Insulin Pump

Does anyone know if an insulin pump can go through the security checks at the airport? I would really like to take it off and hand it to someone without it going through the basket (with shoes etc.) or on me through the walk through screener. Will they let me remove it and check it manually? I don't want it ruined.

Yes you are allowed. They may (and probably will) inspect it

It might not be a good idea to go through the scanner. Just because TSA will permit you to wear it doesn't mean it's a good idea. I have read reports of pumps being damaged or destroyed by the scanners. Frankly, you are likely to alarm the detector and be subject to a body search anyway.

In this situation, the manufacturer said that radiation was the problem, so taking the pump off and putting it through the x-ray is probably also a bad idea.

My daughter has an insulin pump and I just pointed it out to the TSA agent while going through security. Believe it or not they more of an issue about it going thru our small airport (Albany, NY) than in Orlando. No issues with the pump not working.

Thanks again. I will be fluing out of Atlantic City, which is a very small airport. I'm not sure how far advanced the will be on dealing with this, but I've decided I am not going to take the chance and will insist they inspect the pump without it going through any screening. Better to be safe than sorry.
