Information on upgrading rooms at AKL

O.K. - I know this has been a thread before, but I'm new here and am not sure
what thread I read on this topic. So, I'll apologize up front if this is a redundant question...
Going to AKL in first week of Dec. and booked a standard view room. I hear you can
ask for an upgrade to a savannah view room if there is one available. When asking for an
upgrade, are you then also charged the price difference? Or, does the CM just
find an upgrade and you're in?

DONALD38, welcome to the Dis! I hope you enjoy your AKL stay. It is my favorite resort.

As far as upgrades are concerned, most people are asked to pay for them. However, Disney magic does happen sometimes, and you might (might) be lucky enough to receive a free upgrade. My humble opinion is, though, that if you really want a particular view or room category, it is best to book it. That way your expectations will be met, thus adding to your vacation enjoyment. By the way, no matter what room category you have, I hope you have a wonderful vacation. Thanks for your response. Hope some "magic" does come our way. And to beleive that I originally
had a savannah view room and then changed it to standard view when DH felt the savannah view room
wasn't worth the extra money. I'm willing to pay for the upgrade if that's what it takes, that is if
there will be a room available. Hearing so many wonderful things about the Lodge, I'm sure we'll
love it no matter where we stay there. We're also very easy to please, especially while we're at
WDW. I'm amazed to hear complaints about WDW - we love it there and can't wait until Dec.
