Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

sister-in-law's boyfriend has the flu (B). They told him ibuprofen, dayquil and fluids...don't think that's going to work for Coronavirus..

That's exactly the treatment recommended for Coronavirus (minus the DayQuil). The vast majority of cases are quite mild, like a cold.

As a professional scientist, my opinion is that they're going to find that Coronavirus is far less deadly than the 2% mortality rate that's been reported, due to the non-diagnosis of the milder cases. Once it spreads into a more medically-prepared country a better idea of the actual mortality rate will probably emerge.

DD1 is going to WDW in mid-April with the school band. At this time, there has been no discussion of cancelling that trip.
DD2 is going to France and Spain on a school trip at the same trip. With the reported cases in Spain and Italy, the situation is being closely monitored. As of right now, there are no plans for cancelling.

Given that the comment you are quoting is from the 11th and it's the 28th I'm sure more information has been found out or confirmed as a good protocol..

I am introvert and could be snowed in for a week or more and be perfectly content. Being locked in a stateroom with recirculated air on a cruise ship for an indefinite period of time? No thanks.

Yeah, especially if you're in a room without a balcony, and just have a tiny porthole. Or worse yet, one of those rooms that doesn't even have a porthole. :crazy2: I would seriously lose my mind.

We are going to Cali for spring break (just under 3 weeks!!!!) to see DD#2, and DD#1 is supposed to fly in. We are keeping an eye on things. If we feel the situation is getting to uncomfortable levels for us, we'll reschedule the trip and just stay home. The hotels (one at DL for 2 nights, and the ones for the night before the flights there/home) are refundable until the week before. I think Jetblue might let us cancel without penalty (I'm not sure if we are in the time they are allowing cancellations for, I'll have to check) and just give us credits for us to use later.

ETA: With DH's medical situation, we tend to be more cautious than some other people, our girls included.

My sister is supposed to visit during her Spring Break in April (she's a teacher) to help with some health issues we're having with our parents. She would be flying from one of the busiest airports to one of the busiest. We've put it on hold until we have a better feel for what's going on because my parents have compromised immune systems. I know the flu is deadly, but there's Tamilu if you catch it fast enough and it's easy to get tested for the flu. There's not enough Coronavirus tests and the ones out there aren't very reliable.

But in Italy the problem they are having it's not so much the mortality rate but the high numbers of patients who require intensive therapy beds...

We have a cruise booked for May and I am not canceling it. I may decide to drive instead of fly if air travel is deemed too risky but thats about it. I think just like everything else in this day and age - its blown up. I will wait it out.
Well, as I said up-thread, we have no intentions of cancelling our May cruise either, but today I did purchase cancellation insurance, which we usually do anyway but had not in this case, for "reasons". We did not get a policy that has the voluntary-cancellations clause, just specified perils, particularly government travel bans, which I am becoming concerned about given the degree of seeming hysteria that is growing daily.

We have a March 31st flight from Israel to WDW. Seems to me by that time it won't really matter as it will be a global widespread infection. My only reason to consider cancellation is that we're leaving DS2 with my mom, and I don't want to get stuck away from him for longer than planned (12 days total). We have insurance so can cancel at the last moment.

We don't have any travel planned. But DD22 flew from Ohio to Texas last weekend and will be traveling from Ohio to Georgia next weekend. She's not planning on rescheduling.

I have a trip to Disney world in November right now no plans to cancel or change. I’m actually hoping the crowds will be lower.:rotfl2:

My dh got his approval for his travel budget so I was checking prices figuring they have gone down, but nope they went up. Was going to book our fall travel but I'll wait a little longer because I have a feeling prices are going to fall in the next month.
He also just found out he has to travel to the west coast in a couple weeks. It's for work so he doesn't have a choice right now.

We have a Med cruise in mid June. We figure it is so far away we will monitor the situation and see if things improve and can still go or if Royal Caribbean cancels or if we decide we need to even if they don’t closer to the time.

Son is scheduled to do summer abroad in Florence, Italy this year. They are currently recalling the students who are there for Spring. Who knows if he will be goi g or not. If he does go, we will spend two weeks there this summer as well.

I have a trip to Atlanta planned in April. I have no plans to cancel that atm.

I am reconsidering another trip to Ga/NC for May. It isn’t booked yet, and I’m immunosuppressed, so I’m less sure adding a new trip through the worlds busiest airport at this point is wise. I’m taking a wait & see approach

:scratchin This is an interesting one, given the current situation in Italy. There are apparently 6 towns/cities completely locked down right now, similar to Wuhan, but none of them are cruise ports.

We canceled a cruise for mid-May, more so over quarantine concerns and travel issues rather than actually contracting/getting seriously sick from coronavirus. Would much rather take the cruise when this has all blown over than risk missing ports and getting stuck somewhere. We are instead going to the smokey mountains, one day drive from home. Seems better in this situation.

Thank-you. I don't get the freaking out about this virus. Yes, people have died but more people have died from the flu. In China, +/- 3000 people have died from the coronavirus. That is approximately .00000230769 of that country's population

We just had our Majestic Princess cruise cut short.
We left Sydney on the 12th February and were due to arrive in Singapore on March 2nd. The cruise was cancelled after Fremantle on the 22nd February so we stayed on board over the weekend and then flew from Perth to Singapore and brought forward our original flight from there to London, arriving back in the UK earlier this week.
The cruise line have, so far, been generous with their compensation but it was still a great disappointment. Ironically, after a few days acting as a hotel in Fremantle, the ship eventually sailed to Singapore where it is scheduled for dry dock. Obviously the crew all remain on board but the potential liability surrounding the passengers has been removed thus preventing another Diamond Princess situation.
Next cruise is September, Southampton to New York via Iceland. No current plans to cancel.
