Oh NO!!! My daughter is going to freak!!! We just ordered her a Gelatine and Shellie May from Japan! She loves him!

I was never on board with Duffy. Disney just announced one day, "We have a new character!" There was no movie or anything to really introduce him, he was just there. Nobody in my circle of friends and family likes him. He's probably just not that popular.

Sad to see Duffy go. Have some great memories of meeting him for the past few years. My daughter has a Duffy from before he was even called Duffy (Disney Bear at the time), and my son has an official Duffy. They both have been very well loved since they were babies.

Our next trip my son said he couldn't wait to take Duffy with him because he's not sure if Duffy remembers when he lived at Disney.

Just like I had to get used to not having Mr. Toad & Horizons, I guess, as a family, we'll get used to not seeing "Mr. Duff."

Wondering if he'll still have a big presence in Japan?

Noooo! I missed him last year, and ended up buying myself a Duffy plush when I'd come back home after an extended period of illness had really got me down. I love my Duffy, and I was really looking forward to meeting him next summer! Sob!

He is still extremely popular in Japan, he just never caught on here (probably due in large part to the fact that he was aggressively marketing to Tokyo Disney Sea, but just kind of showed up in the US)

But, there was a story behind the character. Not sure why a movie was needed to introduce a new character.

Sad to see him go as we called him Chubby Hugs for obvious reasons but the best one was when we were on the monorail coming from Magic Kingdom to Epcot and did the loop around but on the ride before that, I mentioned to my husband that we hadn't seen Duffy yet. His mind went totally blank on the name but when he saw Duffy was out, he shouted, and I mean shouted, IT'S CHUBBY HUGS!!!!!!! The entire monorail car just busted out laughing.

Absolutely. Anyone who thinks Duffy "isn't popular" has no idea how HUGE he is in Japan. People push their bears around in strollers & there are special Duffy photo ops (for bears only). The LE Duffy merchandise sells faster than LE Star Wars merchandise does here. He might not have caught on in the States, but Duffy is a big commercial success for Disney.

When i was there a couple of weeks ago, i asked various cast members about Duffy leaving and none of them knew anything about it, but i have read on here that CM's dont always know so go with what theme park insider says.
Still merch there though. Downtown Disney they had duffy costumes for the plush toy, which included christmas and halloween outfits.
They selling the book and purse aswell.

I am very sad that Duffy will be leaving My girls loved him!

However, with the new info about Daisy taking over the spot....is there any idea what this Daisy will be wearing? Weird question...I know...

When I told DS8 tonight (who owns 2 Duffy bear plush), he said he sure hopes the goodnight story on the resort TV isn't cancelled as well. I know a lot of people despised the regular cartoon interruption during the evening hours, but he always looked forward to the nights we were back at the room "early enough" to tell Duffy goodnight.

That's too bad. Will they still sell the merchandise do you think? DD wants the plush with a couple costumes for Christmas and I was waiting for a sale on line. We saw so many "duffy fans" this summer. One girl had a t-shirt, purse, Duffy ears etc. My kids like listening to the Duffy story on the tv at night before bed time.
