Ok so I am not sure if my title is correct but DH just got me an Iphone. Both our dd's are getting Ipod Touches for Christmas my question is I am wondering if there is a way they can be "linked" together? Basically I want to be able to see what they load and do on their Touches. Is it possible to share what I would pay for as far as music and games? I currently have an Itunes account. But of course I do not want them to be able to use a credit card there. Looking through the basic directions that came with their devices it appears they need email addresses to face time with friends. Does that mean they actually need their own email addresses?

Help I am totally clueless!! :confused3

If you use the same iTunes account you can share games and apps. I think you can all do face time through the same email address.

My kids have to enter the email and password associated with iTunes every time they want to download something. I don't see any way of turning that off. Thus, you don't give the login info, they don't have access by themselves.

I have one iPod set to auto download whatever is downloaded on the other. If the iTunes is set up that way on the iPhone, you would see everything downloaded. Even if you don't auto download on the iPhone, you would see it in iTunes.

This is obviously with a shared iTunes account.

The devices can all be on the same iTunes account and that way they will be linked together.

You will be able to limit what the kids are able to download by not giving them the password for the iTunes account. But, that means that you will have to update their apps for them.

To make it possible for them to FaceTime on their own without every device on the account ringing when one person is being called, you will need to go into Settings and add a new, unique the email address for each device under FaceTime. They have to be real email addresses, so use aol or gmail to set them up. Then remove the email address that is associated with your iTunes account from just the FaceTime setting. Have your kids give their friends their unique FaceTime email address. Only their device will ring when someone is trying to contact that email.

Everyone in my family has their own iTunes account, I just monitor what dds are putting on their iPods. My girls got their iPods when they were 8 and 10 and we just gave them a list of rules to follow and we have never had an issue.

None of our iTunes accounts are linked to a credit card, all of us use gift cards to pay for apps, movies, and music.

As the kids get older, it is easier if everyone has their own accounts. To create an account not linked to a credit card, set it up initially using a gift card, or without a gift card using this method....

Make sure you are logged out of any account in iTunes. "Purchase" a free app. When it asks you to log in, create a new account. With this method you will get the option of None when you get to the payment screen. However, you won't get that option if you start with a paid app.

I have one iTunes account that is set up on all devices to require a password. Then, when I did the setup for each of my kids, I set up a new iCloud account on each device for email, FaceTime, iMessage, and backup. Once that is set up, you can go in to the settings to link the iTunes account. I also have mine set to automatically download any new purchases to my iphone so I can keep on eye on any apps we buy. One caution: your kids will be able to view purchased apps/songs in iTunes that are not on their devices, which means they can technically see anything you download also.

We have 2 iPads, 2 iPhones, & 3 iPod touches on one iTunes account.

I set up gmail addresses for the kids to FaceTime & IMessage. But, one account for iTunes and iCloud so I can track everyone's iPods with the find my iPhone app.

I use the restrictions setting disable iTunes and the safari web browser for the kids so they can't download anything without me approving it.
