Increase in threads getting locked/deleted?

I got points recently for a "minor personal attack" simply because i referred to an OP's most recent post, and it didn't tell me when they expired. I was told that it was not nice to direct quote something that another had said previously on a different thread. And then it went on and talked about how "Mom" was monitoring the children on the DIS and fighting wouldn't be tolerated by any of the children, regardless of "who started it". I was accused of being sarcastic, which was ironic because it was one of the times where I wasn't at all. I was simply offering what I thought was pretty good advice. I thought it was funny that I'm 49 years old and was chastised on a Disney forum!
Could you see your points on your personal page or see when they expire? I think I can safely say No and No.

I've never really cared for that website. Betterbidding is far better with a lot more people posting their prices. However, the main mod in betterbidding is a bit rude to those who don't follow protocol or use the links from the website to bid. Once ones understands the rules though, the place is a wealth of information and has saved me a lot of $$.
Yeah, I've noticed that BB has more rules, but it's hard to help someone if they don't give enough information. As for the links, that's how they get paid. Sheryl would ban people for not using her links.

If we're getting points now for being sarcastic, I think we're all screwed.
BTDT.

I once got "personal attack" points for telling someone that green sharpie is impossible to remove from clothing. I wasn't rude, I was just matter-of-factly stating that while other colors can be removed, green cannot.
that is just weirder than weird, wow.

For clarification, from the DISboards Guidelines:

There may be times where a situation develops that is not covered in our infraction system. For those cases we reserve the right to take whatever action is needed in order to ensure that our guidelines are followed.

http://www.disboards.com/help/guidelines/

In other words, they can ban anybody for any reason whenever the whim strikes them.

I was a member here about 5 years ago, and recently rejoined. It seemed to be nastier here back then.

Exactly. The board change was done in true DIS fashion and that is just one of several features that they have no idea how to work. On the old boards your points and their details were listed at the top of the user console - now there is nothing...

There appears to be a new female moderator on this board that deletes anything she sees as "negative". Definitely makes me not want to post, and I very rarely do post.

And that description doesn't even really fit because other threads like the pool party one that get kind of nasty are allowed to continue. Seems like that mod is just particular in what they deem appropriate.

Yep, comments like

"I was extremely worried that Queen Elsa would rise up yet again, and potentially cause some problems as it related to travel.
That woman SERIOUSLY needs a date, or at least a stronger shower head.
Just sayin'"

make it through without a problem.

WHAT?? That is on the DIS and not being locked or deleted? That is just, wow, "inappropriate" I guess would be the word.

Sexual references to Disney characters is OK; but real and well handled discussions about serious topics which relate to sex (like the Duggar thread closed a few weeks ago and many others) are not. That just seems so backwards as to how it should be: reasonable discussions of real issues that might help someone should be encouraged, IMO.

It doesn't help that some posters feel very thin skinned. If you can't handle opinions that do not match your own, get off a discussion board.
So true. There was a crazy dude a few weeks ago who kept making new accounts to troll people who didn't agree with him and I guess I happened to be one of them. Which is kinda amusing. I kinda miss him.
:rotfl:

Actually, that thread was deleted. But only after a number of people, including myself, posted regarding some other questionable content on that thread.

Not sure it was supposed to be sarcastic, sadly. Some of the comments made by a moderator recently do seem as if they view themselves as a parent and the rest of us as children who need to be controlled.

I know there are a few younger people on this site, but for the most part we are all adults. I too have read some condescending posts from the mods that IMHO really had no merit. Why we cannot have differences of opinions and discussions that show opposing sides is asinine. After all if we were all vanilla it would be a very boring world.

Seriously? Wow.
Yea I got a message about "mom" too and not to turn into a "Donald duck." lol

"While we'd like to think that a Disney fan site is always lighthearted, there are times when there are disagreements. Let's face it, there are certain topics that can transform any of us into a raging "Donald Duck." When you sense this is happening, we ask that you step away from the discussion before it escalates into a fight. Just like Mom always said about fighting, we don't care who started the argument and we don't want it on the DIS. (Okay, she didn't say the part about the DIS, but you know what we mean.) No attacking others and no sarcasm please. Either will result in an infraction."

How does one live without sarcasm!? I also asked what I did cause I didn't know which post and the mod told me I inferred without naming. So to me that means you can be pointed for pretty much any statement you make if the mod doesn't like it since anything could be seen as sarcastic or "inferring."

That's what I find to be the ridiculous part of the whole moderator thing. We are supposed to be respectful of each other on these boards, but some of the moderators can be mean spirited, condescending, and rude to posters. Is this a," do as I say and not as I do" type of situation?

On the other hand , some of the moderators have been very nice and polite. I don't want to paint them all with the same brush.

OMG, that is so wrong in so many ways. You were trying to tell them useful information.

And my mental note for the day ... don't mess with the green sharpie. Unlike the green M&M, she don't play!!

Your quote is a direct copy and paste of rule 4 of the guidelines, so it wasn't even written by the mod who sent it to you.

I hope I don't get sent to my room without dinner. It's pizza today, and I love mum's pizza :(

Very true! I should have clarified my opinion was only directed at a few posts I have read that I felt were condescending. In no way was it meant to lump all mods in that category.

And if no one reads a post from me again, I've been banned. :scared:
