My DD16's counselor's DD is getting married in a few months. We've been with the counselor for a while, and were thinking it would be nice to make a (small, inexpensive) gesture. The daughter lives out of state, so it would have to be something we could send with her mom. I think her mom is going to her shower, so maybe a Godiva gift card for the bride?

How thoughtful of you!!! I think anything would be great....but what's better than chocolate?!?!?!?!

Who wouldn't love Godiva! A very thoughtful idea that I'm sure mother and daughter will appreciate.

One thing to keep your eyes out for might be a nice ring holder. One of my favorite students gave me one as a wedding gift and I use it still today. There are nice porcelain ones as well as crystal ones.

:wizard:A sentimental gift of a first xmas ornament is usually appreciated and relatively only as expensive as you choose to make it. Several places have these which can be engraved with names or initials or dates. Or crafters often have bride/groom ornaments which they can personalize for you.

Hallmark and some gift shops carry a line called Willow Tree. They are really nice carvings that represent all different occasions: weddings/love, children, families, etc. We received one for a wedding gift and absolutely loved it and have added to our collection since then. My husband gave me one for my bday and the birth of our first daughter. Other people have also bought them for us since they know we love them. My SIL gave us one when our second daughter was born and I gave my husband one representing him as a new father. They are about $20-$25. We give them a lot as gifts to friends and family for all different events and everyone loves them and ends up adding to their collections as well.

I just got done making a wedding gift right before jumping on Dis. Ours a little something extra and personal to go along with cash, but I think alone is a wonderful gift. I got the idea because 16 years ago someone made one for me it it is the only wedding gift I still have on display.

Anyway, you take thsir invitation and matt it and frame it. I used 4 matts that complimented their invite and embelished the outer matt with pearls and small silk flowers. You can make it really pretty, I am so happy with the way the one I made turned out, and including the frame it cost me less then $25.

Not to say I don't think the chocolate will be nice, who doesn't like chocolate? But this they will have forever. In all the moves we have made, this is the one thing that has hung on a wall in every house we have lived in. I am hoping our friends feel the same way about the one I just made for them.

Wow, MickeyMomOfThree, what a beautiful idea! I think I will do this for my friends who are tying the knot this fall. I am sure they will cherish this gift! Great idea!! As for OP, I think the framing invitation or Godiva gift card are good ideas. Chocolate...who can resist it?!

Were you invited to the wedding? If so, take the invitation and frame it. My sister did that for my wedding, and I have it hanging up in our room! It is great to have the invitation out, instead of in a box. I have done it for weddings I have been invited to and they rave about it!! You can get the frame for about $10 and a mat for $5.

We've been going to our counselor for 5-10 years & she's great, so I just wanted to give a little something to acknowledge her family event. Love the invite idea- my oldest daughter recently got engaged, so I'll do this for her, thanks!

How about a collection of your favorite recipes and maybe some of your favorites from other people as well? On a computer disk or on nice recipe cards? Very little expense at all, but a bit personal.

My husband's boss gave us an engraved frame with the date of the wedding. It is one of my favorite gifts, looking back nearly ten years!

I also think that a gift card is always appreciated!

How about sending 2 bottles of wine; one red and one white with the year 2009 on the label. You could write a note in the card that they could enjoy one bottle on their 10th and the other on their 20th, or something similiar.

I bought a bottle of wine when I got married back in 1992 and still haven't opened it!

One of my favorite wedding presents came from a neighbor who was unable to attend our wedding.

It is a simple oval frame, that holds about a 5x7 photo.

There are many nice frames that are not that expensive!

Or instead...what about a "mother's brag book" i.e. a little photo album for the counselor that she can show her DD's wedding pics, of course, this wouldn't necessarily be for the bride...click this link

Know of any charities/causes they support? Have a bunch of pictures of animals? Know they have a diabetic family member or something like that? How about a charitable contribution in their honor? Most charities, big and small, will send a card saying that a donation has been made in their name-- We recently had a co-workers daughter get married and while we really didnt know them enough to go to the wedding, we did get an invite. I had heard stories about the puppy they adopted so we made a donation to the local humane society in their honor. They received a really nice card saying we sent the $$ in thier honor, and they must've liked it because my co-worker gave the same thing to another person a few months later.
OH YES, and we got the tax deduction (wasn't much, but hey, if you end up having several gifts like this in a year it adds up!).

We got SIX framed versions of our wedding invitation. More than we could possibly fit into our first apartment. And, there is NOTHING to do with the extra four except recycle them.

If you don't know how them well enough to guess how many crafty friends they have, I'd go with a frame or the recipes.
