IPOD opinions

i don't understand what the fascination with mp3 players and fm radios are? since i got my mp3 player, i have not listened to the radio once. i used to have a stereo in my bedroom, but i trashed it because i never listened to the radio, since i've got all the songs on my computer and i can just hook that up to speakers when i'm in there.

i don't mean to sound mean or anything. i'm honestly just curious why people love the fm radio on the mp3 player?

a name befitting you! Thanks for the background info. I am off to itunes and the Apple store for more reading! :wave2:

Thank you so much.

Thanks for all of the tips.

I've been researching today and the Nano looks good. I'm wondering about the Dell MP3 players. Any opinions on those?

if you are looking for something to "RECORD" music too I would recommend an IRiver. That is what I have. Just like the Ipods you can get different sizes and the cool thing about it is you can record from any ol cd/tape/radio player. So in reality you do not even need to have internet access to get music. So what I did with mine is put my fav cd's on it (straight from my sons boombox), and then I found a really cheap website to get the music from. $.10 cent dl's. I can't believe more people dont have this has it is more compact than alot of other mp3's a little cheaper, but you have more ways to gt music ither than the traditional downlaod...and it also has plays fm stations as well.

Would you mind sharing with us what website you are getting the .10 dls from? I would LOVE to know!

We have both an I pod mini (for my daughter) and a Dell DJ. They both are pretty much the same. I like the Dell better 00 I think it is easier to use. My daughter likes her pink mini -- the coolness factor has a lot to do with it I'm sure. It really depends on how much you want to spend and how much you will use it. We got out Dell 20 Gig for about the same price as my daughter's 4 gig mini. It holds a lot more songs and has a LOT longer battery life. I'm sure you'll be fine in whatever you decide to get. :sunny:

I love my Ipod.

We researched fro three years all different types and brands and Ipod still came up on top.

For kids, the coolness factor is the Ipod. I've seen it in the schools that I have worked in, that the Ipod is the "cool-in" standard.

There are Ipods that may be on clearance if you look at an Ipod store. Or if you are an educator or a college student you can get a discount.

We use www.allofmp3.com I am not affiliated with this site in anyway, but this is the one we use.

As for Ipods for 9-10 year olds, I may consider giving my son (11 then) a shuffle or a mini for Christmas.

Try a MuVo from Creative electronics. They are around $65-$70 at Wal-Mart (but only come in white there). They work just like a MP3 and you plug it into your computer and down load music or audiobooks (works like a separate drive so you can save document on it, too) They do come in great colors elsewhere. Try OfficeDepot.com They might get cheaper towards Christmas. I'm keeping my eye on them for my 7 year old!

DS spent lots of bucks for a Nomad (like the regular ipod) that holds tons of music, has the screen etc. Great player and very easy. DH insisted that if he was spending that much money, he had to buy one that had a replaceable battery - ipod did not.

This year got all 3 kids ipod shuffles to take on vacation......they love them.....DS rarely uses the bigger-brained one when he is mobile.....and now I think I'm going to get one for me. (much less $ so battery wasn't an issue - but still got service plan on all of them).

Down side for older kids may be the lack of choice of what you listen to....it either plays in order or random, but if you have a good selection in there it is great for most instances.

i've had a shuffle for around a half a year now and i've never had battery trouble. i can play it for around a day without the battery failing on me, which in my opinion is pretty darn good. i've had a 10gb 2nd gen ipod now for 4 years now and i didn't have a problem with the battery until about a year ago when i noticed that it started getting shorter, but that's my fault because i left it plugged in all the time. it gave my battery a memory. my boyfriend is having the same problem with his 3rd gen that's only 2 years old. he leaves it plugged into the dock all day and it never fully charges. apple has really become better with the battery life since 2001, when the first ipod came out (my sister had that one). i've even noticed the amazing battery power i have with my new powerbook as opposed to my old 2001 ibook. it's about twice as long.

iggbees, I have no problem with getting a shuffle and recommend them. Out of three ipod shuffles in the house, one has already been replaced (under service plan) when battery failed after 4 mos. We are okay with it because we had service plan and because it is reasonable. I have heard they have gotten better, but we just couldn't justify almost $300 on the larger version ipod w/out the replaceable battery. These are pretty sophisticated pieces of small equipment and things are bound to happen.

If you do a search on the net, there are many sites that sell replacement batteries with instructions and pictures of how to change them.

If you enter "mp3" in the search box at the top of the home page it brings you to 5 pages of mp3's, but no Ipods.

But supposedly officedepot was having 20% off on ipods this week but I can't find anything about it. I read it on here somewhere.

We got our DS 17 an Ipod mini for his graduation, he loves it!!! I got DH one yesterday, for his b-day, since our DS loves his so much. My DS has had his for 5 months, and has had no problems at all, he really likes it, and uses it a lot. Good Luck, let us know what you decide on.
