But now at least he's topped Milli Vanilla. . . :teeth: ;)

I guess they consider those the 'unimportant' ones. Rap is soooo much more important. Doncha know. LOL

I guess!! LOL!! ;)

Diane, as far as I know they've had the comedy Grammy for a long time. . . I seem to remember Richard Pryor winning one or two. . . :)

First of all they need to run the whole show thru detox! I dunno where the party was before the show, but, even the audio people were screwing up.

As for some of the outfits:

I chalk Faith Hill up to the stoned attitude that seemed prevalent.

Aretha was the bizarro clone of the Blue Fairy. But then in chat last night, I mentined that Aretha did have the mysterious house fire and dvcreg's comment was maybe that was Aretha's Scarlett O'Hara dress made from the curtains :p

And for the rest:

I missed the beginning, but I think the people writing the teleprompter need to be shot, hung, drawn and quartered. And maybe ran over by a stampeding herd of wild elephants. :P That was just plain total garbage all evening.

The comedy album award has been around a long, long time. Bill Cosby won for one of his comedy albums, which is from his standup days, which are at least 20 years ago now, if not further. To me Robin Williams is one of the true comedy geniuses out there. He can be funny without being annoying about it.

I still think Eminem is crap. Bad poetry to strange soundbytes. Loaded with nasty social commentary. Not exactly music to me. Wow, he got bleeped. Anyone can use those words. True maturity is shown in the ability to not use them at all.

Ok, seeing her perform in person, I still don't see what the excitement over this Avril person is. Wow, grunge girl doing hard rock. What's so special? Debroah Harry's been doing that for many years now. I must be missing something there.

I think Nsync did ok doing the Bee Gees tribute. Is anyone going to match the harmony the brothers Gibb had? No, but they did a good tribute.

The ending number tribute was impressive. No idea who they were tributing as they continued the frentic pace they ran parts of the show at so you couldnt even get a good look at who was on the screen before it fell into the floor. Again, they need to get at least the crew off whatever exotic substance was floating around.

You know you're old when you only recognize Simon and Garfunkel and Bruce. Well, there is Avril, but only know her from my 9 y/o dd!!! It's time for me to stop watching the Grammy's. Ah well.

the boss got robbed.. sorry but norah jones didn't deserve a single award, she only has one single off that album for goodness sakes..

Meshell should have won new artist, and the boss should have won best album and eminem should have won more...

maybe my beloved rap will make all their awards to the big dance one of these days.

Ok I admit I fell asleep about half way through the show. :o What was up with Dustin Hoffman??? Yikes. Actually I could say that about A LOT of the presenters (and performers as well). I do have to say that I enjoyed No Doubt (as I usually do). Gwen Stefani is a great live performer, and she looks like she is having so much fun. And the drummer always cracks me up. It's always interesting to see what he is "wearing".

Simon and Garfunkle...ick. Never was a fan, but that could be because they were before my time. It kind of smacked of the anti-war sentiments.

I don't get the big deal over Norah Jones. Is it just me? You can tell she is gifted, but I guess I just don't like the music.

Who IS Norah Jones? I never heard of her or that song until last night?????? From what I heard of the song, I'm not impressed. What type of station would her music be played on?? Is she a Country star? I have no clue who she is??
