I came to say this. It's neither. It's chili. You can have many kinds of chili just like you can have many kinds of stews and soups.

Yes. That’s the only time I ever use Heinz Chili Sauce. Always have a jar in the pantry.that's the stuff you mix with grape jelly and mini meatballs in a crockpot!
Wait, grape jelly, meatballs, and Chili Sauce? This is tasty?Yes. That’s the only time I ever use Heinz Chili Sauce. Always have a jar in the pantry.

Yes. I like to sometimes increase the amount of chili sauce to make it a bit spicier, but you have to know your audience.Wait, grape jelly, meatballs, and Chili Sauce? This is tasty?

I'm not a big fan, but it's better than you might think. It's the kind of thing people eat with toothpicks on those little paper plates. Hard to say who came up with the original concept, probably someone with a severe case of the munchies and limited supplies.Wait, grape jelly, meatballs, and Chili Sauce? This is tasty?
Okay. It was the first one that came up in my google search. Sigh.LOL. The queen of doctoring up prepared food and calling it here own. Her lunch prepared for the farm hands whose primary ingredient came from Panda Express is a classic episode.
I live in Cincinnati and I have never heard of someone just having a bowl of Skyline solo, just no. Skyline doesn't stand alone. So if Skyline is eaten plain, it's a stew but if eaten as a 5 way (over noodles), it then ceases to be a stew and becomes a sauce?
DH says it must be a soup because it seems
to always be listed under "Soup & Salad"
on restaurant menus.
you must be eating some thick-a$$ gumbo. I call it a soup.Maybe because you can get it served in a cup that can be used as an appetizer.Same with Gumbo.
And what about Gumbo? Is that a soup or a stew. I think of it as a stew.
A hill of beans?I'd lean towards stew, but it's not a hill I'd be willing to die on.
