Increase in threads getting locked/deleted?

Is it just me, or have you noticed an uptick in the number of threads getting locked or deleted in the past month or so on this board?

Yes, and I almost started a thread similar to this a few weeks ago after FIVE threads that I was participating on were closed/vanished over the course of two days. Instead, I've just backed off the DISboards some and spend more of my time elsewhere. This forum has become a little too frustrating for me.

Maybe I've just been attracted to reading the more animated or lively threads, but it seems like threads I wouldn't normally expect to disappear in the past are now disappearing.

Yep and it's getting annoying. It seems like anytime anyone remotely disagrees in the least then it's locked or gone.

Compared to the threads I remember reading from 2010 or 2011 the threads these days are unbelievably nice and mellow in nature.

To me they seem to be closing a little sooner then they might have. I think they'd be closed anyway but they're being closed when it looks like they *might* get out of hand verses already way over the top out of hand. The ones that bug me are the ones that vanish into thin air, just doesn't feel right for whatever reason.

Those we the days you'd log on and go right to the locked threads. Insanely entertaining.

I think the moderation is a lot more heavy handed than it used to be. I seem to remember a time where they would go through threads and clean up posts that were in violation of the rules. Now, the entire conversation gets shut down the second anything seems to be on the verge of possibly going south.

I think all the thread closing and reporting causes people to be more vague and passive aggressive in their posts too. Which I'd rather people were allowed to just be transparent and say what they think. But you can't without getting points or having the threat that the thread will close...

I hope this isn't a sign of things to come because this place will become very boring. Just because people disagree or state opinions (in maybe a way others don't like) doesn't warrant shutdown. Sometimes there is good information buried in there, or as it often does the thread will take a turn and morph into something else that becomes useful and interesting. I mean we are all adults, right?

Seems like they are concentrating on "family friendly entertainment" here on the DIS. It does certainly seem to be changing.

I've noticed it happening quite a bit with posts started by certain people. They ask a question, get a response that yet again they don't like, accuse everyone that disagrees with them of being big meanies, and then bam the thread is locked or gone.

I've noticed a shift in what threads get locked, not so much how many.

I can't say either way but I believe a community manager has been hired and their full-time job is keeping an eye on the boards. I have seen this posted on a couple of threads. That could be the reason.
