Iphone 6

Sorry I am reading comments and I love iPhones so I have to comment again, this may make a difference if you are in the fence about the price. Someone mentioned trade in. If you have an iPhone 4, 4s, 5c, 5 you can trade it in for up to $200 AT&T credit, 5s can be traded in for up to $300. So, I am trading in my iPhone 5 for $200 b/c its in good condition. Basically pays for my phone since I have the 2 year contract for $200. I just pay taxes. Only downside, which is not for me since I am a customer already, is that the credit in form of a gift card is to be used only for AT&T products, accessories and to pay the bill. Offer ends 9-30.

Check out their website, there are a lot of trade in promotions out there to offset the hefty price. Amazon I believe will do trade ins too, not too sure what it entails though.
Wal-mart already lowered the price to $179.

There is a lot of confusion about the trade in. I was an existing AT&T customer. The first store I went to said I could not use it towards the new phone but I could use it on the bill. The second store said I could not use it towards the phone or the bill, only for products in the store. Both places I said I would think about it since I wanted to do more research, I wasn't comfortable with either of them. The third store I went to took my trade-in and applied it towards the new phone. I finally got someone who knew what they were doing. :cool1:

Yay! glad to heat someone was able to do that for you. I hope I don't run into problems trying to apply the promotional card to my bill.

Are you on a contract? I thought these phones are $600+? How can they sell it to you for a low price without adding $50 per month to your bill?

I ordered a 6+ for $300 on a 2 year contract. Verizon is giving me $200 for trading in my 4. If I got the 6, the phone would have been free, but I will end up paying $100 for the bigger version. Plus my monthly bill is going down a lot (switched from ATT to Verizon).

I just bought my DH the iphone 6 64 G for $300 outright but it does add $40 to our bill every month because of the need ATT has to gouge its customers who do not do the NEXT program.

I haven't traded anything in yet. I was going to do the $200 off an ipad deal they have but you have to buy the phone on NEXT and I am doing that right now and think its dumb to pay more for the phone and will never do it again.

I'm pretty sure the $40 is a one time fee which most carriers have for upgrade or activation. It should not be every month unless you changed your plan.

This isn't buying the phone outright, it's subsidizing it. You are putting $300 down and the $40 a month ($15 access fee and $25 towards the phone) are payments for the phone. You don't actually own it until your two years are paid in full. The Next program is leasing to own. You put no money down and the payments are divided up into to 20 or 24 months at which time you will then own the phone. The biggest difference is that you can pay off the Next phone at any time and it belongs to you and the payments will be removed from your bill. You can trade at 12 or 18 months if you choose, they'll waive the rest of the payments and you can start over which is essentially trading in for $2-300. If you are not on a mobile share plan when on contract you will continue to pay the extra money on a contract phone even after the contract is over. In the end, after two years you are paying the same price whether you have Next or contract. If you are still on an old plan, you will be paying more on contractsince those payments continue after the contract is up.

I have a 6 ordered on Next. I will put the price of a trade in towards it and then pay it off after the first of the year. Can't wait to get it, I'm especially excited about the camera and Apple Pay.

So the total cost of the phone is basically $900? $300 + 24 * $25? It seems like they are intentionally trying to scam people but not revealing the true cost of the phone.

Your right about IOS 8 supporting the 4s. I have family that still have the 4 cause they liked it before it got bigger and bigger wonder how it works.

My dd was upgraded to a 5s (when it first came out) - but only the 16G, and the IOS8 needs 5G, she says she doesn't have that much memory!

yep, you subsidize it

I would like to get one but I do like my 5. What kind of plug does the 6 have and what is the advantage to upgrade?

It seems right when I get use to my phone a new one comes out and I want the next one.

DH says the iPad plug is perfect

That's the cost of the phone plus tax, yes. They aren't scamming anybody, it's all there in black and white when you sign the contract. It was that way before iPhones, you enter a 2yr contract, you're subsidizing a phone, period.

I had the same issue! Deleted some apps I didn't
use a lot... But it was a pain lol.

So, yesterday I looked at my bill. I pay my line, which is not the main line so it $9.99 and I pay $30 for my 3gb of data. I know next month I will pay the upgrade fee, so is there an access fee and $25 fee for my phone I am not seeing? Or is it new? I've had AT&T for 5-6 years and I haven't looked at my bill that closely since the payments are consistent, which is bad.

You can buy a contract-free full priced iPhone 6 with 64 GB of memory for $749.00.

So the finance charges for paying for it through the length of the contract adds another $150 to the final cost.

Our sales guy had it all spelled out on paper in a way that made sense to me. Your three options with AT&T are:

1- Pay $750 for the phone. (This is the 64 gig 6- which I think is also the same price at the 16gig 6 plus.)

2. Pay $750 for the phone, with no interest, over 24 months. This is the option I went with and added $31.25 to the phone bill, and still keeps my additional line price at $15/month. (This is AT&T NEXT.)

3. Sign a 2 year contract, additional line goes back up to $40/month from $15, and pay $299 for the phone, plus $40 activiation fee (waived with the NEXT program.)

With option 1 and 2 you are paying $750 for the phone. With Option 3, you are paying $299 + $25*24 * $40= $939 for the phone. No one is really getting this phone for "free" or $199/$299.

Most of the time, it takes more memory to install than the actual upgrade requires after installation is finished because of the extra space it needs to move files around. She can probably remove apps/music, install the upgrade, then replace the apps/music

Interesting and disheartening lol. I will have to look into AT&T Next now.

I plan to keep my phone for at least 2 years and didn't mind paying the $300 upfront (for the +), so the Next program wasn't a good option for me. My monthly charges for text, talk, and data went down (I switched from ATT to Verizon). Of course, you have to be eligible for an upgrade and willing to sign a contract, but aside from the activation fee, it is possible to get a "free" phone since both Verizon and ATT are both offering $ to trade in your old iPhones.

ATT is definitely pushing the Next plan and discouraging people from signing the 2 year contracts. No wonder because in the end they get full price for the phone plus your monthly charges! The ATT guy sat down and drew out the ol' car dealership cost chart for me and that's when I walked. Can't stand the shadiness. :furious:

The price of your phone is just worked into your plan and when your two years are up, you will *still* be paying that price even though your phone is technically paid off. With Next or Edge or whatever plan your carrier's plan is, once the phone is paid off that price drops off the bill after two years and you own the phone. If anything the Next program is more transparent than a plan where the contract price is just rolled over and continues even after the contract is up. You are still paying the full price, no matter what.

Can you clarify the bolded? I'm not sure I'm understanding you.

It is my understanding that only shared data plans are affected and that if you don't have shared data plans, your data plan charges will remain the same with no additional monthly access charge.

Yep, by signing that contract, you are giving up a line discount that you would otherwise be eligible for -- so in the end, so you are still paying more for the phone, just worded in a different way.
