Is Coronavirus affecting your travel plans?

Corona Virus has been renamed COVID-19.

I bet there’s at least one company in the US with the name of COVID that is not happy with this news.

Has anyone seen the videos of the fogging of disinfectants going on in the streets of China? That’s some crazy stuff.

There is also a smog over China that they suspect is from burning bodies. 😣

I also read about a family that all got infected from sharing some sort of pot of food, like a fondue pot. They are looking into whether sharing utensils played a part, in addition to their being in a shared space.

Having been to China, I was wondering if their air quality had improved given the shutdown of transportation. Sounds like it may be impacted in other ways ☹

I'm in Florida...at work, was just in the bathroom...where they have the option for paper towels and one of the TURBO fan blowers...the kind pointing straight down...and someone else was using that. I realized that is a really BAD kind of drying mechanism for keeping droplets (of hands that aren't washed very well) away from others.

I know Mythbusters already tested this and found paper towels a lot "safer" in this regard, just brought it back to me seeing how much air was flying around. I also know that they have similar fans in places in Asia (Japan and Hong Kong), but not sure if/what they have in mainland china (I'm guessing a lot of places don't have any)

Did you have your mask and goggles on? 😷 🤓

I am confused by the quarantine process with the Diamond Princess. I keep reading that they are scheduled to be in quarantine until Feb. 19th. But they keep confirming new cases on board. So shouldn't the quarantine be 2 weeks from the last new diagnosis? (I know-that would really, really suck for those on board though.) But, otherwise, won't many, may people still be potentially contagious once they got off Feb 19th?

I was confused about this too. Earlier today I heard an interview on NPR with a US passenger on the ship. He explained that everyone who has developed symptoms and tested positive so far can be traced back to some amount of contact with people who were infected prior to the quarantine. He said it will be much more telling as they get another week into it to see if the new cases are decreasing as they get closer to that 14 day max incubation period, and if they can still trace those cases back to contact with the original set of people who had it. He said they are in their room and get 3 meals delivered per day with crew in masks & gloves. The captain made an announcement that each cabin is ventilated with fresh air, not recirculated, to try and alleviate concerns about it spreading that way.

I hadn't been on this thread for awhile, and when I opened it the first new one I read was Pea-N-Me at the end of Jan. describing how she thought a possible cruise ship quarantine would work ... and here it has happened and sounds almost exactly as she describes! Pretty smart!

The regular flu will be and is far more deadly. No. I don’t cancel anything because of the worries of catching the flu.

I was speaking to a friend who is nurse practitioner about this. She said that if you get your flu shot, are healthy, and you start TamiFlu right away after coming down with the flu your likelihood of hospitalization or death is greatly reduced. There's no cure or vaccine for the Coronavirus. She is hoping that the efforts to keep an outbreak of it from reaching the US are successful.

sister-in-law's boyfriend has the flu (B). They told him ibuprofen, dayquil and fluids...don't think that's going to work for Coronavirus..

Have not heard much about initial treatment...only hospitalization and drastic measures. Wish we knew more.
I feel badly for those on the cruise ship especially for the one couple who husband developed a high fever today and had been quarantined on the ship. He hasn't been tested yet...………………………………..Talk about feeling alone and isolated.

The cruise line just cancelled our Asia cruise that was to start next week on the sister ship to the one currently quarantined. Full refund plus a huge credit for future use.

Since we still have the PTO booked for the rest of the month, we're looking at possibly flying to Hawai'i, or maybe a trip to England with a Disneyland Paris visit.

events are being cancelled, even a long way from China. The Mobile World Conference 2020 that's being held in Barelona Spain was just cancelled due to Coronavirus fears.

Currently Spain has 3 reported cases.

Also, as of this point, there's still only 2 deaths outside of China as far as I know, and one was in HK

I suspect part of the reason of cancelling Mobile World Conference is due to a large number of people who would either attend, present, or have a booth there would be from Asia ... a lot of technology, component, & manufacturing firms. So likely a lot of them were needing to back out already. Not because travel to Barcelona or Spain right now is inherently dangerous due to the 3 cases.

Most definitely, I was just relaying the details and even though they only have 3 cases, what the potential for those flying in might bring.

Chris Those Turbofans make me crazy I was in a restroom today where they were turned on full blast. Paper towels are a much safer way to go with proven results. Great reporting!

It was so obvious China was underreporting cases of coronavirus. I’m wondering if they’ll now go back and report deaths from anyone that wasn’t confirmed with the virus. I bet the number of deaths is 10x what they are reporting.

It would be inaccurate to report a death from COVID-19 if the patient was not a confirmed case.
