Does your health insurance company cover circumcision for non-medical reasons?
In countries like Canada where there is socialized medicine, they do not pay for it. When Canada stopped covering circumcision, the rates dropped dramatically. The rates in the US are steadily dropping IMO due in part to private insurance companies not paying for it anymore.
Our insurance company does not cover it and according to the information I recieved for registration at the hospital for delivery, the cost would have been about $800. We did not circumcise DS, although not for that reason so it was a moot issue for us.
For those of you who DID choose to circumcise, did you pay out of pocket? When was this? Do you know if it has changed since then?
Also, does anyone know is public assistance healthcare in the United States pays for circumcision?
What are your thoughts? Should it be covered?
