We've been going 9 years and never needed any repellant. We used to take some but don't bother now. You could alwways get it there if you do find it a problem. I want to say we've never been bitten but that's tempting fate!
Mossies love my blood and always get eaten alive if I don't put repellant on in the hot summer evenings. I forgot once during our trip in August 2003 and while waiting for a bus a AKL I was covered in bites.
I find the Boots one with DEET works very well. They also do a suncream with built in insect repellant for day time use.
There is also an Avon skin cream that acts a repellant - can't remember the name though
Also read that taking a vitamin B supplement makes your blood taste yucky to mossies.
We have never used it an no bites at WDW, however if you go to space kennedy centre it is a must!(just ask dh who was the only one that didnt use it on that day out )
As it happens the time you're going is a relatively good time of year for mozzies. Summer/early autumn is worse as it's generally hotter/wetter.
During the day at WDW I think you'd be unlikely to have a problem. it's still possible in the evenings.
A product we used last year (in Corfu in July which is worse than WDW in Apr) is Boots Soltan aftersun with insect repellent. Quite nice to use in the evening particularly if you have caught the sun a bit during the day.
we usually use OFF!, it comes in a can you spray on. We only ever use it if we go to play mini golf, as you tend to get bitten alive and not even realise
WDW property is sprayed to kill the insects, so there is more of a problem with bites off Disney property and as mentioned before Keenedy Space Center is particularly bad.
On our second trip (2002) there was a letter in our hotel room advising us to use insect repellant as the mossies now carry West Nile Virus (I believe similar effects to CJD) but I don't know if this is still a problem.
We don't usually bother either! Mind you I don't very often get bitten (must be because I eat marmite most days!!) We are going to try the horse trail ride this year-so I will take some as i read somewhere that its advised. DH is prone to bites if mozzies are about-serves him right for hating marmite!
Sometimes I get eaten alive, other times they don't come near me . As others have said, WDW sprays relentlessly, so you may not have a problem there. What I do know is that when I do get bitten I always wish I'd packed the DEET. Remember that the mossies are active early morning and during the evening so it's probably more important to spray before you go out in the evening than before heading off for the parks in the morning.
Oh, and sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I take a daily supplement rich in B vitamins and I'm also a big Marmite fan, but I was still a gourmet-fest for the mossies of St Lucia last week.
We've never been bitten at WDW with the exception of at Animal Kingdom last year when we all got bitten alive. It was about 7:30-8pm in July and they closed the park a bit early because of the mosquito's. One of the CM's was going banana's because they hadn't sprayed as usual. Other than that, no problems. Apparently either Orange or Osceola County(WDW straddles both) used to be called Mosquito County but they changed the name for fear of alarming the tourists!!
Elsewhere in Florida we always use insect repellant as soon as the sun starts to set.
just to second or is it third it - we were also eaten alive at Kennedy Space Centre - but that was the only place in a 10 day trip... Mind you, we were not out much in the evenings - SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPP was needed.
