Those that did not, are you using other insurance? If so, where?

Thanks

I did just in case - you never know what's going to happen and I'm going in late September which is prime for hurricanes, LOL!!!

I didn't know this, the CM told me that if you get sick (**knock on wood**) the insurance will help you pay for medical care or if your luggage gets lost the insurance will cover the lost luggage.

We don't purchase the insurance. We book land through Disney and airfare through the airlines. As I understand it only land would be covered on the insurance if we cancled. Seeing the the fee for canceling under 6 days is $200 I don't think the insurance is needed. Once down to that last week it is very unlikely that we would cancel. Sure we would cancel if one of us was very ill but even then I consider the acutal loss to be small.

During our March 2006 trip to Disneyland we did purchase the insurance. Their policy is different. If canceled under 22 days (I think might be less) you owe 50% of the package price. On that trip we had booked air fare so it was covered by insurance. Our flight was canceled the day of the trip which caused a 10 1/2 hour delay of our trip. We lost basically the entire day in DL. So I tried to claim it on the insurance and was told "Sorry the for trip delay to be covered it must be 12 or more hours". Needless to say I was upset and felt the insurance was worthless.

As far as hurricane season goes, if you read the trip insurance coverage they only cover weather claims if

"Inclement Weather or the occurrence of a Natural Disaster that causes complete cessation of travel services at the point departure and/or Destination".

Last time there were hurricane problems , as I understand it, once the State of Florida came out and asked people not to travel to FL when a hurricane was coming, hotels and airlines would allow people to reschedule their trips without penalties. I'm hoping for the same if it happens this year.

I suggest that before you add insurance (if booking allows you to add it later at no additional charge besides the cost of the insurance) that you request a brochure and read it fully. Then you can decided what is best for you.

I think if you have to fly, then insurance is good to have, but if you are close then maybe not.:goodvibes

I got insurance from another source. It included trip interruption as well as cancellation insurance. We felt it was worth it since we'll be traveling during hurricane season. It cost us a little more than Disney, because with Disney my son (6) would have been free. The coverage is so much more comprehensive we felt it was worth it. There are websites that will give you rates and comparisons for free. We used www.insuremytrip.com

From what I read air travel is now included even if you didn't book it with Disney. I got this from Disney's site:

We're going at the end of August and I bought the insurance, which I normally do not do at other times of the year. It's not so much that you might not get there. My concern is that you ARE at WDW and at the end of your stay a hurricane hits. Then you're stuck trying to find and pay for a hotel, rearranging your return flights, etc. I called the insurance company and talked through the various scenarios -- including the fact that I purchased my air on my own -- got names and times and feel comfortable with the purchase.

after hearing so much this last year with airline fiascos we decided to buy enough insurance just to cover our airfare and Discovery Cove. We thought we'd take our chances with Disney as the worst we'd lose is one night's stay--I think. This made insurance a lot cheaper($60), but we still have some peace of mind. (Or rather I do, as DH did it just to make me happy:rolleyes1 )
