IPOD opinions

But supposedly officedepot was having 20% off on ipods this week but I can't find anything about it. I read it on here somewhere.

I just did a search on here and found a post about Ipods being 20% off in the stores this week so maybe it's an in-store sale only. Unfortunately for me, the closest Office Depot is about 2 hours south. :sad2:

found this online about the 20% off.

"Office Depot will be cutting all iPod prices by up to 20% this next week starting Sunday the 21st. The prices for each iPod assuming the maximum 20% decrease will be:

30gig 4G $279.99
20gig 4G $219.99
4gig Mini $159.99
1gig Shuffle $103.99
512Meg Shuffle $79.99

Note that these are all the discontinued Apple + HP models.

Also note that selection varies by store, while supplies last, no rain checks, and available IN STORES ONLY."

to give a little background about the apple + HP models. HP severed their ties with apple because i don't they weren't making enough money on the ipods that they were buying from apple. they also want to come up with their own solution to the ipod, but aren't allowed to do so for another year because their contract with apple doesn't end until the beginning of 2007.

i'm not sure what kinds of ipods they are going to have, whether they are the old 4th gen version in black and white, or the new ones in color.

the other thing you could do is look at your local sams, costco, or bj's. they have a limited selection (only silver in the mini), but they have them at a discounted price as well.

good luck.

Wow, Thanks for all of the replies. I think that I have decided to get the Nano for DS20 and I think that I will get a SHuffle for DH's birthday in a couple of weeks. After a few days of research, I realized that my DH who works out daily would love it.

I'm still unsure about DD9. She will sometimes play the same song over and over so I think not being able to select the songs would be a negative for her. I'm just can't think of any "great" gift for her.

Just so you know, she can just hit the "back" arrow on the shuffle and repeat the same song as many times as she would like.

I just opened my ipod shuffle from Judysbook today and I have a question. I read the directions on charging the battery and it said to charge it until the light turns green and that the first charge should take four hours. Mine finished charging after 45 minutes. I was listening to it and it cut out after about 8 songs. I plugged it in again and the light turned green after 45 minutes. I am going to leave it plugged in for four hours, but I am wondering what others did the first time they charged these. Any help?

did you try pressing the button on the back that looks like a little bar to see if your ipod is fully charged? if it's fully charged and you're still having a problem with it cutting out on songs, it might be that the song file is corrupted or the ipod doesn't like the song. my boyfriend has this problem with his shuffle sometimes, specifically with one of the songs he has.

when you're charging the ipod, it's good to unplug it after it's green and then let it cool for like 30 min and plug it back in. if the ipod gets too heated up when charging, it shuts the charging off and tells you it's full, but it isn't really full.

The button was showing green, but I will try unplugging it now. It will give me a chance to go eat dinner. How did he know which song it didn't like?

if you try playing it in sequential mode and follow along with your list on itunes. that's really the only way. good luck!

Thanks! I will give that a try if I am still having problems. Stupid Question: Does it matter when you are charging if the ipod is on or off? I would assume as long I am seeing the amber/green light it is in the correct position.

i don't think so, but i'm not sure. i always leave it in the off position when i'm charging. you should see the light, so if you see that, it's working.

I am not going to hold my breath but I think it was one of the songs. It cut out in the same spot and I didn't turn it off. After a minute or so the next song started to play. I'll have my husband reload all of my songs tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for all your help!! :wave2:

I've been trying to search officedepot.com for ipods or mp3 players with no luck. How do you find them ontheir site?
I just checked Office Depot, too. Sorry, that site idea came from a friend it must have been another "Office" website? But I did check WalMArt and they have them for $64.93 (in white). Sorry for the wrong info

The Office Depot iPod+HP offer is listed under the "Advertised Specials" link on the site.

I just bought my DD an iPod shufle for Christmas. I wanted to make sure that I could work it before I give it to her. I downloaded itunes from the Apple website, but Ic an't get my CD drive to work on my computer to install the iPod software. Any idea if I can donwload the software or what to do? I'm at a lost, can't figure out why my CD drive doesn't work!

I know nothing about ipods. But, if you decide to get one, check the prices at a local college bookstore. If they are a seller of Apple, even the ipods will be at educator prices, likely the cheapest in town.

bargain tip: if you are an educator or some how you can get your son to go with you and show is student id (or just buy it online, as long as you put that it's for him) you can get a student discount. it's about 20$ off of the nano and about 30$ off for the 20 gb ipod. other than that there's no other way to get around paying a lot of money for one. also, you could check on amazon, they sometimes have discounts, but most likely nothing more than what you'd get for the student pricing.

Thank you SO much for this tip! We just ordered from the website using this discount (my DH teaches at a university). We went ahead and ordered for Christmas because a sales person at Best Buy said that it was going to be very hard to get a Nano for Christmas (he said, "Bring a big stick with you when you come to buy one because you will have to fight everyone else for one." They don't have any left at the moment).

I was even more excited about ordering online because they gave us the option to have FREE engraving! So we put our DDs names on it (that way there is no chance of getting it mixed up with someone elses).

Anyway, just wanted to thank you for this tip. Looks like we have Christmas covered now. I told my girls if they got these that was ALL they got for Christmas, but that is what they want. Can't wait to see them when they come.

Ok - I really need iPod for dummies :confused3 I got itunes downloaded, got the apple iPod software loaded, but can someone tell me if we have 3 iPods (one for each of my DD's) can they each load different songs on their iPods? This whole thing has me totally confused :badpc:

Tammy,
Yes they can. Here's what we do:

We set the iTunes so that it doesn't automatically load all the songs to the iPod when it is plugged in to the computer.

We have different folders. For example, I have one for audible books that I download to my iShuffle. (You could then set up a separate folder for each daughter on iTunes and they could park all their music in their folder. )

Then, when we plug the iPod in, we just pick up the correct folder (or item in a folder) and drag and drop it over to the iPod....
