Yeah, I've read the points guidelines before but I was confused by the PP's comment that you can't see them or know when they expire. I guess my question is about the process of them being doled out. I had assumed you'd get a PM from a Mod that was something like:

You've been given XX points for [insert violation here] that will expire on [date]. They offending post is copied below:
"Blah, blah, personal attack, blah, political statement, blah, blah, follow this link and donate to my worthy cause."
Not anymore.

I got points recently for a "minor personal attack" simply because i referred to an OP's most recent post, and it didn't tell me when they expired. I was told that it was not nice to direct quote something that another had said previously on a different thread. And then it went on and talked about how "Mom" was monitoring the children on the DIS and fighting wouldn't be tolerated by any of the children, regardless of "who started it". I was accused of being sarcastic, which was ironic because it was one of the times where I wasn't at all. I was simply offering what I thought was pretty good advice. I thought it was funny that I'm 49 years old and was chastised on a Disney forum!

Do you know that website Bidding For Travel? It used to be a really hopping site with all kinds of great information about winning Priceline bids. Those winning bids were the moderator's bread and butter, it is what brought people to her website and gave her advertisers clicks. Then, Sheryl got extremely heavy handed and started to ban people left and right for the slightest of reasons. The website is now a shell of what it used to be.

I've never really cared for that website. Betterbidding is far better with a lot more people posting their prices. However, the main mod in betterbidding is a bit rude to those who don't follow protocol or use the links from the website to bid. Once ones understands the rules though, the place is a wealth of information and has saved me a lot of $$.

Seriously? Wow.

For clarification, from the DISboards Guidelines:

13. INFRACTIONS
The DIS guidelines are an important part in keeping the site family friendly. While the majority of our visitors abide by our rules, there are times when problems develop. In order to handle these issues consistently and fairly, we have developed an infraction system.

As you can see, the infractions have different point values. The majority of offenses will result in a warning via private message accompanied by infraction points which will expire according to schedule. Providing that you do not accumulate more points during that time, no further action should be needed. The more serious violations will result in additional penalties or an immediate banning.

If you do incur an infraction, you will be notified. If you wish to question or appeal this decision, please keep in mind that your correspondence is subject to the same regulations. At any time you may contact the board administration at admin@wdwinfo.com.

There may be times where a situation develops that is not covered in our infraction system. For those cases we reserve the right to take whatever action is needed in order to ensure that our guidelines are followed.

Chastising with sarcasm- irony.

If we're getting points now for being sarcastic, I think we're all screwed.

Not sure it was supposed to be sarcastic, sadly. Some of the comments made by a moderator recently do seem as if they view themselves as a parent and the rest of us as children who need to be controlled.
:crazy2:

I wonder if the powers that be simply aren't here and that's why this thread has been allowed to go on? I really expected this to be locked at the very least.

If those PTB have seen this, it would be nice to have the new rules explained. Is mild sarcasm or anything that could be perceived as negative banned now? Also, is any outright criticism of Disney banned too?

Or they are just letting us voice our frustration in a contained place. Get it out of our system so to speak. ;)

Possible. :) Except I don't think that these posters are going to just drop it. There's a lot of frustration in this thread.

That's just how I read some of the comments - may not be interpreting the intent correctly.

I have to say that the job of a moderator can't be easy - just look at this thread where people had completely different views about the way a past thread went. No way are they going to make everyone happy (and, really, making everyone happy isn't really their intent), but it does feel like things have changed recently. I guess people either get used to the "new normal" (though hopefully this could be explicitly stated) or they find somewhere else for the Disney fix.

and this is what I am finding odd about the many closed threads and posted warnings as of late. I do not see that they violate ANY of these rules.

I can only assume, based on what little was said, that forming an opinion that disagrees with the OP and stating it, no matter how nicely, and/or forming such an opinion partly based on knowledge from other threads, and expressing how that influences your opinion is now considered a "personal attack" which I really hope does not end up being the case long term because it squashes any serious discussion.

I have always thought "personal attack" meant things like calling someone names and the like, not disagreeing and stating why, or pointing out a pattern of behaviour, etc.

I once got "personal attack" points for telling someone that green sharpie is impossible to remove from clothing. I wasn't rude, I was just matter-of-factly stating that while other colors can be removed, green cannot.

You haven't gotten in trouble for something in a PM, have you? That would just be wrong.
It's not the PM's that I worry about, but a fellow Diser was banned and if we hadn't exchanged e-mail addresses I wouldn't have known what happened.

 What do you mean you can't see your points? In that case, how would someone know that they received them, and what types of things they need to avoid posting in the future? I'm so confused about how all this works. Lol.
There is no where to see points on the new board.
